i guess i’ll repost that screencap of lois coming out of a cake:

I find Maxwell Lord very creepy.
This looks like a great mythos episode. The classic scenerio of Clark trying to protect his secret identity and Lois somehow getting caught in the middle of it. Return of the corrupt DA! Clark and Lois investigating and arriving at the same spot through two different means. Lois proving once again that a woman can be smart, strong AND sexy (Novel concept for some people: you don’t have to CHOOSE. You can be both.)
I’m ready for this one!
Just saw the new HOSTAGE image. I absolutely love it! They’re all country and what not. Lookin’ so freakin’ cute with they’re plaid tablecloth. : D
I got into Kentucky (visiting brother) just in time to find the right station for Smallville. Hey SV, I’m suffering through TMZ just for YOU!
5 minutes in and I’m cry confused. Man I love this show
Anyone else think Franklin Stern will hire Perry as the new Editor next week, God I hope so. Also, they better not break Clark and Lois up or I shall be very angry.
Those legs! Chloe’s outfit was a red herring, she would be considered as a JL member, not a new player. It’s Martha. In her senator’s limo. Then again, Ollie was away on business due to an increased workload because of Tess’ absence, but we never got an explanation for Zod… Could Zod be cross dressing as the Red Queen, if so, he has some purdy legs, lol.
Wow I now believe that the Red Queen is Martha. I think this was one of my favorite episodes this season. This whole season has been one blockbuster movie to me!
hmmm I’m not quite sure what to say about this one. I think I need to watch it again. But I did find it pretty enjoyable.
I’m probably the only one who thinks that the Red Queen is Aaliyah, even though we saw her funeral. The reasons I think she’s the red queen because we saw her have powers under both a red and yellow sun. She gave Zod the gun to shoot her, so the gun could’ve had some magic bullet or something. At the beginning of the season, I had a feeling she was going to have a much larger part in this season than she had. I don’t know guess it’s just some weird theory I have. I’m probably totally wrong.
Wow.Had to comment on this one. That episode was emotionally amazing. What a surprise. I actually felt myself just getting completely absorbed. That was some good drama, my friends. It was a classic Superman story. Lois loves Clark but she is drawn to his hero persona and she doesn’t know why. Honestly, I feel like such a sap but I almost cried when I saw Clark almost cry. Clois was taken to a new level of depth tonight. Well done Smallville. Wee done. Now THAT is how you do angst.
Initial reaction: Frickin. Loved. It. I will come back with something more coherent after I download from iTunes, but it had everything a proto-Superman show should have. DP related plot, good villian that didn’t take over, proper non-contrived angst, there was a good amount of Lois but it was all about Clark. GREAT sequel to Idol. Tom and Erica were amazing. Can’t wait to get all meta with you guys. I need my download now. Whitehead and Henderson are three for three this season in my book.
This was an outstanding sequel to Idol. It was the triangle built for two amped up and played so beautifully by Tom Welling and Erica Durance. The two final scenes, between Lois and the Blur and Lois and Clark just broke my heart. Erica was amazing but the Emmy tonight needs to go to Tom because he just hit a grand slam with this episode.
I agree with you Kathleen, this is how angst is done. This is the type of angst I can handle and dare say enjoy.
I also loved the villains in this episode – neither was overly used. It was the perfect balance – Ray Sachs as the small potatoes villain and Maxwell Lord the big fish. I really liked Gil Bellows as Lord. He played the shadyness and villainy well and Dylan Neal well he was that perfect smarm.
On top of all the emotional tugging on heartstrings we also got the flirty, light hearted side of the Lois and Clark relationship as well as the reporting team of Lane and Kent. The DP scenes were great and loved the foreshadowing of Perry White’s soon-to-be future job at the DP.
Kudos to Henderson and Whitehead for writing such an outstanding episode that dealt with the triangle for two. It brought so much that has been up to now just been skirted around with Lois and Clark to a tipping point. And major kudos to Brian Peterson for his directorial debut. He did an amazing job. There were so many small details to this episode that just made the characters of Lois and Clark so much more layered and three-dimensional.
