For me, it all comes back to Clark. Is what is happening on my screen enhancing Clark’s journey? If the answer to that question is “Yes” then I am happy. I think a lot of the relationships on the show (both romantic and platonic) provide incredible character growth and so I’m in favor of them and I think they are worth discussing. I think Clark’s relationship with Lois has provided a lot of character growth for him both last season and this season so again, I like it. And I think that’s realistic because I’ve known tons of people throughout my life who have grown and matured as people when they found their future spouse. So I like that. I’m a Superman fan first and foremost so I’m always interested in what is moving Clark forward.

The key is that it’s fine to have a favorite person that you support on the show. But at the end of the day this is a Superman story and if your obsession with one character is influencing your entire opinion of the show and the plot….then you can’t be credible anymore with your criticism because you’ve lost sight of what the show is supposed to be about. That’s just my opinion though! Thanks for the support.

Loved the Dr. Fate/Kal-El scenes, loved the call back to the vision in Season Three “Here-after” I know Derek and Steve I know you have been complaining that seen Season Six when J’onn J’onzz showed up we never got to see him in his true form… “Geekwood” that moment.

I have said it before several times on the website. In regards to Lex Luthor. I think it would be more likely to hear Rosenbaum voice on the series again before we actually see him.

Lastly, Geoff Johns if there is a Season Ten… Please do another episode!

Anyway..I didn’t bring it up to start a war so please please I hope that no one takes that away from this. I brought it up because I can tell that it still bothers Steve a bit that these people are calling him names and I just want him to know that he has PLENTY of true fans of this show who support him 100% and that we KNOW how much he loves this show and its characters. We KNOW taht he loves Chloe. He doesn’t need to defend himself anymore and I think from now on his best bet is just to ignore it.

Anyway I had a thought, what if it isn’t the colour of the sun that’s important but one of the different radiation frequencies or something, so the sun going from yellow to red isn’t the important part its what type of radiation thats being blocked?

At first I didn’t enjoy Disciple as much as I thought I was going to but on reflection I have to agree with Kathleen it probably got lost for me between Pandora and the 2 hour event. I have to say though I think all in all it wasn’t bad at all, Justin was awesome but as an Ollie fan I would say that. :D I would have loved to have seen more of Steve Bacic who I think got lost amongst everything but I guess you can’t have everything.

One thing I have to say though as one of your long time listeners and I really hope you take this to heart…

Steve, I know it’s really difficult but you need to stop taking it so personally when some of this small group of so called “fans” (and I put that in quotes because I don’t believe that these people are actually true fans of the show or Allison Mack at all) attack you about Chloe. ANYONE who actually listens to your show knows that you guys support this entire cast and that you love Chloe. You do not need to defend yourself against that. You have been very clear about the fact that you love Chloe and no one that actually listens to your podcasts could think otherwise. You need to understand something….these people are angry and consider you to be against them BECAUSE you also like Lois and Erica Durance. That’s it. It doesn’t matter that you love Chloe. It won’t matter how many times you remind them that you love Chloe. You like Lois which means that you are the enemy and you must be against them. They can’t comprehend that there are those of us that really love and support this entire ensemble. It doesn’t matter how many times you make logical arguments or talk about why you feel a certain way. These “fans” are so deluded that they can’t even look at the show objectively anymore. They hate Erica…and they hate Tom now too. All they’ve done is criticize him this entire year saying how terrible he is and how all he cares about is money. These crazies (And yes, I do believe that anyone who acts that nasty about a fictional character is crazy) don’t like ANYONE who likes Erica and they take pleasure in treating Erica like shit. (Erica recently did a really nice interview with TVguide and within 5 minutes there were tons of posts calling her as an actress personal and nasty names. It got so bad that the website mods had to clear some of it. Do you understand?)

I know it’s really hard not to respond to this kind of thing time and again because you guys work so hard and so I imagine it’s really insulting when people try and twist your words and attack you. I totally understand and I absolutely understand why you feel the need to clarify your feelings and defend yourself. But I think you need to try and let it go and just ignore it from now on. I love this entire cast and that includes Chloe. I consider myself a fan of everyone on this show. But I do NOT associate with those people. Because the bottom line is that anyone who is capable of being so nasty is NOT a true fan of this show and is absolutely NOT a fan of Allison Mack. And I defy anyone who calls themselves a fan of Allison Mack to justify their disgusting behavior. A true fan would NEVER act like that.

