Revisiting Old News

deathsv

This is a news post I made back at the end of October regarding who will die in Season 9 based from an interview that Kelly Souders gave to TV Guide. I think it is interesting to look back at this and see if there is anything we know now that we didn’t know then. Look at her quotes and the thing that stands out to me is the comment about people dying in the first 12 episodes. Is she referring to Pandora?  I will put the link up to the original post so you can read the comments and see what people were saying at the time this was posted.

Original post:

Kelly Souders recently gave an interview with TVguide.com, and this one will send the Smallville fans and message boards into a tizzy.

You will see more people than you can imagine die in the first 12 episodes. Luckily, it’s Smallville, so not all of them stick.

In a way that keeps us guessing, she goes on to say that these deaths will happen both in the present and in the future. Lois’ visions do play a role in the upcoming deaths and in what i believe is a very well crafted answer Kelly says:

I promise you all the people you love to watch, you will still be loving to watch in episode 18, 19, 20, 21.

What does this mean? Notice she doesn’t say ‘22′. Only time will tell, but let the speculations begin. We have been down this road in seasons past and while some deaths were predictable, others came as a true surprise. Who will it be?  Lets get the ball rolling and email your theories to mail@smallvillepodcast.com and discuss those theories with the rest of the SHoEligans at our forums.

Thanks for posting this Brian! So it looks as though this big death at the end of the season has been in the works for a while now.

By the way….I had to crack up with that picture that you used. Erica Durance’s head is on Kristen Kreuk’s body in that picture. God, you’ve gotta love the CW marketing department. They have a woman as hot as Erica Durance on their show and they can’t even find a decent picture of her with her head on her own hot body? LOL

  2. Brian says:

It is a dreadful picture, but it is the same pic from the original post. I think that photo of Chloe is from season 7 or 8.

  3. phill says:

its pretty obvious that chloe is going to die. dr. fate said “you walk the same path i do”, then he dies saving john jones, so that means that she’ll die saving clark/oliver/another “work in progress” member. my therory is; zod kills clark at the first end of a 2 parter(probably a 2 part season finale) after a BA fight, while shes crying over clarks dead body, her powers comeback and revive clark, but killing her in the process.

  4. Rocco says:

@phill – But Dr. Fate couldn’t see his own fate. He didn’t know how he was going to die. I took it as she was going to go crazy.

  5. Derek says:

I can’t stand that horrible excuse for a promo Brian; had to change it up a bit, even if it was to a depressing image. Still not as depressing as that photoshop though.

  6. Sarita says:

It’s gotta be Chloe, duh! I hate to see her go (I mean she’s Chloe for God’s sake) but who else could it be. Zod, maybe but A. Mack already said she wouldn’t come back for S10. I wish she’d change her mind though. The other possibility could be they pull a Chloe S3 or Lana S6 finale, where a major character dies and then…”SURPRISE! jk. I just faked my own death and like a total douche didn’t tell anybody b/c I thought I’d be protecting the people I love, even though I get pissed off every time Clark does the same exact thing!”

Sorry, I’m rambling. @ phil- that’s a very interesting (and friggin’ awesome) theory but I’m not so sure I’d bet money on it.

  7. Brian says:

No worries, you always are able to pick out better photos than me.

  8. Sarita says:

P.S- what’s this crap about Ausiello hinting that the SV season finale might end with someone preggers?!

  9. Tim says:

WHAT?!?!? I haven’t heard that? post the quote please!

  10. Sarita says:

    P.P.S-

OH MY FRIGGIN’ MOTHER OF ALL THINGS THAT ARE HOLY IN THIS WORLD! Rumor has it (by that I mean douchebag Ausiello) that Kristin was on the SV set in Vancouver. Please kill her off! I know that’s mean, but if the back in forth between her and Clark wasn’t bad enough…the nano-suit was the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back.

  11. Sarita says:

Been reading a bunch of spoilers. Now there’s speculation that Kristin has been spotted in set and that she may be killed off. There’s also some idiots saying the Perry or Martha might get killed off but that’s just totally bogus.

Friday needs to get here like…..NOW!