Also, shout out to Louis Febre – loved the 20’s/30’s sounding music during the party scene as well as calling back and using the music from the Rabid rain scene during the Lois/Blur break-up scene. Talk about tugging at heartstrings.
I will probably have more to say after I watch this without commercial interruption but overall loved the episode.
What an absolutely brilliant episode.
Another good episode for the 9th season. As a previous commenter said, this was a nice way to touched back on “Idol” while at the same time progress things.
Don’t have any previous experience concerning the Maxwell Lord characters but I found him interesting and liked that perhaps not everyone within Checkmate shares the views that Amanda Waller has. Plus, the scene when Clark as the Blur smashing through the “cylinder” just as picture was being completed was something else that I enjoyed.
For what little screen time that they had, Chloe and Tess made the time impactful and not make it feel like they were just filling time. With what’s to come in next week’s episode I’m sure that I won’t be disappointed by what goes on between them.
Now, as for the whole Clark/Blur and Lois situation, obviously issues that were subtlly touched on throughout their relationship and were expanded further. I’m glad that they ended the episode with the question that Clark had being left unanswered.
We also got a brief appearance of the Red Queen. I’m looking forward to when the identity of who it is and how that’ll affect the characters and show in general.
As for a rating for the episode, I’ll give it a 4 out of a 5.
As many of you who have become close associates of mine, since I began posting my thoughts about Smallville I have felt fairly lukewarm about Clois. “Charade” made me sold on Clois because (and I knew Brian [BTW great job Brian with directing this ep. a great job with your first Smallville ep. you directed.] and Kelly were going to have to play into the iconic Man of Tomorrow, Clark, and Lois triangle) and they did so masterfully in my opinion.
This ep. probably had some of the best couple dialogue. Not since “Unsafe,” “Pariah,” and “Requiem” have I felt the man tears coming on for couple dialogue.
With that said, Welling and Durance delivered. I think this is the ep. people have been waiting for since Lois arrived in “Crusade” if not “Arctic” when Clark and Lana spilt up and Clark and Lois hugged in the farmhouse. To see the iconic “Love Triangle” that has existed for seventy years and yet do it in a completely fresh way. I will say this maybe Tom and Erica’s best performances they have ever done together or period.
Lois’ explanations of why she needed to protect “The Blur” broke my heart especially when she said “I’m seeing a new a new side of you Clark.” Erica can play “broken hearted disappointed” extremely well we saw in “Instinct” we she Clark and Maxma almost about to have “Love in a Elevator” and we saw it in “Roulette” but here it was even more pronounced with her scenes with Clark (not “The Blur”) in the alley. I bought Lois’ explanations and I believe her explanations however, I could tell even though she knows why “The Blur” can’t reveal his indentity and understands. She is still epically hurt that she doesn’t truly know him and can’t experience everything about him; even after she learns who he truly is because we have seen similar instants in “Lois & Clark” I’m flashing back to the ep. in the 4th Season of “Lois & Clark” where Lois finds out Clark won’t grow old with her and she might be pushed aside for the greater good or for a younger woman.
Welling did an awesome job as well playing “Jilted lover Clark.” This is something every actor whether it was Tim Daly, Dean Cain, Brandon Routh, and of course Christopher Reeve had to all learn how to play. This role was just as important as playing “The Man of Tomorrow” or playing Clark is for an actor. And Tom did it masterfully, especially when he was on his BlackBerry Pearl Flip Phone talking to Lois… The Line that killed me. “There’s gotta something else in your life more important in your life.” My god. What an awesome line reading. Welling hasn’t played “heartbroken” very much on the series (not counting The Lighthouse days) when he does, he knocks it out of the park.
Other than the Clois stuff loved the Mercy and Chloe scene in Ollie’s office. This two characters are very similar in terms of places in the series. Neither are really sure, who they can trust and one can see it on their respective faces, they are very unsure if they are going to make out of this season alive. Especially Mercy because she looks frightened to death and when she told Chloe “I’m still CEO” I didn’t buy the tough-girl act one bit. I’d have to say in my opinion Chloe, Mercy, and Zod. I’d have to name one of those three as someone that is going to pass away at season’s end. Most likely Mercy.
