At the risk of sounding stupid…what’s civil war? I only started listening to SHoE this past year (after Pandora) and still haven’t listened to all the previous episodes.

By thw way Steve and Derek. This is my first podcast…AND I LOVE IT!

Oh and your Hex episode…MOST HILARIOUS EPISODE EVER! You should do another Chlois bashing episode for SHoE2

  2. Natasha says:

I think Covenant is the best finale…

  3. Sarita says:

oh that’s definitely a close second. Lex dying on the floor, Chloe blowing up, Clark floating off into the abyss stark naked. You know what, switch! Favorite is Covenant, second favorite is Commencement…i think. ugh, idk! they’re both so good!

  4. Sarita says:

Question for Derek, or anyone really. D, you said that the new SV trailer has clips from Escape, Checkmate, Upgrade AND Charade. Charade? REALLY? Anyway you guys can share which clips? Maybe on the next SHoE, or right here. PLEASE?

  5. Woo says:

@Natasha you, Derek, and Mr. Hummerich agree. I don’t know if “Covenant” is the best finale ever. But it’s in my top three (so far) of season finales.

  6. Woo says:

@Sarita My three favorite series finales (at this point) are “Vessel”, “Covenant”, and “Doomsday”

  7. Superville8 says:

Top 3 season finales are VESSEL, COVENANT, COMMENCEMENT

  8. Superville8 says:

Lets HOPE that changes with SALVATION. Fingers crossed for fantastic episode and maybe a cool battle between Clark and Zod.

  9. MJ says:

Oh my gosh I’m so sorry Joe! I didn’t mean to spoil LOST for you! My bad. I always forget that some people are behind. That’s a tough show to be behind on because of all the coverage and water cooler talk for the show. Sorry!

  10. Oh, I’m pretty much hoping SALVATION blows the other finales out of the water…or comes a close second to the SERIES finale.

So, I like Vessel, and I like Commencement…just not as much as Covenant. Doomsday gets a lot of flack, but I always tell people to watch Doomsday, then Pandora, and then Savior back-to-back and you’ll gain a new appreciation for it. But, as a wrap up of the season that introduced new problems for the next season, Covenant wins…for now.

  11. kimmie says:

@Natasha It just might with the latest spoiler from Geoff Johns ;)

As for Doomsday, yeah I can watch that finale without as much venom as I had when it first aired. What’s that saying ‘hindsight is 20/20′?

Probably the finale towards the top of my list is Vessel just because of that final shot of Clark flying off into space in the PZ crystal as Earth literally goes dark. Talk about a cliffhanger. I still remember after that one aired, my mouth was hanging open for at least 10 minutes thereafter – and in a good way not like it was with Doomsday (initial viewing) ;).

  12. Woo says:

@Kimmie Yeah I see your point in comparing “Doomsday” to “Vessel” “Vessel” I couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen in “Zod” and like you my jaw was on the floor for like fifteen mins. I had a similar reaction to “Doomsday” but we all kind of knew from that Zod was going to be the main focus of the ninth season. Ironically both arcs involving Zod. Irony.

I have to say that I’m proud of my fellow Microsoft Zune/Zune HD, Apple iPod/iPhone SHoEligans over 110 comments after only a week of the post being up April can not come sooner we all should feel proud that we are this passionate about a TV Series.

  14. Woo says:

I looked at the list of episodes on the Zune Marketplace website and as of 3-21-10, I have been a SHoEligan for two years so thank you Big Honkin’ and Derek for welcoming me into the SHoE community can’t believe it has been two years and Derek I hope you do return for the tenth season.

  15. Sarita says:

I know this is totally coming out of left field but…

What if Lori Lemaris suddenly showed up on Smallville?

  16. Natasha says:

@ Sarita: Don’t take this the wrong way, but what purpose would it serve bringing Lori in?