Anyway…sorry for the sidebar but I couldn’t help but comment after listening to you address this again on your live podcast after the event. I know you are just trying to clear the air but you dont have to. Your true fans KNOW where your feelings lie about this. We know that you love and support this entire cast and that you support Allison. And personally, I really appreciate it that you have gone to bat for Erica so many times. She deserves it after how she’s been treated. My advice would be to ignore the rest of it from now on. You’re better than them and they don’t deserve your attention.

In regards to what DC characters I would like to see Geoff tackle next, I would love to see Teen Titans or Young Justice as far as teams go. Individual characters, I wouldn’t mind seeing some other JSA members like Power Girl (I know, Earth 2), Huntress, Red Tornado, or Captain Marvel (Shazam) even it was just as Billy Batson.

Great podcast. Wish I could have seen it LIVE but I’m so glad that you guys got such a great turnout. That’s awesome.

I cracked up at Steve in the Snuggie. I love that Steve embraces his inner geekiness. I can think of a few geeks that I know that would love that Superman snuggie. haha. Steve, as soon as I saw the picture of Erica Durance dressed as the stormtrooper I thought of you. Lois is made of win. Who wouldn’t love that girl?

I agree with a lot of what you said so I’m just gonna post a few responses to some of the things that I disagree with a bit.

Per your discussion about “filler” episodes….maybe it’s the English background in me but as long as an episode has character development and moves the internal feelings and emotions of our core characters forward then I don’t really consider any episode to be “filler.” Some of the BEST character development in this series has taken place during episodes that are not heavy on action or special effects. So I sort of take issue with the phrase “filler” because without those filler episodes our characters wouldn’t be nearly as strong.

It’s the same way I feel about relationships on this show and it’s why I HATE HATE with a passion the idea that anyone who really likes relationships on this show must be a “shipper.” Yes, there are some fans whose sole reason for watching the show is because of the relationships . But then there are fans like myself who LOVE the relationships because I’m a huge Superman fan and to me, it’s the relationships that Clark has with the people around him that make his journey worth it. They give him something to live for and something to fight for. And I think that was a real THEME of ABsolute Justice. Clark’s convo with Hawkman at the end and all of the talk about family and wives and knowing what really matters and who you are fighting for. So, for me, I appreciate when we really get attention paid to what makes Clark the man he is and why he loves the people he loves.

Just for the record…I don’t think there will be wedding to end this show. I wouldn’t mind seeing a proposal though. For me it’s less about a wedding and more about the audience knowing that Clark will not be alone. That has been a major theme of this show since day #1 and clark’s biggest fear. As long as the show tells me as the viewer that Clark KNOWS he won’t be alone and that he’ll have her with him and they will be together for the rest of their lives….then I’ll consider that satisfactory. I don’t need to see a wedding. I just need to know that Clark is going to be happy and that Lois will be with him forever because this show has been hinting at that since the first episode….that he doesn’t want to be alone.

Must admit that it would be a great final foe for Smallville to end upon. If that or Lex Luthor returning.

I also loved the mention of “Super Friends” by Oliver and “Trouble Alert” by Chloe! Nice nod to the Saturday morning cartoon!

Not sure why there’s a debate out there as to whether Lex is alive. We all know he can’t be dead, that he still has to fulfill his destiny as Superman’s arch enemy. The question is if and when Michael Rosenbaum will reprise the role.

Daniel, do you know if the mother/daughter Black Canary storyline will be addressed in a future episode? I hope so and that its not swept under the rug.

There’s probably more I want to say, but I can’t think right now. My head is spinning (in a good way) from this movie! Like Daniel, I’m thankful for DVR. I look forward to watching it again and again.

The main things I was excited to see was the return of Martian Manhunter’s powers (not to mention, finally seeing his true form), Dr. Fate’s “vision” of the cape, and the hint of possibly more Lex. Other than that, I felt like it was a lot of effort just to push the story forward just a few steps.

