These podcasts are always so hilariously adorable. I admit I laughed aloud at when Steve was describing his dislike convention crowds, and the halter top SHOEpodcast shirt. Also, the superman doc has definitely been placed on my netflix queue. Look forward to the next show.

Amen. The first time I saw Superman:The Movie and Christopher Reeve did that I fell in love with this movie and him.

P.S- I love Zach Levi (I’m 99.99% convinced he’s my soulmate) but he’s not Superman.

First of all, Android, Zune, and iPod SHoEligans rejoice we finally got a podcast after two months very pleased about this. A great podcast looking forward to San Diego Comic Con. I would love it and I know my fellow Android, Zune, and iPod SHoEligans that are not attending San Diego Comic would love it if The “SHoE braintrust” could stream the panel live. Not counting on it, but hopeful.

I do not think Zach Levi should play “The Man of Steel” he would be all right as Clark, but not as “Kal-El the last son of Krypton.” I have to ask my fellow Android, Zune, and iPod SHoEligans would it be too confusing for people to do a reboot of Superman and still have Brandon Routh play ”the duel role?” He is the only guy I could see and be comfortable with at this point.

New topic: This specifically goes out to MJ and since1938 who would you like to see as Lois Lane (I think it is a majority decision that Bosworth wasn’t Lois) who would you like to see play Lois and here is a point I want to make and a question I want to put out there: Does Lois Lane necessarily have to be a white woman?

Reason I say this is because of Kristen Kruek she sure as heck is not white totally and she did a good job as Lana (this is about her acting skills not the way the character was portrayed.) Reason I ask this is because I could totally see a Latina, Native American, Middle Eastern, or an Asian woman playing Lois. I bring this up because in the Post Crisis specifically in the Bryne Era in the comics Lois does look like she could be something other than a Caucasian woman. This is not a huge deal with me it is a thought that came into my head I’d just like to your thoughts on it specifically you since1938 and MJ because I know you two are big Lois fans. Just so you know, I have no ideas for actresses for a rebooted Superman film.

For the tenth season I would like to see Lana again for two reasons some I have already voiced on another post. Hummerich brought up a good story point I would like to see Lana and Lois have scenes together especially if Lois knows about Clark’s alien origins and all his secrets. I would just love to see the slight fear of Lois towards Lana in the sense of “Oh, crap my man’s first love is back, how do I handle this?” And how awkward scenes of Lana and Lois would be. Reason being as we all know Lois awkward= funny and good times. And some dramatic moments too. Not that Lois thinks Clark will leave her and get back together with Lana because Lois knows in Clark’s eyes she is is the one for him. But I’d love for Lana to say something to the effect of “Clark loves me and I will always love him… But he is IN LOVE with you Lois and I knew it the first time I saw you two together when I got back from Paris.” Remember in 4×02 Lana did notice something there between Lois & Clark. But really I want Clana to finally end with the two of them happy not you know crying and forced to be apart because I loved Clana and those two characters together they have been through hell and back and both deserve to be happy.

Lastly, Hummerich was talking about specialized hotel keys for Smallville it would be awesome if the keys were either the original silver disk or Book of RAO shaped to open the hotel doors. Lol. Anyway I want to hear your opinions Android, Zune, and iPod SHoEligans?

I remember either Derek, Steve, or a special guest mentioning that Clark should be leaving Lana at Smallville, not the other way around. Instead of Lana moving on and leaving her hometown, it should be Clark leaving her and his hometown to completely embrace his destiny. I think Lana should return for all the reason listed above but also for this reason, in order to show that Clark was forced to move on from Lana but chose to move on and it can be demonstrated with her return and his decision to stay with Lois and accept his mission in life. Let me know what you all think.

  14. MJ says:

@Woo, regarding your comments about Lois:

I have a few thoughts on this.

First off, Kristen Kreuk IS half white. She is half Chinese and half-Dutch. It gives her a very exotic look but Kristin does not, imo, look typically Asian. She looks Euro-Asian which is a very different thing. Neither one of these things is better than the other. There are women who are 100% Asian who are stunning. There are woman who are Euro-Asian who are stunning. Dean Cain is also Euro-Asian as he is 1/4 Japanese and the rest of his background is white.