  17. Woo says:

@Natasha I agree with Natasha, now if they brought her in last season for an arc that would have been cool. But yeah, Lori, no especially since Kal-El’s current dance partner is Lois. Now for me personally I wouldn’t mind seeing the early days of Inter-gang and Burno Mannhiem reappear in the tenth season. I, myself wouldn’t mind seeing Mr. Bibbo Bibbowski next season because I liked him in the Superman Animated Series.

  18. Natasha says:

@ Woo: I wouldn’t mind AT ALL if Bibbo made an appearence, but my love for him came from the Death of Superman books. But considering that the Ace of Clubs isn’t a dive but rather a classy joint, there’s no telling how the PTB would portray him. But I really want Maggie Sawyer and Dan Turpin to do a few more guest spots since Clark has an in with the MPD. And can we please see Clark get an article published or something. Lois isn’t the only Pulitzer winner in this damn relationship.

  19. Woo says:

Today I have watched a couple episodes from the first and second seasons. The irony of where we’ve come eight and nine years later just blows my mind. Especially the line from Jor-El to Clark in “Exodus” in the storm cellar: “These people have served their purpose (referring to Jonathan, Lana, and Martha) but you must leave them”.

This line is so interesting because none of these people are in Kal-El’s day to day life any longer. He can’t be with Lana any longer because the meteor rock in her skin.

Jonathan died trying to bring Clark back to Smallville and the stress Kryptonian powers had on his heart. (Which by the way was one of the most well crafted story arcs in the series that being Jonathan’s heart issues.) I’m still wondering from the fifth season if Jor-El choose Jonathan’s life to be taken in place of Clark’s or was Jonathan going to pass on anyway. I’ve always assumed watching the deleted scenes from season 5 that Jonathan was going to die no matter if Kal-El defied Jor-El or not. This is just my opinion.

True, Martha is still alive and will return at the end of the ninth season but she has been gone the majority of Clark’s formative years as The Man of Steel.

Ever since season 2 Clark since Jor-El was introduced Clark has always thought of himself as human. Now in the ninth season The Kandorians believe he thinks of himself as an Earthling but I’m not sure Clark identifies himself as either Kryptonian or Earthling. I mean we started off the ninth season with Kal-El being the hero, sure he and Lois are seeing each other now, but he isn’t like hanging out or relaxing when he is not around Lois. I hope before this season both Kal-El and Chloe actually acknowledge what they have been doing incorrectly. Chloe acting kind of like Lionel in Season Two and Three watching people and having these private meetings and keeping secrets from people she calls her friends like Kal-El and Ollie. And Kal-El only connecting with people who he has saved or is trying to save.

  20. Woo says:

@Natasha I don’t know how the SV writers could bring Bibbo into the series, they did well Sawyer and Turpin. As far as Clark winning a Pulitzer… What I would really like to see in the episode where Perry White returns is that we get news that Perry specifically requests that Lois and Clark be moved to the top floor. Then maybe in Season Ten we see on the Planet’s website or on the Front Page: Planet sold to “whatever company buys them from Luthorcorp” and “Perry White New Editor and Chief of The Daily Planet”. Just an idea.

  21. Sarita says:

    @ Natasha

truthfully, no purpose at all. it’s just an idea that popped into my head and i was just wondering what other people thought.

  22. Natasha says:

I guess theoretically they could bring in Steve Lombard, but I’m not in the mood for another person bitching at Clark for some reason or another.

@ Woo: I didn’t mean Clark winning a Pulitzer on the show, just the fact that we’ve only seen Lois’ headlines and none of Clark’s. His job at the DP is not just a cover no matter what Chloe says. At the very least, Lois has acknowledged that Clark has “talent” and “is doing better than anyone thought” he would. And in the comics, he’s at least a good enough journalist that someone blew up the DP trying to kill him (not knowing he’s Superman, of course). So I really want to see Clark get a byline (or three) and have it shown onscreen the way Lois’ has.

  23. Sarita says:

OH MY GOD! Just read the “Checkmate” OD on Kryptonsite and it’s freakin’ amazing!

  24. Woo says:

@Natasha True, but remember in Lois & Clark in the first season. Clark never got credit for his writing until season two. So, it may take a little while for Clark to get a by-line.

