Whoa
Martha Kent=Red Queen
Martha’s line: “Your father and I didn’t want to put you in the line of fire.” This is has been Martha and Jonathan’s MO from Season One to Season Five. Heck, Jonathan died partly for that reason. I think this is going to be to steal Derek’s word “Epic” ep. This last three eps. may be the best lead up to a finale since the fifth season.
I just had a thought. Do you think Martha will die in this episode?
oh god i hope not that would be so sad. both his parents dead?? :(
@Martian: Please don’t put that out there in the Universe. Not only do I love Martha, but I don’t think Clark can take his mother dying while protecting him. At that rate, he’ll NEVER out himself as Superman because that’s what he’s been trying to avoid since he found out he’s an alien. Put that idea back in your head and don’t let it out to breathe again. PUT IT BACK I SAY!
In other news, I’m wondering if the CW unintentionally spoiled the Red Queen’s identity or if this was a deliberate mislead and I was wrong about Martha. (Still hope I’m right.) I’m going to be redundant in two seconds, so bear with me: I know people don’t want to think Martha capable of underhanded government “espionage” (for lack of a better term), but she said herself in the preview to whoever she was talking to (Tess? Maxwell Lord?) that a mother would do anything to protect her child. And she has worked for and with Lionel (LuthorCorp, Senate dealings). Hell, didn’t she kill someone once? This is why I’m doing a complete series rewatch this summer. Who wants to join me?
I’m too think the trailer might be a mislead Natasha. I mean I could be totally wrong but to give away such a biggie, I don’t know but we know the CW doesn’t exactly have a great track record when it comes to promotion and official descriptions.
With respect to Martha protecting her son and her being the RQ and you mentioned her working for Lionel, it’s funny because yesterday I was watching Cyborg and the subplot of Martha receiving the footage of Clark saving Lana from the explosion and what she eventually did to protect Clark lends itself to why Martha might be the RQ. Plus I thought this was interesting not that this was even a twinkle in the writers’ eyes but when Martha is sitting in front of the fireplace and she tosses the DVD into it, she is wearing a red suit jacket. So in a way I could see the writers using something like that which had no deeper meaning as a “flag” for the RQ storyline.
Yeah I don’t want Martha to die either. It’s just like the concept of Chloe dying for Clark because as I’ve said before I do not want one more person at this stage in the game who knows about Clark’s secret to die because seriously he won’t ever put on the cape and become Superman. He will fall back into his funk of “it’s all my fault, I’m the reason for everyone’s misery, I’m the reason why everyone dies.” I don’t want him to be stuck back up in the loft all alone bouncing his balls again.
@Kimmie: This //back up in the loft all alone bouncing his balls again// just always sound so wrong everytime someone says/types it.
But if not Martha, then who the hell could it possibly be? Who else would J’onn willingly work for to protect Clark. It wouldn’t be Chloe because for all she’s done this season, I don’t think she would deliberately let Clark believe J’onn was up to something if all the while he was working for her (and this is me giving Chloe a HUGE benefit of the doubt). It can’t be Tess because J’onn most definitely wouldn’t work for her. It isn’t Lana, and there is no one else (alive) outside of Kara (who is also not the RQ) that would go through this much trouble to protect Clark.
Is it Friday yet? What? Oh, it was just Friday yesterday? Damn!
@Natasha // This //back up in the loft all alone bouncing his balls again// just always sound so wrong everytime someone says/types it.//
I know but in a way that is always the image I recall when Clark seemed to go into his major brood mode – the end of Wither – everyone coupled but Clark who was up in his loft bouncing that stinking ball.
My one thing about it possibly being Tess although I’m still not entirely convinced is that MM does have his full on abilities and one of them is reading minds right? I mean he may have read that Tess might be controlling and a bit crazypants but she would not intentionally expose Clark or the JL. She hasn’t exposed GA yet and definitely has kept Clark’s secret quiet.
Lana – well if she knew so much she could just walk into the room and kill the Kandorians but another factor, as Steve said, If Lana came in, she’d kill the show.