That was one way to express my enjoyment in watching Absolute Justice. I’ll admit that I was a little worried that the episode(s) wouldn’t live up to the hype that it had been getting and I’m glad to say that it did and thensome.

I know very little to the history of the Justice Society but with Geoff Johns writing both episodes I knew that it would be as close to it as possible. Legion is evidence of that.

There are too many things to list but I’ll do my best. All the characters were different and the interaction between them. My favorites being the ones involving Clark/Dr. Fate, Oliver/Hawkman and Waller/Icicle. The times where both teams was impactful and showed how the old and new generation of heroes thought. Hopeuflly we’ll see them interacting with one another and if so, have more members of each team involved.

Touching upon the possibility of Lex Luthor beinga live was a nice move. Keeps the threat of that actually being the case alive. Would be nice to see Lex return and it being Michael Rosenbaum.

The ending was another thing I liked since it leaves the opening of Checkmate and/or Suicide Squad returning later on. Also, when Waller said that she wants to have the old/new heroes ready for the apocalypse, I thought it could be a possible foreshadowing of the actual Apocalypse character appearing in Smallville. That would surely be a good way to end the series.

As for my rating, I obviously going to give it a 5 out of a 5. There were some things here and there that bothered me but nothing that I wouldn’t complain.

I liked Disciple, but it sounds like they didn’t do a good enough job of fleshing out Merlyn, beginning with calling him Vortigan. I don’t get why they couldn’t use the name, especially since the people who care (comic fans) know who he’s supposed to be, so what’s the point?

Yay, I can join in this one since I was over in London for the last live event. EEEEE!!!!

Even though Ollie ’s backstory was at the forefront of this episode, in my opinion, Clark was really the “star” of this episode. As it should be! He showed so much range and so many different emotions throughout the episode.

In the opening scene, we saw Clark relaxed and happy and in love. It was so refreshing and wonderful to see. His cute lines to Lois about “showing her his tour of the galaxy” were awesome in part because it’s so great to see Clark enjoying his life . As a long time fan of this show, it makes me smile to get a glimpse into Clark’s future with the woman who will be his wife. I love what the writers have done with this relationship and I can’t wait to see it develop further.

We saw Clark stick up for Ollie and defend him from accusations that he might have had some kind of mental breakdown. Clark believed in Oliver and he showed up to protect him when it counted at the end.

Clark responded completely appropriately to Chloe’s confession taht she orchestrated the situation between Oliver and Victoria back in “Roulette.” Although Chloe’s intentions were good, her methods were questionable and Clark had every right to remind her that she was in the wrong. It was refreshing to see him grow a back bone and stand up for himself. Chloe’s arc has been very interesting this season but let’s face it…she’s made some mistakes. Clark isn’t the doormat that he was back in earlier seasons and he shouldn’t be expected to role over and just let his friends walk all over him. He said what needed to be said and still expressed concern that Chloe was spending so much time “behind a lens.”

And Clark and Zod? WOW. WOW. First off, the first scene at the farm showed incredible restraint on Clark’s part. You could tell that this guy is using his brain. He is keeping his friends close and his enemies closer. Clark knows what Zod is capable of. He has seen first hand through Lois’ memories of the future how dangerous this guy is. He’s going to try and convince Zod to give up on this idea that they need powers and instead help the Kandorians to try and assimilate into society. But he kept his cool in the first scene.

In the last scene at the Ace of Clubs, you could see the momentary panic on Clark’s face when he realized that Zod had tried to send him a message by visiting Lois in the hospital.

Clark’s last scene with Zod was so mythos Superman. He did what he had to do to make sure Zod understood that he meant business. All season now Clark has been showing is glimpses of different sides to his Superman persona. In “Echo” we saw him with extreme authority when he scolded that hostage that Lois was interviewing. In “Idol” he took on a gentler tone when he spoke to the Wonder Twins and inpsired them to follow in his footsteps. in this episode, he reminded Zod (and the audience) that he while he may be kind and compassionate and forgiving….he is not some weakling that is going to roll over and let you screw with the person he loves. Superman has always been willing to do whatever it takes to protect Lois and our Clark Kent is no different at this point.

“You go near Lois again and I will destroy you all.” Very Superman and he meant business.

