Poll: Opening Credits

With what seems to be the final season of Smallville around the corner and the different tone the show has taken on in the past two seasons, is it time for a new theme? I am a very nostalgic guy and I don’t know if I want the theme changed. However, getting a majestic theme for this series’ final season could be very exciting.

What say you, loyal SHoE-ligans?

Typically I don’t like it when a show changes their opening theme. I didn’t like it when SV changed it last, however, as I’m typing this, I do realize that I get bored with the one I’ve been seeing over and over and over again. I’ll have to say that I will welcome a new opening assuming they keep Save Me.

  2. Corfy says:

I say keep the theme. It wouldn’t be Smallville without it.

On the other hand, if they should happen to rename the series for some reason (after all, they haven’t spent much time actually in Smallville lately, and I seem to remember rumors about “Metropolis” being thrown around a few years back, although I think that was referring to a non-existant movie, not the series itself), then I think a theme change would probably be appropriate. But I don’t see them changing the name in the last season.

  3. Michael J. Petty says:

    “SAVE ME” ROCKS!!!!!!!
    THAT SONG NEEDS TO STAY.

  4. Woo says:

To quote Steve from the “Doomsday Redux” “If you think they need to get rid of ‘Save Me’ to open the show Smallville… screw you.” I don’t know if my fellow Microsoft Zune/Zune HD and or Apple iPod/iPhone SHoEligans remember that quote but it really rang true when I read this post. Now, I wouldn’t mind a new opening credit sequence because we’ve had the style we’ve had now for four years now. The opening shot of the meteors can stay, but I don’t know something new and special for the tenth season maybe?

  5. Michael J. Petty says:

@Woo: we’ve had the same opening for 5 years

  6. Natasha says:

I think the song should definitely stay because it’s so Smallville. Save Me is to Smallville what I’ll be there for you was to Friends. Perhaps they could tape new footage of the actors as their names come up, but the song STAYS.

  7. Tim says:

Keep the song, but update the season 5 style credits. The original style lasted 4 years, so should this one. The final season should have more superman style credits, but the MUST keep save me as the theme.

  8. Woo says:

@MJP Yes, you’re correct I was mistaken I wasn’t sure if it wasn’t five or four. @Tim This is what I’m thinking especially IF Allison will not return for a tenth year. @Natasha That’s what makes a great TV Theme like “I’ll Be There for You” or “Where Everybody Knows Your Name” (My Personal Favorite) from Cheers I echo everyone else new titles, same song.

  9. kimmie says:

I agree, the theme song stays. I do agree with Tim, they should shoot new credits/shots of the actors.

SV already has its own heroic theme playing throughout the episode (and during the ending credits) as well as it having its very own Lois and Clark love theme, all thanks to the fabulously wonderful Louis Febre so it doesn’t need to have a heroic theme in the opening credits.

  10. Rocco says:

Not as controversial as the last poll, is it?

  11. Thad says:

I think the theme song should stay, but I would probably switch it up and use the part the use in the DVD openings.

  12. MJ says:

I love the opening theme. After all of these years, it’s still such a great choice.

I wouldn’t mind new opening shots of the actors though. Erica, in particular, looks a lot different now with her darker hair. Welling continues to look more mature and it would be nice to see a recent show of him.

  13. Sherrie says:

I wouldn’t mind either way, the current is fine. But a new majestic one would be swell.
