Season 10 Is A Go!

Late thursday afternoon The CW issued a press release concerning The 10th season of Smallville. Let’s get right to it, shall we?
The CW Network has announced that its hit series SMALLVILLE will return in the fall of 2010 for a momentous tenth season.
SMALLVILLE was developed for television by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar (“Shanghai Noon,” “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor”), based on the DC Comics characters. Kelly Souders & Brian Peterson serve as executive producers, along with James Marshall, Mike Tollin, Brian Robbins and Joe Davola. The series is produced by Tollin/Robbins Productions, Millar/Gough Ink and Warner Bros. Television. SUPERMAN was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.
SMALLVILLE, a modern retelling of the Superman legend, stars Tom Welling as Clark Kent. The series moved to Friday nights this season, where it currently ranks as network television’s #1 show in its time period among men 18-34 and men 18-49. Additionally, SMALLVILLE has dramatically improved The CW’s ratings performance in its Friday 8:00-9:00p.m.time period by 67% among adults 18-34 (1.5/6), 200% in men 18-34 (1.8/7), 75% in adults 18-49 (1.4/5), 183% in men 18-49 (1.7/6) and 74% in total viewers (3.12million).
SMALLVILLE joins the five previously announced series – THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, GOSSIP GIRL, 90210, SUPERNATURAL, and AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL – which will all return for another season on The CW.
This is some really fantastic news that I think we all were expecting. The suprising thing for me was how well Smallville has done in the rating after being moved to friday nights. I follow the rating results after a episode airs, but I have not seen the numbers compiled to show how well it is doing on fridays.
We would love to see how excited you are about this news by leaving a comment below. Remember, if you are on “The Twitter” pay attention on fridays because there is usually a campaign to get Smallville on the top trends. It’s been very successful this year in making that happen and The CW interacts with the fans quite a bit when the trending campaign starts. Join in on the fun!

Super excited! This totally made my day! :) I’ll have a huge void in my life when Smallville ends, but at least now I know that won’t be for at least another year :) hehehe
This was that big of a surprise. with how well the last two seasons have gone, to do a 10th one wouldn’t feel right. Mostly likely the 10th season will be the final one and if so I hope they make it a season to remember and give us an end that’ll do justice for such an incredible show.
ECSTATIC….I feel exactly the same way Renee does above ^^. Just read the news tonight, so it’s definitely made “my night”. I’ve fallen in love with Smallville again since I caught up with it back in Season 8.4 (yes, there was a void—for shame, lol). But I’m glad to say that I’m back on track because it is apparent that there are new drivers on the Smallville train steering in a good direction this Season 9. Hopeful that the journey for Season 10 will be just as great! Congratulations and good luck all around Cast & Crew! This fan thanks you from the bottom of her heart! <3
WooHoo!!!!! I was so ecstatic when I read the news. I nearly drove off the road (reading Twitter at a red light). While I was pretty much expecting this news, it was still great to read “Smallville Renewed”.
Kneel before Smallville!!!
Well with this announcement we all know what this means, Mr. Derek Russell returns to SHoE full-time. Kneel before Steve and Derek and SHoE!!!
Derek promised! STEREK! STEREK! STEREK! WHOOOOOOOOO! DARKSEID! LEX! AWESOMENESS! If this is the final season, the finale should be called “Destiny”,”Metropolis”,or “Superman” Hopefully they can nab McKean and O’Toole for more episodes next season. The only thing that go wrong is if Chloe dies, I know Allison plans on leaving, but I hope Chloe gets to walk off into the sunset.
YEAHHHHHHHH I LOVE GOOD NEWS
I am glad we know one way or another. For a while it felt like back at the end of season4 when we didnt know when the finale aired. Anyway, I hope they do wrap it up with the tenth season. If they from beginning to end it will be it, then they can give us some really cool arcs to lead way to the big finale.
If they dont say 10 is the final season…Im not watching anymore. Its almost sad because instead of being excited that the end is near …im relieved. Too bad
Awesome news!! Season 10 FTW!! This will be EPIC!
FANTASTIC!! After this year’s incredible success, I’m glad to hear we will see a continuation of the story.
iam hopeing for Kara Lex Flight Martha in season 10.
Yes! Yes! Yes! This is awesome news, this just made my night @Natasha, @MJ Your thoughts, please.
The only thing that could top this news for me Miss Mack signed on for the tenth season.
So the next announcement is the Mike Rosenbaum is coming back right???

