What a wonderful time to be a Smallville fan. After EW’s little “nail in the coffin” article earlier this week claiming that since no news had come out about Rosenbaum returning, it was pretty much time to give up hope, hope came to us – TVLine’s Ausiello announced that Rosenbaum (who simultaneously tweeted this news) will be returning as Lex Luthor for the series finale of Smallville, airing May 13th, 2011. This puts to rest the age old discussion of will he/won’t he that fans have been clamoring over since it was announced that season 10 will be the last for the show. Not only that, but Greg Beeman announced on his blog last night that he will be directing the second half of the two hour finale; something that myself and I know other Smallville fans are glad to hear, as Beeman is one director who has a passion for the series and was a part of it for many years. (Beeman last directed the ninth season finale, ‘Salvation’)
All this news comes off the heels that The CW announced earlier in the week that the series finale will, indeed, be a two hour event on Friday, May 13th; bringing the episode total for the final season to 21 episodes, but 22 hours. No word yet if Allison Mack will definitely be returning for the series finale yet or not. Currently, the last episode she will be appearing in is 10×15 – ‘Fortune’. Also, last season’s Zod (Callum Blue) and Kara (Laura Vandervoort) will be returning for an episode before the end. Expect to see Zod in 10×19 – ‘Dominion’ or 10×20 – ‘Prophecy’. Only 8 episodes remain in the final season of Smallville.

After nearly two months of no new episodes, Smallville is back with the 12th episode of the final season, ‘Collateral’. Damian and Derek kick off the first batch of new episodes with a full recap, plus talk of NBC’s pilot for a new Wonder Woman series, and discussion of the new Superman reboot from director Zack Snyder – plus, hints at where to find Damian and Derek post-SHoE? All this and more inside! Please note this episode was recorded before late breaking news of Smallville’s series finale.

CHLOE SULLIVAN RETURNS TO SMALLVILLE — Clark, Oliver, Lois and Dinah (guest star Alaina Huffman) are released by the VRA after being captured at Hawkman’s funeral but each of them have flashbacks of Chloe holding them against their will. After a long hiatus, Smallville returns tonight, featuring the return of Chloe Sullivan! After it’s over with, come back here to discuss while you wait for the release of the next new episode of SHoE!

News broke yesterday that “The Tudors” actor Henry Cavill will play the Man of Steel in Zack Snyder’s 2012 film “Superman”. We assume it will most likely be called “Superman” as no film has been called that before (1978 film is actually called Superman: The Movie) and since the working title of “The Man of Steel” was debunked ages ago and is now neither working/nor official, we can assume for now at least that the film will be called “Superman” until there is OFFICIAL word.
Cavill, 27, was actually a choice for the role of Superman prior to Brandon Routh being chosen when it came time for Superman Returns in 2006.
This got us thinking. We shared some thoughts on our “Icarus” episode about who our top picks for casting were, but Cavill’s age is sort of a game-changer that sets the tone for the rest of the cast. One of our big picks for Jimmy Olsen was Joseph Gordon-Levitt but seeing as how he’s 2 years older than Cavill, it doesn’t make for a great cast.
So where does that leave our picks? Find out after the jump.

Steve Glosson returns to Starkville’s House of El along with Derek Russell to cover the entire first half of the final season of Smallville. There’s a lot to discuss in those first eleven episodes from Lazarus to Icarus, that will shape what is to come when Smallville returns next Friday. Note: there are no spoilers at the end of this episode, however you may want to stick around after the music for some laughs.

An oldie but a goodie! Steve and Derek bring you a full length running commentary from 2009 of Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. Since we never got to release it via SHoE we thought it was a good a time as any since Smallville has been delayed a week. Enjoy!
