SHoE: Episode 175 – “Sign-Off”

Reports of its death were highly exaggerated. “Starkville’s House of El: The Movie” (aka Episode 175) is a 2 hour documentary chronicling the story of Smallville, SHoE, and the friendships and stories that were born out of both. It’s our thank you to our listeners for five years of being there with us every week, and our final farewell to a show that kept us watching for ten years about a boy who became a Superman. The End.

Thanks guys, I knew if I was patient you guys would give us a great send off and you did. No better time than December, an early christmas present. Now off to watch it.

Oh, man. I don’t know if I’m ready to watch this. It’ll be like Smallville ending all over again. Okay, I’ll watch it.
And hey, I guess there’s still Geek Out Loud.

Thanks for the memories, guys. Always hold on to ShoE.

  3. Anthony Pa says:

Where’s the basic MP3 format download?

  4. Derek says:

It’s a documentary, not an audio podcast. There will be no audio formats available for the film.

  5. @Derek and Everyone

So, thank you Derek, Steve, Damian, Joe, Robin, etc. for all your hard work. If it wasn’t for you guys, I literally wouldn’t have met my podcasting co-host Woo S. Kim or even joined the Across the Airwaves podcast to begin with. Thanks again!

I’ve only gotten through a little over half of the episode so far, but it is amazing. You hard work, dedication, and friendship has been a true blessing. To the SHoE crew, thank you for helping make all this possible. To Derek and Steve – my heartfelt thanks for all you guys do for all the listeners and just being a couple of truly great guys. If you ever need anything, all you have to do is call. And thank you to all those who took part in editing this famtastic work together. It really was worth the wait.

Here’s hoping for a bit of a “SHoE Crew reunited” – maybe as a special edition of Geek Out Loud – when Man of Steel comes out.

Take care, God Bless, and thanks so much for the early Christmas present. =o)

    Merry Christmas to All!!!

    Rich

  13. Woo says:

I wrote this on my Google + but I will repost it here. “Thank you to Steve Glosson, Derek Russell, Damian Holbrook, Robin Burdge, and last but certainly not least Joe Hummrich.

I considered you guys all my friends. Being a kid that was always different because I was in a wheelchair and not having many hobbies nor wanting any hobbies. I am very thankful I found Starkville’s House of El. You guys took a late night idea of a kid sitting at his desk (the same desk I am sitting at now typing this) in front of his HP Laptop staring at the Zune Marketplace software and four years later turning an idea I had to download a podcast onto my Zune and turning it into something that became my main hobby.

I haven’t had many moments where I can say ‘This was one of the happiest/best moments of my life.’ But for me SHoE has been one of those moments for me. I cherish SHoE and I cherish all these great men I mentioned above thank you.”

That was the shorter version of what I posted on Google + and I mean every word of it, I can only count on one hand over the last few years where I can say “That was a great moment in my life” and SHoE was that.

Whether it was a Zune, an iPod, a Blackberry, or and Android device. Damian, Steve, Derek, Joe, and Robin. You gave me laughter I have never had, you gave me friends that I never would have met if not for this podcast. I wouldn’t have gotten a Twitter account if not for Starkville’s House of El. You guys got me through boring and sad times because to not go into too much detail the last four years were rather dark for me. I can’t say thank you enough for that.

I want to give a shout to my friends who I met through here: James, my podcast partner Michael J. Petty, Natasha, AlisaLea, Taryn, and Tim. Thank you so much for the great discussions we have had right here in the comments section you guys were my friends at a time when I didn’t have many so thank you.

Lastly thank you to The Braintrust Jason Spencer (Great Work on #175 man.) Will Goodman, Graham Hancock (thank you for your hard work on #175 as well, Graham Tracey, Brian Mosley, the very Lovely Kim Jordan, Logan Angel, and last but not Tucker Colburn. (The Steve Ballmer to Derek’s Bill Gates). God I will miss you Starkville’s House of El!

  14. Laura says:

You guys had a great run. Thank you for all the hard work you have put into this. You were the light in dark times & I will always remember you for that.

  15. Ken says:

I have had problems downloading the file, but its on my end. I just want to know how long will the file be avaliable. I would hate to miss this.

  16. Carmina says:

Fantastic job. It was as good as I expected and I totally enjoyed it. Thanks so much for your hard work, I’m really gonna miss you.

    And Merry Christmas!!

  17. phill says:

  18. AlisaLea says:

Great show guys. Makes me want to go back and listen to all the episodes again.

    I’ll start . . .

    Now . . .

  19. Laurie says:

Derek, what about those of us who are visually impaired like I am?

  20. KEakaCK says:

I loved Steve’s reaction to the finale.

I’d like to see everyone’s reaction to when Jonathan appears to hand Clark the suit, when Clark takes off and dons the suit while flying up the fortress, and when Superman saves Lois in Air Force One

  21. Emily says:

Thanks guys. It was a lot of fun to see the history and all the work that went into this great podcast. I am just so thankful that you are still doing Geek Out Loud, otherwise it would feel like I lost some friends. So thanks again guys, you really are awesome.

  22. Eva says:

Bravo!!! I laughed, I cried, I laughed some more. I found Shoe embarassingly late (right before season 10) but had a great ride with you guys. This was a fitting sendoff. I’ll be looking into Geek Out Loud.

  23. Great stuff! I have listened to SHOE since day one and watched Smallville since the first airing. You did/do make the TV show better. I love that guy’s comment about how, “It’s like having a DVD commentary for each episode.” He’s right. It’s just like that. Only better. I love all the jokes in 175 too. Incredible Hulk, BTTF, Quantum Leap! At times, it did feel like I was watching someone read a love letter out loud for 2 hours but that’s okay (I guess). But you know what, it was a well produced and nicely edited love letter. Thanks for all the hard work. I know the pre/post can be a ton of work. Sorry, I didn’t post ever… but I listened every week. Thank you!