As for Lois being played by a white woman vs. someone who is not white: I think there are two different ways to look at it.

The first is that Lois was created in 1938 and her physical appearance was specifically based on a model named JoAnne Carter. She was a model that Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster specifically hired and Joanne went on to MARRY Jerry Siegel. Lois was given her middle name “Joanne” after Joanne Carter, Jerry’s wife. So I do think that in a sense, Lois’s appearance, much like Superman’s appearance, has an inspiration and a basis that is important to the origin of the story. Jerry Siegel imagined Lois as a brunnette. Lois has also been influenced at times by Rosalind Russell in the film “His Girl Friday” with Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn.

For the most part, Lois has been consistently drawn as a Brunette over the last 72 years. There was a brief period in the early 90’s where her hair looked Auburn. But it still leaned towards Brown.

Personally, for me, it’s less about the color of Lois’s skin and more about her overall “look.” Lois is supposed to be incredibly sexy but she’s not supposed to be cookie cutter beautiful. She’s not supposed to be supermodel—although she does usually have an incredible body. Kate Bosworth turned me off as Lois for several reasons. I didn’t think she understood Lois’s character AT ALL. I also thought she was way way too thin and lacked sex appeal. Something that Lois has in spades. Lois is supposed to be more overtly sexual than Clark is. That’s part of her character.

Let me put it this way: I don’t personally have a problem with a more exotic looking woman playing Lois. I’d have a way bigger problem with a cookie cutter blond playing her because THAT in my opinion would not fit the character as she was conceived AT ALL. I think it’s more about the overall look and the attitudel

That being said, I do understand why there are people who think that Lois should be played by someone white. Because she was based on a REAL person who was white. I’ve worked as an actress in professional theater over the years. There are several parts that I would LOVE to play that simply aren’t a reality for me because the characters were written to be African American or Asian etc. I can never play the lead in “Aida” or “Miss Saigon” or “Ragtime” etc. I’m dark and olive skinned and I’m often mistaken as being Latina. So sometimes I get the chance to play parts that might have been written for a Latina woman because I can look the part. But I can’t play a role that was based on a Black woman and RIGHTFULLY so. Lois Lane was actually based on a real person and the person she was based on was WHITE. So while I personally wouldn’t have an issue with it I do understand why others might. I do think that when you are dealing with a character who has some basis in a real person that changes the rules a bit and it’s important to stay true to the original vision of the character. My ideal Lois would look just like the Lois from the comics. Tall, curvy, dark hair.

As for who should play her? I honestly have no idea right now. Erica Durance has done such an amazing job with the character that I’m just not ready to see anyone else play her at this point. And same goes for Tom.

  15. MJ says:

@Woo, I should probably also mention that I don’t really think you can compare Lana to Lois in how people would react. Yes, Lana was traditionally written as a red head. But Lana, as I understand it, wasn’t based on a real person and she’s never had the same importance in the overall mythos. If you ask any random person on the street who Lois Lane is they know who she is even if they don’t know anything about Superman. Lana? Not so much.

  16. Mitch says:

Callum Blue, Turi Meyer, and Al Septein are doing the “Kandor” commentary and all I know for sure is that Erica Durance will part of the “Idol” commentary.

And I’m so syked for SEASON TEN!!!!

  17. Woo says:

@MJ I agree I wouldn’t have a problem with an actress who isn’t white playing her I just wanted to hear your thoughts. The only requirements for Lois for me are the features that you mentioned for Lois.

  18. Woo says:

Here is something I would not mind seeing Hartley writing another episode and Welling directing it. What do my fellow iPod, Android, and Zune SHoEligans think about that?

  19. Jessica says:

Wow.. I totally agree with you what you said about that Christopher Reeves scene when he takes his glasses off that was totally a light bulb moment. I never thought about it that way, but it is so true. You just grow up watching the movie and believe Christopher Reeves is Superman and I guess I just didn’t realize how much he actually imbodies the character. I can’t wait to see the movie again and see it through new eyes, so thank you for that!!!