Geek Wood: Franklin Stern last seen on “Lois & Clark’s” Season One finale played by James Earl Jones too bad they couldn’t get him to play Mr. Stern again. Once Lois and Clark got terminated and I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought this. The opening for Perry White’s return.
Final Thoughts: I’m now sold on Clois, I almost knew “The Triangle” had to be introduced I’m glad it has been. Great use of Checkmate, Ray Sachs I despise just as much as Derek does Amanda Waller. Again, may some of the best couple dialogue in the nine year run of the series.
Episode Rating: 4 out of 5
Did anybody got the feeling that Lois on some level actually knows that the Blur and Clark are the same person? When Maxwel Lord was trying to read her mind he comennted that unlike those others this one knows his identity, and even unconscious is trying to protect it.I think it is quite possible that subconsciously she is aware of that which makes her feel so close to the Blur even beyond the higher calling that’s her major atratcion to him, besides she coudn’t have forgotten the events and feelings from the idol..,and I’m qite certain that in the episodes to come she will start to remember the pictures that lord was probably induceing while probing her memory..start to connect the dots, and draw conclusions this time conciously..,so besides the mytos triangle we can possibly get also classic situaton where Lois starts to get suspicious and investigates Clark, trying to prove her suspicions about him being the Blur/Superman..not to expose him but for her sake..maybe I’m reaching too far too soon, but atleast what do you think about her being aware on some possibly subconscious,or intuitive level of Clarck’s secret identity?
@ James – I’ve been suspecting that Lois subconsciously knows that Clark is the Blur, and I think I’ve finally got my answer in yesterday’s episode… Lord says to an unconscious Lois while trying to read her mind: “You’re fighting it, you know him – don’t you?”, and then when Clark appears he tells him: “The connection between you two is stronger”, “stronger because of love.” The audience knows that Lois loves Clark. She stated that in Committed, then in Disciple she said to Clark that she thinks “he is the one”, and in Upgrade she said to Corben that Clark is “IT” for her.
Have you seen the projection of her memories/the hologram of the Blur? The 3D model was totally Clark! When I saw it, I was really shocked because the image of the Blur was so clear! And when Clark jumped in order to destroy it, for a split second he became “one” with the hologram. So yeah, I think that Lois knows on the subconscious level, but she’s fighting this idea and blocking it from her consciousness…
By the way – it was such a fantastic episode! I loved every single moment of it…
I guess my favourite scene is when the Blur puts a hand on Lois’s shoulder and she touches his fingers– when Lois cried, I almost cried with her…such a simple scene, yet extremely emotional and touching…I loved it!
@ James, not only because of her connection to the Blur, but as the 3d model of his face was forming while Lord was rifling through Lois’ brain, it was startin to look like Clark even before Clark burst through the model (AWESOME scene, btw).
@Woo, I had to smile when you said that you felt the “man tears” about Clois last night. My husband and I watched together and at the end I looked over at him and he was like, “What the hell is wrong with me? I’m ready to cry at a damn tv show!” LOL He was definately feeling the man tears. How could you not? It was gut wrenching but in the best possible way.
There have been a few select episodes/moments of Smallville that have moved me to the point where I’ve actually shed tears. Rosetta, Memoria, Vengeance and now Charade has been added to the list. This is the first scene that has NOT been between Clark and his mother and father that has moved me in that way.
I echo everyone’s sentiments. This episode was outstanding. It was well written, well directed and well acted. Everyone in the cast was fabulous but I agree with Kimmie. I gave “Idol” to Erica but I think I have to give this one to Tom. He was OUTSTANDING last night. One of his best performances of the entire series. The way that he has grown as an actor over the last 9 years is just unreal.
Make no mistake….I think a lot of people in the fandom are going to miss just how important this episode was. This episode was not just about Clois. It had EVERYTHING to do with Clark and his continued struggle to figure out just WHO he is and how he tries to balance his two personas. Is he Clark or is he the Blur? Well, the answer is neither. He’s both. He can’t just be Clark and he can’t just be the Blur.