Steve has been saying all season that Clark has been sounding more and more like Jonathan. You know….that is something that Jonathan would have said back in the day and in fact I think it IS something that he said in the Season 2 premiere ” Vortex.” Jonathan became extremely angry when Roger Nixon was threatening his loved ones. He threatened Nixon in a similar fashion to Clark’s words to Zod. Very interesting.

I really hope Steve goes into some of this awesome development on Clark’s part in the podcast!!!

But then there are times he isn’t, which made “You go near Lois again, I’ll destroy you all” so much more awesome.

Loved the Ollie and Mia scenes and how about Ollie’s new loft. I’m just going to call it “The Arrow Cave.” Really liked the look of the place and the design of it.

I was hoping that The Dark Archer story-line would have gotten some more screen time than it did. But we all know how it is with DC Comics guest stars on the series, they always leave the door open for returns.

I have to concur with Mr. Spencer while watching this episode, it did feel like the calm before the storm before “Society/Legends” next week especially with the Zod scene at the end of the episode, because we may not seen Zod for another two weeks or so, because of how he is building his red twin towers of doom. Clark’s a gentleman but frankly I think he’s probably a little eager. Lois is hot. (Seriously how gorgeous did Erica D. look last night??) And Clark still has Lois’ memories of the future of the two of them having hot naked sex. I don’t think he would ever disrespect her or force her into anything she wasn’t comfortable with. I think he was just hoping that maybe she’d be comfortable making out for a while….haha. God, I love Clark. He’s so damn funny.

I enjoyed the episode more than I thought I would with it being Ollie-centric. Not that I didn’t enjoy Roulette, but it was the weakest of the S9 episodes thus far. Anyway, Clark and Lois were great, I want to put Mia in my pocket, she’s so adorable, and Zod was sufficiently creepy in his scene with Lois. Plus, besides the Clois stuff, Clark told Chloe a little bit about herself, which was long overdue, and it didn’t get recanted at the end with them praising her as a hero or some other bs. There will be fallout from her spying and prying, right? RIGHT?!!!

But yeah, I would sign up in a second for Clark Kent’s tour of the galaxy. I’ll bet it’s a really really good tour. ;)

I thought it was a great episode. As with most Smallville episodes, there was a lot to take in and I’m gonna have to watch it again.

I liked the stuff with Ollie, the Dark Archer and Mia. I like that Mia actually seems like a teenager and you can tell that she relies on Ollie to be a mentor in her life and yet at the same time she’s there to keep him in check sort of like Batman and Robin. That was great.

I liked seeing Clark address Chloe’s behavior as of late. I am really hoping that the producers delve into Chloe’s darkness in the second half of the season and don’t just gloss over it and have her be a hero again without ever taking responsibility for what she’s done. I LIKE Chloe and this stuff makes her interesting. The rift between Clark and Chloe is believable to me at this point. They have gone in different directions and Chloe seems to keep pulling away to do her own thing. I liked Clark saying that he does what’s RIGHT vs. Chloe having a more “ends justify the means” approach. Good stuff.

Clark and Lois are a GREAT couple. They actually seem like a couple that is slowly discovering their feelings. It’s a huge change from Clark and Lana who barely even seemed like a couple even when they were living together. The opening scene was very sexy and cute and it’s nice to see Clark be so bold going after a woman for a change. I like this change in him. Lois seems a bit nervous and she seems to be the one putting the brakes on the relationship. Clark tried to get her to go back to the farm to make ou and she turned him down. haha.

I think Ollie’s feelings for Lois were handled well. It makes sense that he would still be feeling a bit of pain over seeing Clark and Lois together. He’ll get over her eventually but I’m glad they aren’t light switching it.

Zod was chilling last night. Super creepy. I loved how strong Clark was with him. The last scene was really really good.

Clark threatening Zod at the end over Lois is something very true to Superman canon. That is NOT out of character for Clark. In the comics and on LnC, there are plenty of times where Clark lets his anger get the better of him and he threatens harm to someone if they go after Lois to let them know that she’s off limits.

Overall, a great episode.

Clark Kent, farm boy, AKA “The Blur”:attempting to get to second base in 2010.