Chloe, maybe but while she has shown she is quite resourceful and all knowledgeable from computers to medical degrees in ways that makes you wonder if she half supercomputer, would they really make THAT powerful to thwart a government agency, to possibly having that much control over Maxwell Lord an older and worldy individual?
I think it’s definitly Martha and to be honest I’d be kind of disappointed if it was any of those other female characters on the show..Lana I don’t even want to go there!
And Martha will not die!
The other important question is whether Perry is off or on the wagon cause the fine wine cannot be served at that “couples dinner” if he still..you know!
Seriously I can’t wait for the rest of what they have in store for us cause the hole deal is going down awsomly and I’m stlll positive this is going to be the best SV finale EVER!!!
@James: If you look at the still of Clark/Lois/Martha/Perry eating dinner, Perry is the only one without a wine glass. Continuity.
Yes!!! The continuity this season is fantastic!!! It’s great!
Also last night we got the call back to the journals that were given to Clark by Patricia Swann in Season 7. Please someone help me with the name of that episode.
They have done amazing job with continuity not just calling back to last season but going all the way back to the early years.
“Traveler”
Derek to the rescue. Thank you!
@Natasha, It was simply a thought. I am going to keep my thought floating around the universe though because it is a possibility. :-) I also love Martha and I doubt her death will happen. Besides after watching Sacrifice (Which i just saw today) I think Tess was the “death” that was suppose to happen this season. Anyway something big will have to happen in Hostage since it is the episode right before the finale.
@Martian, it’s okay. Unfortunately the thought flitted through my head as well, but I drop-kicked it to the recesses of my brain. I also really don’t want Tess to die, but I’m thinking that’s where this is headed because as the fanbase-who-shall-not-be-named would say, there are too many death-anvils. One thing’s for sure is that we know who it won’t be that’s dying.
@Natasha..Really? Because I was just kidding about that,I don’t really care about that as an important issue, but if it is so.. well then points for the continuity even in such details!
Then again Martha as RQ or not wouldn’t really be with an alchoholic…nevermind that.. what I actually want to say I guess I don’t really like them two being a couple at all,as an idea it just seems wrong to me..but who knows I’ll just have to watch the episode now won’t I!
I think its cute they can play a couple in the show since they are married in RL. But I think it will play out in the show in a interesting way. Maybe shes dating him because he is investigating the red queen?
@ James, I think a lot of us are reacting as if we were Jonathan and Martha’s children. We don’t want Mom with anyone other than Dad, lol.
@Natasha..Yeah right..I thought I was the only one..
No I don’t think it’s that,it just doesn’t seem to fit the story somehow,I don’t know whether it’s because of Martha or Perry..and I’m not talking about the canon or the mythology..actually maybe that’s it,maybe that’s what’s bothering me,but then again I don’t want to sound like some superman fundamentalist.Nevermind,I don’t even know what I’m talking about,I’m going to watch the episode and I’m sure I’m gonna like it and don’t get me wrong I’m really looking forward to seeing bothe, their characters and the actors again!I wish them all the best in real life since I know they’re married!
That line by Marsha about how Jonathan and Marsha didn’t want Clark in the line of fire makes me wonder if the over riding reason for Jonathan to run for Senate is to have an ear within the government to so that they can protect Clark and Martha just picked up the crusade after Jonathan’s death. The whole idea of Martha being the red queen is very surprising, in a good way, even though I had it in my head that she was the RQ for little over a week now. Kudos to Brian and Kelly for this great surprising gift. I’ve been wanting Martha to return for awhile now and can’t wait.
@TJ Trust me then, it will be great! Can’t wait ’till the finale!!!!!
Is it just me or does it seem like Martha is using krytonite on Clark in the trailer?
Man, I can’t wait for Hostage…I wasn’t even this excited for Absolute Justice. The last few episodes of Smallville leading up to the season finale hasn’t been this intriguing since, well, never in my opinion.