Lois loves Clark. She has made that clear. But right now, Clark is only sharing half of himself with her. Lois is drawn to his hero side like a magnet. She has no idea why. The audience knows that it’s because her love for Clark is so powerful that she’s drawn to him no matter what clothes he’s wearing. She’s the first woman to not just “accept” that hero side of Clark but to actually love the entire persona. THIS is what the triangle for 2 is about.
Clark can’t deny his hero side anymore than Lois can. We saw last year in “Hex” that he didn’t feel complete when he was just Clark. This ties in with the Superman canon that we know from the comics. In the comics, after Lois was shot, Clark wondered if his duties as Superman had brought more pain to the world than good. But he came to the conclusion that he couldn’t stop being Superman. He LOVES being Superman. Then he added…”I love being Superman FOR HER.” It’s all interconnected. His love for saving people, his duty to the world, his love for Lois, her love for him, her love for his heroism. It’s very complex. But THIS is what the Triangle for 2 is about. And Smallville NAILED it last night.
“Lois and Clark” in the 90’s tried to simplify the Triangle for 2 by saying that Superman was only what Clark “could do.” What Smallville is giving us is much much closer to where we stand in the modern Superman canon. In the modern comics, Kal-El is a true persona and part of Clark’s identity. The love that exists between Lois and Superman is so powerful because she loves all sides of him with equal passion. She loves the reporter and she’d gladly die for the hero.
Chloe and Tess were great together last night. I’m always happy these days when I can watch and episode and like Chloe! So yay for that one! DA Sachs is a great villian. He’s so swarmy and sleazy. I love it! Looking forward to seeing more of Maxwell Lord. He was very creepy and menancing.
Brian Peterson did a FANTASIC job in his first outing as director.
I was thinking this morning of something Derek said on a recent podcast. I’m just so sick of the fans picking apart this show and jumping all over stuff instead of actually using their brains to think about things. I’m tired of the constant criticism from the people who are supposed to love this show the most.
In my opinion, I can’t understand how any true Superman fan–a fan who really understands WHO Superman is and WHO Lois Lane is could NOT like last night’s episode. Those two were written so well last night and were linked so closely with the modern Superman canon that it was scary. It was a brilliant episode.
@James, I totally believe that deep down, on a subconscious level, she knows that Clark is the Blur and I believe that is part of the reason for that tear in the closing shot after the Blur blurs away. As Lois said in Idol, “It would be so much easier if they were same person” – Oh how much relief and freedom these two will feel when they both are able to respectively reconcile and merge the two lives they are living.
@Natasha, yeppers, Clark’s face was just shy of forming and I believe that was one of the indicators that Lois knows but is suppressing it, maybe be cause as Lord had said she is protecting his identity but also maybe because she is “blocking” it until Clark comes to her and tells her his secret or it could possibly be a combination of both.
@Joanna yes that scene was so touching when the Blur reaches out touches her shoulder. I got the feeling when Lois says she says ‘I can’t know who you are’ and Clark starts to turn away, it almost seemed like that Clark felt Lois was rejecting him in some way but when he heard the words she spoke he realized it was the complete opposite. It was absolute acceptance.
As I’ve said before the scene that got me was the break-up scene between Lois and the Blur. The sheer agony and desolation that Clark was feeling when he had to sever the ties forever, ugh heart wrenching. He even had to look away from the phone booth in order to fortify himself to say that he would still continue to look out for her and say his final good-bye *sniff*
Comicbook blog had some great insightful things to say about this episode. It’s nice to see the true mythos fans recognizing how great it was.
From Comicbookblog:
“This episode wins the crown for Best Relationship Episode, because it perfectly displayed all the classic earmarks of the Lois-Clark-Superman love triangle. But where it really excels is that instead of using all the classic clichés associated with that messed up relationship, they managed to flip everything on us. Whereas Superman typically uses the whole “If you knew who I really was, my enemies would get to me through you” argument, Smallville’s Lois actually understands that point, and uses it on Clark as justification for why she actually TRUSTS the Blur. Who saw that coming?
And at the same time, Clark manages to come off looking like a jerk, but thankfully only to Lois this time. We know why he’s doing everything he’s forced to. And I swear, I think this was Tom Welling’s best acting job in forever. You really felt his frustration as he tries to get Lois to understand him without giving his secret away, and just when he’s about to, she explains to him why he shouldn’t! Classic Superman.