The scenes between Clark and Zod were some of my favorites. I don’t know how to really explain it but how they interacted with one another reminded me of the times that Clark and Lex did, specifically during late season five and onward. Am I the only one who had that feeling?

How the relationship between Clark and Lois was another thing I liked since they’re not jamming it down our throats as the Clark and Lana felt more than once. I’m fine with them going like they are and interested to see how it progresses.

As for the parts involving Oliver, I enjoyed it as well as their was some revealing how he learned his skills and the continual development between Oliver and Mia. The moment where Mia giving advice to him at the end was a nice touch.

Overall, I give this episode a 4 out 5. Now with it out of way, it’s time to prepare for “Absolute Justice”. Can’t wait to see how that turns out.

I thought it was a solid episode. I’m always a bit “eh” on episodes where Clark is low on screentime. I love Oliver but I like to see him in a supporting role vs. as the central character. But it was solid for an Ollie centric story.

Clark and Lois are ridiculously cute. Clark totally tried to make a pass at her tonight and she side stepped him.

Who is this Clark Kent and can we keep him please??? Openly hitting on Lois….calling Chloe out on her shady behavior and standing his ground with Zod? Is this a pod Clark? Cause God he was awesome tonight.

Now as for the actual topic, I’ve liked all of the trailers that have been done for Absolute Justice and you can just add this to the list. Can’t wait when the two hour Smallville event comes but I really hope that it lives up to all of the hype that it’s been getting.

That was THE best trailer for Smallville in the history of the series, in my opinion. Feb. 5th can’t get here fast enough.

Erica is my favorite version of Lois Lane as well. I find her portrayl to be so complicated and three dimensional in a way that I’ve never seen before. Actually, I think that this is the most complicated version of Lois AND of Clark both individually and as a couple that we’ve ever had. The characters were well fleshed out on “Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” but they weren’t as complex. Dean Cain’s Clark was an amazing guy and he did a beautiful job as Steve said of showing us what it meant to be mild-mannered: it didn’t mean weak. He showed us a likable Clark Kent that could be polite but also be the kind of man that Lois could love. But he was also fairly perfect in a lot of respects. Tom Welling’s version of Clark has had failures. We’ve seen him screw up. I feel like I root for Tom Welling’s Clark Kent in such an emotional way because we’ve watched him have so many hardships and screw ups and yet we know his heart is in the right place. Steve and Jen, I think you were right that there are going to be tears when the show ends. I know I’ll cry when I finally see Clark fly and put on the suit because I feel like he has tried so hard to reach this point and you root for him to get there. In a similar way, I felt emotional when he FINALLY woke the hell up and kissed Lois in “Crossfire” because I feel like the audience could see that Lois was the one for him and that they belonged together and you were rooting for him to have the courage to be with this woman that he clearly had feelings for.

Erica’s Lois is super complex as well. I have loved almost every version of Lois LAne. (Kate Bosworth’s was my least favorite but I still didn’t hate her.) Steve, I don’t really think that Margot’s Lois was a bitch. I think she just wasn’t as complex as Erica’s Lois. We only got to see her open up and be vulnerable with Superman and let’s face it….it’s much more interesting to see her open up and be vulnerable with Clark Kent. I really liked Teri Hatcher’s Lois BUT there were times when she was almost overly vulnerable. I also didn’t like the way she swooned over Superman for so long while being so cruel to Clark. That just seems too Silver Age at this point. On Smallville, Clark and Lois’ initial annoyance with each other makes sense. They both saw each other as a threat and reacted accordingly but pretending they didn’t like each other. But I liked that on Smallville we saw Lois waking up to her feelings for Clark as opposed to swooning over a caped superhero and then dismissing him. But Erica’s Lois is absolutely the most complex and interesting version of Lois Land ever and that’s why she’s my favorite and it’s also why this version of Clark and Lois as a couple is my fave.

(P.S. I’m going to have to agree with Steve about Friends Season 9. While it’s not the same quality as the earlier seasons, it had some funny moments in the beginning of the season when Rachel and Ross first had their baby and with Chandler moving to Tulsa AKA “the Paris of Oklahoma.” LOL.)