  25. Natasha says:

@Woo: Boooo!!! I don’t like that plan, lol.

  26. MJ says:

He didn’t win any awards for his writing on “Lois and Clark” until Season 2. But he shared a byline with Lois during Season 1. They’ve hinted at this several times this season (Echo, Absolute Justice)—I’d like to see them deliver on it.

  27. kimmie says:

Clark Kent the reporter is one of my Season 10 wishes – that we actually see an article written by Clark Kent and said article is printed in the actual paper, not just something pulled from the printer but an actual newspaper with a huge headline and a byline that says Clark Kent. It would be great to see the other half of the Lane/Kent team that Perry White will boast about start getting some front page stories as well. Can’t let Lane get too big for her britches.

  28. MJ says:

Kimmie, I’m with you on that. I have been thrilled with Season 9–don’t get me wrong. I know that the focus this year for Clark has been more about his “hero” side. But one of my biggest wishes for Season 10 is that we get some time devoted to Clark Kent, the reporter. Clark was such a good student when he was in school. To this day, it still bothers me that Al and Miles never allowed him to go back to college. I totally understood why he dropped out when his father died but I always thought that Clark would be the type to go back—because that’s what his father would have wanted for him. Education was important to Jonathan.

Now, I can get over the college thing because I know that Clark (and Lois for that matter) have both had other experiences that have given them more of a hard knocks education. But I would really love to see them shine the light on Clark’s writing ability. We were told back in Season 1 when he ran for Student President (that was so hilarious by the way) that he was able to write a touching speech. Remember the last scene when he starts to read his speech to Lana? In the comics and on L&C, Clark is known for being really good at those more emotional human interest pieces—the ones that Lois passes off as fluff. haha. In fact, that’s part of the hilarity of that Season 2 episode of L&C called “Wall of Sound” when Clark gets nominated for the award and Lois doesn’t. She was pissed off because he got nominated on an emotional piece that he wrote about nursing homes—something that she didn’t deem important enough to write about. She couldn’t believe that he won an award for writing about the “seering truth about old people.” haha. Great stuff.

But yes, this is one of my Season 10 wishes as well.
I’d like to see a little more time spent at the Daily Planet where Clark is working and investigating. We know he has the physical prowess—but he also has a brain. Let him use it! haha. An added bonus to this is that we get to see more of the great team of Lane and Kent and all the fun and rivalry that comes with it. That’s an important part of the Superman story and I want to see it before this show is over.

  29. Woo says:

If nothing else, I want Clark & Lois moved from the basement of The Daily Planet to the big leagues in the tenth season.

  30. @kimmie, MJ, and Woo: All of the above.

  31. Woo says:

I got this from SHoE’s Twitter: Really hoping for a cemetery scene in 9×21. It would be good for Clark and Martha to visit Jonathan. Without Braniac appearing. I wouldn’t mind seeing this. I hadn’t notice the absence of Martha since the seventh season. Todd, Darren, Kelly, and Brian did a great job in the eighth season to make us feel comfortable that while Clark is still living in his boyhood home. He is a man, a young man but albeit a man.

Brian and Kelly have continued this greatly in this season. With the picture of Lana in “Rabid” and in “Kandor” when Jor-El mentioned the events of “Relic” (which I looked up on Bing that they actually wrote, didn’t know that before) “Relic” is still one of my favorite episodes of the series. I don’t know I like the idea that Jor-El chose this family to raise his son that it wasn’t a fluke that Kal-El was found by The Kents.

Back to my original point The Kents are not as a noticeable absence as they were three or four seasons ago, but I like the fact that they are still mentioned and Lana is still mentioned. And I can’t wait for Martha’s return. I wonder if she’ll notice anything different in the house…

I can see it now Martha walks into her bedroom and sees like a rear projection HDTV, a Sony Vaio Laptop, a Blackberry Storm, a Microsoft Zune HD blasting Van Halen. And Martha will just look at Clark and he’ll say in a normal tone: “Discount Eddie’s open all night.” LOL.
