//I would totally be on board for Loeb to write an episode.//

This. I’m already happy that Beeman is directing the finale.

  2. MJ says:

@Woo, I love Allison Mack but I have to disagree that she should be given the “same things” as Tom. Yes, Allison has been with this show since Season 1. And for what it’s worth, I admire her loyalty to the show. I may not always like Chloe but that never changes my feelings towards Allison.

That being said, Tom Welling is the star of Smallville. Always has been. Always will be. Allison began her stint on Smallville as a supporting player. Her role on the show increased after Jonathan passed away and it increased even more after Michael and Kristen left the show. However, my personal opinion is that Chloe is and always has worked best as a supporting player. Yes, there have been fans over the years that considered her a “favorite.” Just as there have been plenty of other fans who could kind of take her or leave her. Neither perspective is right or wrong. Everyone has their own favorites on this year. I’ve been watching since Season 1 and Chloe was never really one of my favorites. I liked her in the early seasons but I wasn’t dying to see her on my screen.

My point is that no one is on the same level as Clark Kent or Tom Welling on this show. I think Allison is great and I am thankful for all her years of service to the show. I admire her work ethic and her loyalty. But at the end of the day….this is Tom’s show.

If the 10th season is truly the last season of Smallville (and I believe it will be) then I truly hope that the writers and producers do whatever they need to do to tell CLARK’s story. To keep Clark at the center and the focus at all times.

At this point in time, yes, I do believe Erica Durance has EARNED her 22 episodes. She’s been with the show for 6 years and she has faithfully gone out and promoted the show even when her character was being pushed to the background. She’s patiently waited for her turn to be in the spotlight and that time is now. We are nearing the end of Clark’s journey which means that Lois is the woman that needs to be center stage by his side. As much as Smallville is a seperate entity and an AU….it’s still a story about Superman. And in a story about Superman, the most important woman is Lois Lane.

In order to best serve Clark’s story (and isn’t that the point of this show after all?) I think Erica Durance needs and deserves to finally have her 22 episodes next year. At this point, Chloe is probably only needed in about 12-13 episodes a season. As you said Woo, similar to how Lois was used in earlier seasons.

When you look back over Smallville show canon there have been rotating players in terms of who was Clark’s closest confidant and companion. There are fans out there who have rewritten the show canon and stated that that person was ALWAYS Chloe: But that is completely untrue.

In the first few seasons, Clark’s closest companions were his parents followed closely by Lex and then Pete. And of course, the woman that had his heart was Lana.

In the middle seasons, Clark’s closest companion was Chloe. This shift ocurred for several reasons. Jonathan was ripped away from Clark. Pete left town. Lex turned to the dark side. Martha eventually left town. Chloe was really the only person left in Clark’s camp. However, it should also be noted that Clark shared some important moments of friendship and companionship with Lois with her often being the person who could get through to him in a way that others could not. And of course, his heart still belonged to Lana.

In the later seasons, Clark’s closest companion has slowly shifted from being Chloe to being Lois. Clark’s heart has also shifted from Lana to Lois. It was as gradual shift over the course of the last few years but a natural one as Clark continued his search for a soul mate and slowly found that person in Lois. From here on out, I think we can expect that Lois will (and should) continue to be the #1 person in Clark’s life. But then again, that is completely natural and is often what happens when a man finds his life partner. Friendships change as the years pass, people grow up and when a man falls in love with the person who will eventually be his wife…his life changes. Ask any happy, seriously committed or married man out there and I can guarantee you they will agree. The shift of closeness from Chloe to Lois has been natural and realistic.

That being said, in order to best tell Clark’s story from here on out…Erica really should be in 22 episodes and Allison should be regulated down to 12 or 13. I know that some people might not like that….but then again….there are some people who watch this show and FORGET that this is a Superman story and that HE is the most important person that the plot needs to service.

  3. Susanna says:

    @MJ Well said!

  4. LJ says:

The only person that need to be in 22 episodes is Clark/TW, NOT ED/Lois or Chloe/AM both should be in like 16 to 18 episodes.

  5. Stan says:

Wow, those two Ausiello pictures just blew my mind. Wonder what the context of those are.