For sheer Superman-ish-ness, this episode ranks pretty high. But not only that, but it was actually very well written, with every character giving their all. Super.”
I thought the episode was amazing. It was very emotional and a classic superman story. I totally echo the issue about the Smallville fandom being overly cruel and critical. Some people will never be happy and I’m starting to wonder how many of these so called “fans” even know anything at all about Superman let alone care. Honestly, I’m at the point where I have just started boycotting Ksite. The posters there (with a few exceptions) are very young and immature and all they do is bash the show. I’m done with that site. There are much better conversations of substance going on in other places where people actually seem to get Superman. Just done.awesome episode though!!!!
ITA. There’s a reason why I limit myself only to this site and a few other more mature Smallville fan sites where the posters are generally
1) older than 16 years old
2)mature
3)understand WHO Superman is and what he’s about.
4)Understand the other supporting players and their role in the mythos of Superman.
I don’t waste my time with boards where people can’t seem to speak with maturity or in full sentences nor do I really care about the opinions of people who are just ignorant (and proud to be)about the Superman story.
Last night’s episode was one facet of a true Superman Story-The Triangle For 2. Now maybe if someone only watches this show to see Clark kick people’s asses they didn’t like it. But honestly, if you are a TRUE Superman fan who really understands the character’s history then you know that his relationship with Lois and this insane triangle that brings them together is a huge part of the story. If you dismiss that part of the mythos then honestly…you’re missing half the story. It’s like reading a book and deciding that you are going to skip every other page. You might get to the end but you’ll half of the emotional interactions that make the character who he is. You miss out. In my opinion, anyone who could honestly argue that last night’s episode was not “Superman” doesn’t know Superman AT ALL.
It’s great to see that there are fans out there who can support the show with maturity. We may not always agree and there are going to be weeks when we like certain things more than others. But it’s nice to see people being positive about the show as opposed to just constantly picking at it.
What a fun episode! So many great character moments. Hopefully everyone in Chicagoland set their DVRs to run long; the show didn’t start until 11:00 pm. I guess that’s better than waiting until Sunday, which is what WGN used to do when preempting Smallville.
By the end of the episode I wasn’t sure who to feel bad for, The Blur, Clark or Lois. In the end I decided to go for all 3. And yes I know Clark is two of those. :D It was very well done and showed the utter conflict Clark must feel when it comes to telling Lois who he is. But it also showed just how much Lois has grown, she doesn’t need to know who the Blur is to want to help him. Loved the Chloe/Tess stuff, the look on Tess’s face when Chloe left her was so filled with hurt and fear. Loved the scene with Lois and Chloe, it was light hearted and fun. I wish these two had more screentime.
Dylan Neal is just brilliant as the ex DA. Very smarmy but so very charming.
@MJ I really think “Charade” will be the “Bulletproof” of this season. When this ep. began much like “Bulletproof” I didn’t believe I was going to enjoy it, as much as I did. “Bulletproof” I needed to see on Blu-ray just to comprehend why Derek and several other Smallville fans loved it so much; now I totally understand it and love the episode. Same with “Charade” I didn’t think it was going to be all that great, but then the Clois scenes.
I don’t know in the fourth season if Durance and Welling knew if they were going to have to play the relationship aspect of their iconic characters or if they would ever have too. I mean we the fans of Smallville didn’t even know if we were going to see that. After last night, I feel totally confident in those two performers stepping into their iconic roles.
In regards to “The Triangle” Brian and Kelly have done amazing job taking a new spin on a legendary (copyright Barney Stinson) story-line. I do enjoy the fact that we see “The Triangle” when Clark and Lois are in an actual relationship. In The Animated Series similar to the Singer/Donner films Lois barely notices Kal-El. Sure, they are friends and co-workers but Lois wouldn’t see him necessarily as a significant other. In “Lois & Clark” she has pretty much given up on her “Man of Tomorrow” love fantasy and fallen completely for Clark. The frustrating “Triangle” aspect is Clark running off to save someone or help someone and she doesn’t have an explanation of why he runs off constantly. In Smallville it’s great to see Clark wondering why Lois is running off. Now, I don’t know if Lois knows or not about Clark’s secret, but I will say this Erica Durance is the most aware Lois Lane ever, in that she has already knows something has been off about Clark. This has not been something we’ve seen in Teri Hatcher, Kate Bosworth, and Margot Kidder. If nothing else, after the events I wouldn’t be too upset if she learned Clark’s secret in 10-22
After watching this episode a couple more times I am placing it as my #2 of the season. I do have one question. Lois punched Clark shouldn’t that be like punching a steel door?