Tom and Erica have redefined Clark and Lois. They ARE Clark and Lois now and every incarnation to come is going to have look at what they’ve created and take it into consideration. They are just that good. I just can’t imagine anyone else playing Clark or Lois at this point. I don’t want to SEE anyone else as Clark and Lois. Smallville has spoiled me for all time. Every time I read a Superman comic I want to picture Tom and Erica.

Jen, you have good taste in men.

Jen was great. She’s a fangirl after my own heart (well minus Twilight) but so great to hear another gal geeking out over Star Wars.

I agree that Erica Durance is the best Lois Lane. For me she is my definitive Lois Lane but I also agree about Dana Delaney, Big Honkin’. Dana is my number two Lois. As with Tom, all future Superman writings will have to take Erica’s Lois into consideration because Erica and the writers have created such a rich, deeply layered, three dimensional character and anything less will be lacking.

Heee, definitely have BAG drop some hints in Tom’s ear about coming on SHoE. I mean BAG was a huge reason why Tom went to Comic Con this year, so I think he could convince Tom to come on SHoE.

I am all behind Jen is Lois campaign. Take that TWOP :P.

Again, great podcast and can’t wait for the face-off between Derek and Craig. I am on Team Derek.

Now, as for the actual episode. The pairing of Steve and Jen was nice. How Jen continually went back in mentioning her crush on Tom was some funny moments and Steve using the echoing effect made it even funnier. Hopefully the two of them will do another episode in the future.

Again, this was a great episode to listen to and can’t wait to hear the next one, whenever that might be.

A few quick things….let’s start with the shallow stuff…

Tom Welling is 32 going on 33. He’s not 29. :) But Jen is right…he gets better looking with each passing year. It’s incredible. Honestly I find him so attractive that it’s sometimes distracting. I’ll be watching the show and I’ll be totally into the plot and then I’ll just start looking at Clark and I go into a daze and I’m like, “Holy Shit that man is hot.” And then I snap out of it and realize I missed 3 minutes of screentime. So Steve, don’t feel bad about your man crush. He’s awesome. But I agree with Jen that I wouldn’t be able to work with him. I’d either faint or attack him. And he’s the best Clark Kent ever.

I totally share in Jen’s sentiments about Erica as Lois. She is the best Lois Lane ever as far as I’m concerned. (Although Steve I also like Lois from the animated series. She was cool.) Erica’s Lois rocks my socks off. I find her completely adorable and I think that Clark and Lois have the cutest relationship ever on Smallville. I totally get WHY Clark is in love with her whereas in previous incarnations of Superman we never really got to see WHY. Clark just showed up and fell in love with Lois right away and we never really understand why she was the girl for him. What I love about Smallville’s version of Clark and Lois is that we get to see WHY this is the woman for him. I watch Lois and then I see the changes that she brings out in Clark and how well they play off each other…then you add in the incredible heat betwen them and I totally get it. They are so awesome together. And yes Jen…the rain scene killed me too.

Lastly, I am in TOTAL agreement about the Clark/Oliver friendship. They have a nice little bromance going. haha. I think Oliver has a real respect for Clark and I think we are really seeing that Oliver views Clark as a leader in a way that he didn’t several years ago. I’m happy to see Clark have a another man in his life. He needs some male influence.

And I really think they should just make Perry White the Chief at the Planet. It took them 6 years to get him back, nows the time to set it up, even if he is purely an off-screen character for the duration of the series.

It is troubling, however, that the producers pulled out the stops here. Perhaps this is really a series finale?

I’ve been hoping to see both the Martha and Perry characters return to Smallville, even if it’s for one episode (that I know of).

Out of the two I’m looking more forward to Martha’s return since it’s something that shoudlv’e been done since mid season 7. That’s not to say I’m not eager to see McKean as well since I enjoyed his appearance in the 2nd season episode “Perry”.

Hopefully we’ll see them come back in future episodes if Smallville is given a season 10. I’m probably not the only ones who feel the same.

Smallville is making me so happy this season…

As for Martha, I was overjoyed with her return. It’s been too long and I’ve missed her motherly presence on the show. I hope we get a great Martha/Clark talk as well.

Overall, I’m kind of with Professor Bailey on Secret Origins. I’m not overly impressed. It just seems like a rehash and a step back for Clark in terms of his relatability and modern appeal.