Hopefully we can avoid any and all plot devices that make Lois forget. If it does stick and Lois does find out, I think this is a bold move on the part of Smallville. They could easily justify not having Lois know because of the comic mythos, but it’d be interesting for them to shake it up. Sure, people will bitch, but that’s to be expected when you try something new.

  6. Susanna says:

Those pictures were amazing! I cannot wait till the season finale and see the context of those pictures. I wonder if Lois will find out, I always wondered what would happen if she didn’t and Superman came on the scene. She knows Clark, she has seen him sans, glasses. If she sees a full fledged Superman, she should know that it’s Clark!

  7. kimmie says:

@Stan When I saw the first pic I gasped but when I saw the second one, my heart actually skipped a beat. I was like “is this for real? Is this a manip?” Nope.

I think there will be a reveal and it will stick. About a week or two ago, I believe Al Septien responded to a tweet who asked if there were still DC restrictions on Lois and Clark and he said none that he was aware of so taking that into account . . .

I’m thinking back to Professor Bailey’s comments in the Idol podcast where said now is the right time for Lois to know and with her knowing they can explore things that they could never explore with Clark and Lana.

Can’t wait for the finale :D

  8. Natasha says:

I’m still coming bak from the dead after seeing those Salvation spoilers.

But I agree with MJ and Kimmie. I’ll try to be deeper when I’m alive again.

  9. kimmie says:

    Poking Natasha . . . Nope still dead :D

I’m just starting to breathe again. Notice she’s wearing the same leather jacket that she wore when she returned from the future in Savior/Pandora and her unconscious in front of their phonebooth.

Still can’t believe what we’re seeing but with everything we’ve heard about the finale, Clark’s hour of redemption, the fight between Clark and Zod, Hawkman, Star Girl, Black Canary, Cyborg, Martian Manhunter, Clark literally seeing his destiny, the supersuit, this – it’s going to be jammed packed. So full of hope.

  10. MJ says:

Umm…those photos killed me dead. Seriously, I’m still picking myself off the ground.

The first photo where he is saving Lois is just beautifully shot. The tulips on the ground are such a wonderful callback to the pilot episode with Martha and Jonathan in the overturned truck when they found Clark. He looks so heroic and she looks so beautiful.

The second picture is just….hot damn. God they are so hot I can’t stand it. I feel like I’m spying on them.

Amazing. I can’t wait for this episode.

  11. MJ says:

Oh and @LJ….for pure production purposes Tom cannot be the only actor to only appear in 22 episodes. Particularly now that he’s also a Producer both on Smallville and on his new show, Hellcats. There has to be at least one other full time cast member to help him. It’s just too much on Tom Welling to be the only person in 22 episodes. Now, I agree that there should be a rotating cast (sort of like there has been this year) where people come in and out for various episodes. But there has to be someone else who is full time. And at this stage in the Superman story, I believe that person should be Lois.

  12. kimmie says:

@MJ, that’s right about the tulips. What a wonderful call back to the pilot. God the continuity has been so amazing this year.

  13. Woo says:

@MJ I agree with what you’re so saying. Allison doesn’t need to be an exec. producer but that may be something she may want to come back for the tenth year. I’d actually like to see Hartley write more scripts and Allison direct more eps. next season if she returns.

  14. TJ says:

With all the talk about watching episodes from previous seasons, I went back and watched Commencement from season 4 finale. Last time I watched it was way back when season 4 dvd first came out. I remember being really excited during the last minute of the episode with Clark but I didn’t realize just how epic of an ending that was. Now, as season finale goes, it pretty average in my opinion…However, that ending has to be the most epic ending to a season finale in Smallville series, or any other Superman related series on television history. You have Clark with the surrounding, the crystal, and the music. If you haven’t done so, I highly recommend you go back and watch the final minute or so of Commencement and see if you agree with me. :)