  12. Woo says:

I don’t know who will die in the finale. I wonder if this will just be a Season Finale thing on Smallville now that there is to be at least one death in the 22nd ep. because Jimmy in “Doomsday” Sounders pretty much saying someone will die in 9×22 and I feeling in the series finale next season someone is going to die as well. I despise to say it but I think it will be Chloe. Unless the Chlois fans finally get their wish after five seasons and Lois dies and Chloe becomes Lois. Not going to happen in fact I’d throw something at a computer monitor, a PMP screen or my TV set if that took place.

  13. Sarita says:

Just read the new tv guide article on SV! OH MY FRIGGIN’ HOLY CHOCOLATE STARFISH!

Let me reiterate this once again….best show ever!

    Read everyone, read!

  14. Sarita says:

Don’t even think it Woo, don’t even think it!

  15. Derek says:

    Be respectful of everyone, everyone.

  16. Lois says:

    Where did my comment go?
    once again GOODBYE CHLOE.

  17. Sarita says:

    @ Derek-

Sorry. I, like the sad loser that I am take these fictitious characters way too seriously. I’ve been watching season 2 over again and I still can’t believe this is the same show. Everyone has changed, and so have the problems. I mean back in season 2 the big drama was that Lana’s biological dad was still alive and now the main characters are concerned about stopping a world-wide invasison of alien clones who want to enslave humanity. Uber super huge leap!

  18. Tim says:

Holy $hit! I hope the lawsuit doesn’t affect this.

  19. MJ says:

Man, it still hurts to look at that picture of Jimmy doesn’t it? Poor Jimmy. ::moment of silence::

I have no idea what’s going to happen. Honestly, I think I’m just gonna sit back this year and see what happens. Last year, I was one of the people who predicted that Jimmy was going to bite the dust. (The Henry Olsen part I did NOT predict. LOL) And I sort of hated being right when it happened because up until the last second I was hoping I was wrong. So this year….I’m just going to roll with it. It’s been such an amazing season in so many ways. I’m ready to just see what they give us.

  20. Sarita says:

I’ve promised myself that I will read absolutely NO SPOILERS for the season finale. It will be pure torture and I’ll probably go crazy but I just want to be totally and utterly surprised, you know?

  21. MJ says:

Sadly, I made the mistake of actually visiting Ew.com this morning to read Ausiello’s article.

The personal attacks that continue against Erica Durance in this fandom are vile and disgusting. There is just no other way to say it. I know there are a lot of fans that don’t like Chloe right now. She has become very controversial. But I gotta be honest….I’m not seeing any personal attacks against Allison Mack out there. I personally don’t care for Chloe these days but I respect Allison and I wish her nothing but the best in her career. I know how to draw the line between character and actress. I can tell you first hand that websites like Divine Intervention will throw someone out if they start ANY personal attacks against the actors. They don’t allow that kind of behavior.

It’s just sad and pathetic. I actually had to just turn away from the website because I couldn’t bear to look at it. That woman has done NOTHING to deserve that kind of treatment. She’s done NOTHING but do her freaking job. And personally, I think she’s done a fabulous job with it. So I just want ot publicly throw my support out there for Erica Durance one more time. I think she’s an incredible Lois Lane and I think she’s remained a class act amongst fans who have treated her like dirt for years on end. I hope she knows how many fans respect her and love her. And that goes for EVERY actor or actress on the show. Tom, Erica, Allison, Justin, Cassidy, Callum….I just sent them a major shout out and Congrats on bringing us such a great show and for having to patiently put up with a fandom who can get so nasty.

This is part of why I’m just going to sit back this year and let things unfold with the finale. I just don’t want to get involved in the bashing. I can’t stand to look at it. It’s just….vile.

  22. Joanna says:

@MJ – I totally agree with what you wrote about actor-bashing– and I’m glad that I’m not the only one who notices that.
I guess it was in 2006 when I read an interview with Erica, and she was asked about her experiences with the fans and if she read what people posted on the internet about the character she was playing on Smallville. And her response was totally honest– she said that she was aware of the bashing that was going on. She sounded really forgiving, trying to understand why people disliked Lois. But the worst part of the interview was when I read that she was aware how the fans of Smallville criticized her looks, and her age (and mind you, I don’t mean “Lois’s looks and age” but Erica’s). As a fan of Lois, and the actress who plays her character – it was difficult for me to read that interview, because I thought that some people just crossed a certain line. Why so much hate? I hope that things have changed since 2006 and Erica doesn’t read any comments on the internet, because some of the comments posted by the so called “fans” of the show are really quite depressing and very immature.