The only drawback to the season finale is gonna be the long wait till sesaon 10 begins! The cliffhanger is going to be crazy and that’s gonna leave me craving for new episodes..I feel like I’m gonna be going through the state of withdrawl! I’ve already said that I’m new to the show,I caught back on it last summer,I’ve watched all 8 seasons over the period of couple of months just in time to be ready to fallow season 9 weekly..so unlike most of you, this is the first time I’m gonna be left without my regular SV fix for so long!!
Not good!
If the finale is epic and as exciting as we all think it’s going be, this is going to be a long 4 months. At least there will be Comic Con in July to tide us over but I so feel SV withdrawal coming on?
Didn’t the end of this season seem to come on quicker than seasons past? It almost feels like we just watched Savior through Pandora and AJ and now we’re coming into the final two episodes of the season. I guess part of it is there really was no lag in storytelling this season as it had a tendency to do with past seasons. Every episode just pushed the story forward. Season 9 was a speeding locomotive that just barrelled right on through.
@Kimmie, James, everyone: This really IS gonna be a long hiatus once the season is over. This season really has gone by fast, but that just goes to show how amazing it’s been from start till now. I’m hoping that my trip to Comic Con will tide me over (I’m really REALLY hoping I get into the SV panel). I haven’t rewatched the earlier seasons in so long (with the exception of Red, Perry, and Transference just recently), and I’m gonna spend this summer rewatching the entire series…so maybe the wait won’t be SO bad.
@Natasha, have a great time at Comic Con.
We must be on the same wavelength because those are the episodes I’ve rewatched recently. Perry and Tranference gets me every time. But that is my goal this summer, to rewatch SV from start to finish. Already have the DVDs lined up for post May 14th.
@Kimmie, I have seasons 1-4 and 8, plus I have Season 9 on my iPod, so I’m Netflix-ing the hell out of seasons 5-7 (already have them in my que). You don’t know how hard it’s been to refrain from watching the Pilot (or Crusade). It keeps calling me…
1.) what the heck is Martha doin’ on a roof?
2.) I seriously hope she’s pointing that gun @ Tess. I love Martha tapping into her inner G! Martha go hard. ; D
WEBCLIP!!! It’s up.
The webclip gave me chills!
1) how in the world did Lois find out about the BOOK OF RAO?
2) is that a picture of Clark? Zod? another Kandorian?
3) Perry calling Lois “Lane”. *squeals* I don’t know why but I started jumping up and down.
Just caught the webclip and am really excited. Hehehe, Perry called her Lane and Kid. I’m really curious how on Earth Lois found out about the Book of Rao and knows it by name.
@Natasha, I have S4-7 on DVD, most of S8 on my iTunes and all of S9. S1-3 I queded up inmy Netflix (thank SHoE although bummed can’t stream those through my Wii). I am so tempted to watch S9 again before the finale by I want to wait until Hostage airs.
OH MY GOD! I just realized something. Geez, I’m so stupid! Faora was impregnated by a Zod WITH POWERS!
Does this mean that in the Smallville universe Lois and Clark can have children together?! The fanfic writers are gonna heve a field day w/ this mess. lol.
nevermind everyone. just caught myself.
1) Zod and Faora are the same species
and
2) not sure if Zod had their powers when baby was conceived
BUT…a Kryptonian had a kid w/ a Native American (mentioned in SKINWALKER)
*sigh* DC just needs to come right out and say “Yes, this can happen” or “No, this is no longer part of Supes mythology” b/c all these diff. worlds, and arcs, and stories have me riunnin’ all over the place.
Can we pressume that Zod as Blur already told Lois about the Book,or she went through Clarks stuff maybe,or Chloes..after overhearing some conversation between Clark and Chloe,or Oliver and Chloe? At this point I don’t see how else she could have gotten a clue about it..Checkmate perhaps?
I cannot wait for these next two episodes, but then again I don’t want the season to end! I really think that Martha is the Red Queen.