Craig broke the news, Phil Morris is returning in the finale. WHOOOOO! Absoluter Justice is what they should call it! More heroes than ever before:Clark
Ollie
Black Canary
Cyborg
John Jones
Stargirl
Hawkman
… Zod doesn’t stand a chance.
@ Tim, I’m very happy that Phil Morris is returning in the finale and I actually would love for him to be a regular in Season 10. On the other hand, I really hope that all of these extra heroes don’t take the spotligght off of who the real hero (re: Clark and no one else) of the story is supposed to be and that they are following HIS (re: Clark and NO ONE ELSE) lead.
Back to Charade, watched it again, sans comercials, and it was even better than I originally said. I caught more dialogue this time around and the picture quality was 1000 times better. And I almost cried, twice.
@Woo, glad to see we brought you over to the Light Side. Thy name is Clois.
@Sara, oh I agree, I completely felt for both Clark AND Lois last night. I do believe this is the first Smallville relationship outside of Ma and Pa Kent where I didn’t want to strangle one or the other side (or both). I think another thing Charade proved is that you can have a “relationship” episode that is completely relevant to the overall theme of the season (series) rather than something that is contrived just for drama’s sake.
God, I love my show.
@Natasha I was never not a fan of Clois I was just concerned that they were not going to do a good job with “The Triangle” or the relationship this season. “Charade” was proof that they could and will.
@Joanna My thoughts exactly..and the possible reason why Lois is fighting off or blocking that idea consciously is the fear of loosing or having to loose Clark from her life too, just as it happened with the Blur..that would mean loosing him alltogether..what Kimmie said it maybe the reason for that tear after Blur puts his hand on her shoulder and blurs away..there was,I think even a glimpse of recognition on her face when she touched his hand back.
@MJ You said it all…about people understanding, not understanding..I totaly agree with you..that insane love triangle 4 2 is basically one of the cornerstones of the superman canon, his struggle..those who don’t get it don’t get the superman story and I myself especially after Charade have become a “Clois” I guess fan in Smallville particulary because the new and refreshing outake on that triangle and ofcourse Tom and Erica’s performance and chemistry.
Otherwise I agree with everything you people said about the entire episode whit all it’s great moments, not to repeat them,as being one of the best this season..directing,acting..storywise.,emotonally…looking forward to the rest of the season, sure it’s gonna be great with all the characters and heroes coming, but agreed Clark has to be at the center!
Some Smallville News: “Charade” is up on Zune Marketplace and is Number 6 on iTunes right now.
@Natasha I miss Ma and Pa Kent. But as an outed Chlollier I love their relationship too. I have enjoyed the different types of relationship the show has been giving us this season. Maybe I’m just easy pleased :P
I guess I’m, well I know I am, a little different when it comes to having Clark at centre stage but I understand what you guys mean. I would hope he isn’t overwhelmed by the large amount of heroes who appear in the last episode. Although I am excited that J’onn and Carter are back. I’d love Phill Morris to become a full time cast member as I’ve loved every single second of his screen time. :)
I agree with everything you guys wrote. I am blown away by this season’s episodes.
Also, how awesome is it that they’re keeping the identity of the Red Queen hidden? It keeps us guessing every week, and speculating with the fans is one of my favorite things to do. Are we still thinking Martha? :)
Can’t wait for the rest of this to unfold. They might’ve cleared up the triangle for two a bit, but by doing so they opened up cans of worms everywhere that will need tending to before the season finale.
Is it Friday yet?
Max Lord reminds me of Milton Fine/Brainiac.
Anyone else with me?
Smallville wiki now says Speedy and the Wonder Twins will also appear in the finale. Can anyone confirm this?!?!?