  15. TJ says:

Now, this season’s finale could very well change that…

  16. James says:

Just saw the photos..the one with Zod and Clark fighting too..wow really!?Now about the context and will it stick,we’ll see,but if it does..I’m fine with it,in fact I’m all for it..just as long as it’s done the right way and I believe SV can pull it off..the timeline is right on the show, relationship is at the right point and they have the guts to do it,the great reveal.. so if Smallville shakes up things a bit again..BRAVO!!
The only thing I’m worried about and don’t want to happen is for Lois to forget as a plot devise, cause Lois forgetting stuff and being unconscious is getting really old..I’m afraid she could sustain permanent brain damage..maybe that’s the famous spacetime continuum altering kiss..hope not!!
Otherwise, with all the stuff that awaits us in this Grand Finale,we’re definitly entering the Superman era with as MJ said Lois being the main woman..THE woman..I think even Allison understands that and has no problem with it..that may even be one of the reasons she herself wanted less screen time and wasn’t sure wether to come back for next season or not.She understands the evolution of the story.
At this point the only people who want to much Chloe on screen are the shippers who never got over the fact that she and Clark won’t be together as a couple, which is absurde.I’ve always..well most of the time liked her character, but although she’d been in love with Clark for a long time in earlier seasons,I’ve never saw them as a romantic couple..she was his confidante..there was some great comeraderie and friendship between them but I never felt any mutual chemistry beyond that.Nevertheless I don’t want her completly gone..
On the other hand I can feel the chemistry between Lois&Clark/Tom and Erica just by watching that photo!
Nevermind that,I’ve said it before but now I’m becoming more and more certain that ‘Salvation’ is gonna be the best finale ever period!! Can’t wait for it..’Hostage’ this friday too!!

  17. Natasha says:

Ok, I’m back from the dead (actually I had to travel out of town to take my bro to he airport). Ok, so as far as “take backs”, I know the PTB are good for doing that but I don’t think they’re suicidal. Everything that has been building between Clark/Lois/The Blur is going to culminate to this point. They can’t take it back, it doesn’t progress the story at all for them to take it back, and I’m pretty sure Al Septien doesn’t want to be bombarded with hatemail…because he and Turi Meyer certainly would be if this doesn’t stick. Plus based on his tweets, I’m remaining optimitic that this is something that will propel Clark’s story and the relationship between Clark and Lois. We’re in Superman territory. The timing is just right for this universe. They’ve done the Clark/Lois relationship justice, they’ve blown every other incarnation of the Triangle out of the water, and it’s time for Lois to be in the know. F*** the “purists”; this is the right time. Smallville does not get enough credit for a lot of the good things they’ve brought to canon, and this could very well be another one on the list.

  18. susanna says:

Holy cow, have you guys seen the new pics of the finale yet!?

  19. Kimmie says:

YES!!! This finale looks amazing. The fight. Oh mylanta!! Beeman we missed ya.

And here I just got revived from yesterday and now I’za dead. Again.

  20. Stan says:

@ Natasha: I agree, things that happen on the show should happen based on other things that have happened on the show. The comics can be a guide, but the basis for any characters’ actions should make sense within that realm. And in the world that is Smallville, I think it’s time for Lois to find out, and I’m hoping Clark reveals himself as opposed to Lois finding out. It’d be the first time Clark’s revealed himself without being pidgeon-holed into it

@ Susanna: Yeah, the pics look sweet. Beeman!

  21. Natasha says:

Even with Ausiello’s (what are we calling him this week?) added spoilers wrt the pics, I’m still holding out hope. Plus, I think I trust Al Septien just a TAD (re: a lot) more than Ausiello.

  22. James says:

@Natasha..Yes..you said it girl! There’s no time like the right time!!
A lot of us agreed on those, more than a few things they’ve done with a canon and thus made it better. I also do hope this is another one!
Only I’m not so optimistic as you are..I still think that is gonna be kind of a cliffhanger thing, without anything being certain how it’s gonna go down and it’s up to season 10 creators to resolve it..God I hope they don’t screw it up..so from your lips to producers ears!

@Stan..I also hope and have been hopeful for a while now that, when it happens..Clark reveals himself, for the same reasons as you..it’s time i think for things to go down that way.It would be another first,a fair thing to do on his part and it would make his character even greater!
Anyway to keep Lois in the dark still, especially after the events that’ll obviously occure in the finale would be kinda cruel to both of them and in regard to what’s been happening in THIS show, maybe even stretching a bit too much in my opinion..

  23. Sarita says:

I JUST SAW THE SALVATION TRAILER! OH MY EFFIN’ GOOODNESS!

    Clark…that’s…it’s…he sees the….*crying hysterically*