Rewatched the webclip again and realized that in one sentence, Saunders and Hawley accomplished two things – referenced the destruction of the Checkmate castle in Sacrifice, continuity continues and told us the location of that castle from Checkmate – in the Rocky Mountains, not the Alps or somewhere out of the country.
I do love MM and ED’s back and forth. They have the perfect the chemistry for White and Lane.
@ James: I’d bet that Lois found out about this from her investigation of Tess. I believe the Book of Rao was mentioned in a conversation between Tess and Zod in “Conspiracy.”
@Stan,Yes it’s possible..he called her as Blur episode after that and told her to investigate Tess for him..at that time Tess was still an operative for Checkmate..and since Checkmate was after the aliens, that would also explain her knowing about aliens being on Earth, that we also saw her mention in the webclip and the picture.
Over at tvguidemagazine.com there is an article asking for fans to submit questions to the producers of several shows and one of the shows is Smallville. I asked if the producers would take fan suggestions for what we wanted to the special features to be. Let’s hope they say yes!
Hi guys!
I’ve been rereading the Official Smallville Companion for season 4 (by Craig Byrne), and I just wanted to share with you an interesting quote, which I found there:
”P.S. Martha has a secret crush on Perry White. He came to Metropolis U and gave a journalism lecture, which she attended when she went to school there. She spoke to him briefly afterward, but had a date with Jonathan so didn’t stick around” (quote by A. O’Toole)
Well, I found that quote extremely funny, because now in season 9 Martha and Perry are really dating (personally, I don’t mind it– and to be honest I found the idea of them being together quite interesting).
Can’t wait to see Hostage and Lois/Perry interaction as well as Clark/Martha reunion, it’s going to be a great episode!
Haha that is a great find Joanna. Makes you wonder what Martha thought of Perry when she had to run him off of the farm in Perry. I’m not upset with this pairing either. I think it will be fun to see unfold and in particular Clark’s reaction to his mom dating. If you think about it they’re sort of on a double date.
I have to say, big props to Kelly and Brian it really seems clear that they have had a VERY clear vision of what this ninth season was going to be about, ever since “Doomsday.” I’m just assuming that they already have a pretty clear vision of what the tenth season story arcs are going to be like. I say “Pretty much” because we still don’t know if Allison will return to the series or not for the tenth season. Now, this is just speculation on my part. I’m thinking if Allison returned she would want Exec. Producer Credit just like Tom and have more eps. to direct if she were to sign on for one more season. I say one more season because I surely doubt there will be an eleventh season. Also, if possible it’d be awesome to get Jeph Loeb to write the 200th ep. of Smallville. What do my fellow SHoEligans think?
I would LOVE to have a Loeb episode… even a Verheiden— he did write Perry after all.
I would totally be on board for Loeb to write an episode. That is one of my Season 10 wishes. I know they were laying the groundwork at Comic Con last year. Maybe he could pen episode 200. Hopefully they’ll be able to work things out.
From what I understood and I could be wrong, one of the main reasons Tom got an EP title was because he wanted better communication between the set and the writing room so he would serve as the “liason” rather than necessarily having a “power” position. There appeared to have been a disconnect with past seasons.
If I remember what Damian said in the Warrior podcast, Allison liked having lower screentime this season because it freed up time for her to do other projects like RIESE and produce shows with Kristen Kruek with their production company. Assuming an EP role would probably mean taking up more of her time with SV than less. I’m assuming the contract negotiations going on are over how many episodes she’ll be in and whether it will be throughout the season or over the course of a number of consecutive weeks.
I just want to clarify that I don’t believe that if Allison is looking for an EP title it’s because of stature or or a power position. I believe the main reason that Tom asked for the EP role is because of creative reasons, because of a disconnect between Vancouver and LA and how the characters were being written. However, more power to her if she is seeking it and obviously she deserves it.
@Kimmie I say give her as many eps. as Erica back in the fifth and sixth and seventh seasons because she wasn’t in every ep. but it didn’t feel her presence was missing.
@Kimmie and I agree she deserves just as much as Tom because she has been there the same length Tom has.