I saw this when you posted it yesterday & I couldn’t have asked for better news on my birthday … Well except maybe winning the lottery. =o)
Yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!

Omg! It is about time that they announced this. I was really begining to wonder if this was going to be the last season. Great way to begin an already great Friday!
hell yea. now all i need is an announcement that the first 5 seasons are going blu in a boxed set. too bad we have to wait 4 more weeks for another episode
AWESOME NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so happy that CW renewed Smallville for a 10th and possibly final season! I hope they wrap it up in style and Clark can finally fly! =)
This is awesome We shall get to See Clark turn Into The Superman i think this is the Greatest Show Ever being following Smallville Since season 1 but season 9 has been the Greatest the story Line Seems to Get better in every Episode Season 10 i bet is going to be mind Blowing

3. Lex and Perry as regulars

Now that’s out of the way…
ohpleaseohpleaseohplease Michael Rosenbaum come back!!
This is such wonderful news. I am so glad that we can finally breath a sigh of relief! As much as I adore this show and as much as I selfishly wish it could last forever..I do hope that they take the opportunity to market this season as the LAST season from the get go. I think we would all love to keep watching this show but I do think we’ve reached the point where it’s time to bring Clark forward. He should be Superman in full by the end of the 10th season. Any longer than that and it would be serious stalling. I hope the network knows this and accepts this going in. This show deserves to go out on a high note with it’s final season being promoted as such all year long.
What do I want to see in the 10th season?
I want to see Clark Kent as the star of the show. I think Season 9 has been an improvement in this regard. As much as I enjoyed parts of Season 8, there were times in the second half of the season where the story wasn’t revolving around Clark. That simply can’t happen anymore. “Disciple” is a great example of an Ollie centric episode that still showed Clark Kent as the hero with Zod. “Idol” is another great example of an episode that gave Lois a ton of screentime BUT revolved around Clark. He was still the center of the episode and everything revolved around him. This final season has to show us Clark’s POV as much as possible. His development and his relationships need to be the most important in order to conclude this journey right.
I love Justin Hartley and I love Ollie. But from this point forward, I want to see Ollie as a sidekick hero. I freaking love the guy. But he needs to remain a supporting character from here on out.
Lois Lane is arguably the second most important person in the Superman story. (The only one who probably comes close in importance is Lex and I’ll get to him in a second.) At the end of this season, Erica D. will have logged almost as many seasons with this show as Michael Rosenbaum. (Michael was absent from Seasons 8 and 9, Erica was absent from 1,2 and 3.) She has put her time in with this show and she has remained patient throughout the years while other characters have had their time n the spotlight. She was out there promoting the show when no one else was. At this stage in Clark’s journey, she deserves second billing on this show next year. Now, I don’t mean that as a slight towards Allison Mack. I respect Allison immensely and I respect the legacy that she’s built on this show. It really comes down to what is right for the plot of a Superman show. The leading lady of a show about Superman needs to be Lois Lane. Period. End of story. People that don’t agree with that probably need to find another superhero to invest their time in because this is NEVER going to change. I don’t care if it’s comics, movies, animated series or tv shows. Yes, this is “Smallvillle” but we’re in Superman territory now which means that Lois should be in 22 episodes and she deserves second billing after Clark.
I have always like Allison Mack. I havn’t cared for Chloe’s character for the past few seasons but that doesn’t mean I don’t respect Allison and what she’s brought to the show. But, I wouldn’t be sad if she didn’t come back next season. I think Chloe has served a role in Clark’s life but I think her role is done and it’s time for them both to grow up and move on. I would be open to Chloe being in a limited number of episodes for Season 10 as the friend/sidekick….but I don’t thinks he has a place in all 22 episodes. At this stage in the journey, the priority needs to be Clark. Allison Mack isn’t cheap. I’m sure it would cost a fortune to get her back and I just don’t know if that would be wise. The show needs that money to make sure that Clark’s journey can be given the attention it deserves in the final season. My hope is that we see Chloe sporadically throughout Season 10 but I don’t think she belongs as a series regular anymore. I know some people might be upset by that comment but that’s how I feel.