What a horrible episode. I wonder when they are going to get Clark to stop hitting normal humans so hard. Each episode this Clark gets farther and farther away from being Superman. I had a more Superman vibe from him in season 1.
Love this episode. It had a very good and strong superman vibe to it. I also love Franklin Stern. Can he please be a regular? That is if Perry White (McKean) is not going to be a regular for season 10.
Overall one of the strongest episodes for the second half of the season. Three more episodes to go and I can’t wait for what’s in store. Love smallville.
@It Sucked Are you freaking kidding me? This was filled with the classic superman feel!
Some Smallville News: “Charade” is Number 4 on Apple iTunes and Number 9 on Zune Marketplace. Good for Smallville.
One of the major arguments against Chlois is that Lois Lane wouldn’t be anyone’s sidekick. Well they have turned her into one, why aren’t Lois fans angry about this, because she’s dating Clark?
@Lois sidekick? First, of all the “major” arguments against Chlois, the sidekick argument doesn’t even rank. Chlois fails as a theory long before one would even get to the sidekick argument.
Second of all, there’s a big difference between helping out a hero whose identity remains a mystery to you and someone like Chloe who is Watchtower to a team of superheroes.
Finally, any critique I may have of Lois’ characterization is not whitewashed away because she is dating Clark. That is an inaccurate generalization, in my opinion; and it’s insulting.
Lois fans aren’t angry about this because the sane ones don’t bother listening to insane Chlois theorists.
Strangely enough, the main ‘argument’ against Chlois is actually that Lois Lane is already a character on the show.
Truth hurts
@Lois sidekick? It does, doesn’t it? I’m fond of this truth: Chloe Sullivan is not and never will be Lois Lane.
@ Paloma and Chrissy: *bows*
@It Sucked I’m sort of confused when people talk about Clark being overly violent this season. What does one expect? Should he tap Sleazeball Sacks on the shoulder all nice and polite-like, snap his suspenders, clear his throat, and with a winsome smile and limitless patience ask the same man who tossed his girlfriend over a roof where he and his ape-like goons took Lois? Seriously? Come now.
I know Superman is known as the Boy Scout but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t dish out a liberal dose of whoop-ass when the situation calls for it. And it calls for it often.
Sure, there’s still some fine-tuning to be done this season with how he deals with things as a hero, finding balance, but I’m yet to feel like he’s some sort of rabid beast who runs around beating every criminal to a pulp for the fun of it. Perhaps I’m blind.
@Paloma and Chrissy, word!
I loved this episode, and cannot wait for Derek and Steve to share their thoughts on it!
I’m sorry but anyone who has ever read a Superman comic and actually knows the mythos (as opposed to being ignorant and dismissive about the source material) knows that Chlois might be the dumbest idea to ever exist. Sorry but I rely on people like Jeph Loeb, Geoff Johns (should I go on?) …people who actually know and understand the mythos. Both of whom have been quoted praising Erica Durance as the closest representation ever written in a live action Superman show compared to the modern comics. If you want to stay ignorant be my guest. You can take it up with the people at DC comics. And by the way…get your facts straight. Lois Lane, in every incarnation, is willing to die for Superman. She’s not his sidekick…she is his partner. His wife. She is also his voice. She serves the greater good by reporting Superman’s deeds to the world. She is the person he comes home to at night after a difficult day…the person he finds comfort in. The person he loves. The person he can reach out to when he has no one else to talk to. Make no mistake…Smallville is only a few steps away from reaching this destination. So take your ignorance elsewhere. The people on this site actually have respect for the mythos and all that this character stands for. Something the chlois theory has NEVER had.
@Natasha I’d never even heard of the “Chlois” theory until “The Smallville Big Fans” featurette on the Season Six Home Video. Now, not to offend any of the people that believe this theory. However, when I saw “Pilot” I never thought that Chloe would become Lois. It would have been cool, if it happened that way, but when Lois showed up in “Crusade” that theory was dead and it was buried when Chloe found out Clark’s secret. Now, I just want this clarified do these “Chlois” shippers want Chloe and Clark to be together or do they just want Chloe to become Lois? I can never tell anymore.
