I thought it might be fun to quickly spotlight a few characters of interest during the hiatus until “Disciple”. Here are some notable characters from film, TV, and comics. These are exclusive to everyone’s favorite villain Lex Luthor, or in Smallville’s case people connected to his legacy since he’s DEAD. He is dead right?

It seems like it’s been an eternity since we have had a new episode of Smallvile. Well in a few short weeks we will have a new episode to get us excited about the second half of season 9. The CW has released an official description for the mid-season premier “Disciple” , and Speedy fans can rejoice because Mia will be returning to the cast for this episode.

Here we are again with a SHoE File of epic proportions. General Zod has been a character in the DC Universe for a very long time dating back to the the early 1960’s. While he wasn’t used very much in the beginning, Zod has become one of Superman’s most formidable adversaries over the years and as of late even an ally in the comics. The character and look of Zod is most defined by Superman I & II. Those movies are really what gave Zod the exposure to make him a mainstream character. His famous line “Kneel before Zod” has definitely become a part of pop culture. Smallville has had a few different incarnations of Zod inorevious seasons, but season 9 has given us the corporeal form of the character on the show. Let’s get into this character and see what his history is.

Brian Peterson recently had an interview with TV Guide writer and SHoE guest host Damian Holbrook to discuss the direction of the remainder of season 9 and the possibilities of a season 10. While the interview was filled with tasty morsels of Smallville news, there is nothing here that I feel would spoil you for the rest of the season. If you are interested to know about Zod, Absolute Justice, or if we will see Clark will fly just click the link for the summarized interview.

In a very highly anticipated episode, The WonderTwins Zan and Jayna come to Smallville and judging by the responses they were very well received. The only consistent complaint there they were not in the episode enough, which I agree with. Although I don’t know what I would have cut to make room for more WT scenes. The characters of Zan & Jayna are known mostly in pop-culture because of their role on The All-New Super Friends Hour which debuted on tv September of 1977. The cartoon show took on many different names over the years, but the formula for the show was essentially the same. The Justice League fights bad guys. (Remember this was the late 70’s and early 80’s , not the most complex of story lines)

That’s right everyone, Geoff Johns’ epic project that started with ‘Society’, then became a two part episode with ‘Legends’, and most recently, a full blown 2 hour movie event has an official name. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that the movie will be titled ‘Absolute Justice’ and will air on February 5 instead of January 29. EW is also reporting that the movie will only feature one set of credits, as not to interrupt the flow of the event. The main reason for the name change appears to be for marketing reasons, but I think it might be a good idea as it helps to solidify the fact that these episodes have been combined into a movie.

Fans have been clammoring for another extended episode of Smallville since May 2004, and in a few short months, that time will come. Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello reported this morning that the January episodes of “Society” and “Legends” will now be combined as a two hour long TV-Movie event that will air on January 29, 2010.
Both episodes are written by DC Comics favorite Geoff Johns (directed by Glenn Winter and Tom Welling) but it’s unclear at this time if the episodes will just air as two separate installments (9×11 & 9×12) back to back, or if they will be edited together with “Part 1″ and “Part 2″ credits rolling in the opening minutes. More news as it becomes available!

This SHoE File is going to end up as more of a scrapbook of Jor-El than a history. Jor-El has been around almost as long as Superman has, and while you would think he has a long rich history, his character has always been more of a ghost for guidance than an actual character on screen or on panel. There have been some instances with regard to Superman’s continuity where Jor-El has been a pivotal character, often through time travel or dream sequences. Lets take a look at the many different incarnations and representations of Jor-El since 1939.