  23. MJ says:

I can tell you in one short and clear sentence why some of the more vocal fans dislike Lois: She ends up with Clark. She becomes Clark’s wife. She ends up in Clark’s bed. Take your pick because that’s it in a nutshell. Clark became nothing more than a prize to be won many years ago for some of these fans. He ceased to be Superman, the star of Smallville, and became a piece of meat. Something to claim. Something to earn. Something to win. It doesn’t matter that that is not how relationships or love or sex work. It doesn’t matter that you can’t earn love nor can a person be a prize to be won. But there you have it.

Opinions make the world go round but I can honestly say that I have never read a mature post where a fan explains using ACTUAL show canon or mature reasoning why they dislike Lois. It always comes back to nasty bashing, manipulation of the actual show canon, repeating the same false statements over and over again (as if repeating them again and again will magically make them more true) and nasty personal attacks towards Erica.

I don’t know why I was surprised this morning. I blame myself for even going to Ew.com. I should have known better. I guess I just thought that at this stage in the game we could all try to get alone and remember to keep the personal attacks to a minimum and just talk about our opinions on the show based on the actual show canon. It was very disheartening and sad. I felt actual disgust and as I said…I had to leave the website.

As for the bashing of Erica’s appearance….make no mistake Joanna…the people who call her names only wish that they were even remotely as attractive as she is. The sad part is that I am pretty sure that the majority of the people who attack her looks are women. I’ve seen it way too many times even in my own life. But take some comfort in this…..truly beautiful woman…confident women….women who are successful and happy in their own skin do NOT tear other women down on message boards. They don’t feel personally threatened by other women nor do they feel the need to be so cruel. So take comfort in knowing that the people who bash her have shown their true colors and have shown the world how sad and pathetic they truly are.

It’s part of the reason why I respect Steve and Derek (and Brian!) so much. I appreciate as a fan that we can talk on here about our feelings and opinions on the show but always remember that we appreciate and support the entire cast and crew and everything that they do for us. It’s such an important distinction…and I appreciate it as a fan.

I love that we can celebrate the entire cast on this site. I may not love every character’sr actions….but i’ll stand by the entire cast until the end.

  24. Natasha says:

In terms of the topic: I noticed that the spoiler didn’t say anything about the death sticking like it did last year, unless I overlooked something. I’m pretty sure Clark and Lois are safe, but that doesn’t mean someone like, say, Oliver is as well. Something to think about.

  25. Dan Schmidt says:

Chloe telling Oliver that she doesn’t want another Doomsday scenario makes me feel that the events at the end of episode 8×22 made her lose her faith in Clark making the big Superman decisions. As a result of her loss of faith, I think Derek’s predictions about Chloe dying [tear] will be brought to fruition but Chloe’s last moments will be spent making Clark, her best friend, her brother realize that he is capable of achieving his destiny as Superman.

  26. Luke says:

If Chloe dies I’ll happily eat my hat. That has become the equivalent of the boy who cried wolf. This is the fourth freaking finale they’ve teased it in (3, 6, 8, 9). And that’s not even counting the ump-teen regular or alternate reality episodes. Ya know, it’s actually not the equivalent of the boy who cried wolf, it’s the equivalent of South Park’s Kenny. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me, fool me 63 times, I’m a moron. :P I’m not falling for it again.

That’s not to say that Chloe is staying, as she’s the only one not under contract, although I won’t believe she is actually leaving until I see it IF it happens. But IF she does actually leave, I think they have a different idea for it that doesn’t involve her death.

I’m fairly certain Zod is the death, as unless he’s de-powered he’ll have a hard time sticking around for 14 episodes or more in Season 10. Plus all they have to do is throw him in the Phantom Zone, even if dead, and actual Zod’s Phantom can simply possess and revive him ’cause that’s almost certainly the endgame for Callum’s Zod anyway.

  27. Sarita says:

Oh my god! I’m literally crying right now. I HATE CRAIG BYRNE SO MUCH RIGHT NOW! That was a nasty and heart-breaking April Fool’s joke! The stupid thing was that I actually believed him for a good minute and was halfway through calling my Smallville buddies when I relaized he had gotten me. *sighs while laughing to herself through the tears*

  28. Michael J. Petty says:

I think that General Zod will escape the Phantom Zone and posess Major Zod and then kill Chloe. I hate to say it, but I think Chloe will die this season. Zod will probably die too.