I’d like to see Michael R. come back for a limited number of episodes. I don’t think he needs to be there all season. But a limited number of episodes would be a great way to set -up his epic villian destiny with Clark, fill us in on where he’s been and allow him to take over Luthorcorp once and for all.
I’d like to see Cassidy Freeman back. I’d love to see her work with Lex. I think they would place nicely off each other.
I’d like to see Martha Kent and Perry White both make a few appearances throughout the season. I doubt the show could convince them to do a whole season but a few episodes might be feasible and would be very appropriate. I also wouldn’t mind seeing Michael Ironside back as General Lane for a few episodes.
It would also be great to see return appearances by the rest of the Justice League, J’onn Jones and Emil. There’s your supporting cast rotating in and out throughout the year.
I’d like to see the show focus on Clark’s career as as journalist, his relationship with Lois and his growing understanding and realization that he needs to come out of the shadows and show people his face. I’d like to see him show the audience that he’s pondering the idea of becoming a more public and visible hero among the people. If Clark remains the focus in all ways this show will end on a strong note. That’s just my humble opinion, though.
I honestly screamed out loud at my place of business when I first heard this wonderful news. I am so looking forward to season 10 and the many surprised that i’m sure we’ll get during this season. Maybe Michael Rosenbaum? Maybe Perry White as a regular cast member? Who knows, but I’m just so darn excited!
I would like to see Some New Gods brought in, Orion, Mr. Miracle, Lightray, all to help Clark defeat the likes of Kanto, Kalibak, and Granny Goodness and the female furies, all leading up to a midseason finale with somebody being obliterated by the omega beams, and Darkseid walks out of the shadows. THAT would be the most epic mid-season finale to hold us over since “Your secret’s safe with me… Kal-E”. What else would people like to see in season 10?
oh I almost forgot! I’d like to add EPIC DEATH to my list. Will Chloe be killed off or just eventually leave? What about Derek’s “Tess getting shot in the head by Lex” idea? I’d crap my friggin’ pants!
Ooooooo, what do you think will happen in the 200th episode?!
To answer your question Sarita, I believe in the 200th episode we will see (my answer is in sing-song) Darkseid! OR (I know this won’t happen) certain appearances from a certain Dark Knight and a certain Amazon Princess.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
I know Batman is a no-go but now that the Wonder Woman movie idea went down the crapper can they bring her back for one epoisode? Pleeeeeeeeeease?
Steve! Derek! Be my guardian angels, make it happen!
Season 10 episode idea: “Sanction”
Darkseid sends Clark traveling through alternate realities. Sure, it’s kinda been done before but how EPIC would that be?!
OR
Darkseid is the one who brings back Lex with his life creation powers. Why would he do this? Who the frick cares?! Let the writers figure it out.
Okay, I’m getting a bit ahead of myself but I’m super pumped now!
Season 10? Darkseid? BRING IT ON!
Here is my theory. I think it they bring Lex back next season (fingers crossed for both) they should cameo him in the finale killing Chloe. Kinda of like Zod appeared in the final seconds last season. The story should be Chloe investigating something but the audience does not know Then the final scene is her walking into a room being shocked and then shot dead. Then you pan around to the smoking gun and it is Lex holding it. Season finale cliffhanger. She has been rarely seen this season and it could turn out she was investigating a lead that he might still be alive but Lex could not let that get out so he kills her. It would really solidify Clarks hatred of Lex discovering who killed Chloe which could be part of next seasons story arc.
@ Superville8
OH MY GOD! That’s even better than him killing Tess! Not that I want Chloe to die, she’s my second favorite character. I meant in the whole WOW factor. Actually I think if this were to happen it would be better if it happened in the 200th episode. Chloe has been such an important character and there will be so much going on in the season finale that just killing her off on a whimsy would not do her any justice.
I love Chloe too, now i am not one of these weird NOCHLOENOSMALLVILLE people, but AM said she was leaving at the end of this season and I think she knows way too much to get out alive. So I think the best way for her to die is death by Clarks worst enemy. Better Lex than some other character. I think she deserves a Lex Luthor murder.
@ MJ, I love you. Completely agree about S10 being about Clark even when it’s not (re: Disciple, Idol). Completely agree about Erica getting second billing.
And Woo, yes count me among the excited. I knew it would happen, but really I was just hoping that getting my tickets to Comic Con wasn’t an exercise in futility. Let’s hope Tom’s good experience last year will prompt him to be present this year.
These last two seasons have been so wonderful that it needs to go out on a TENTH season. Now can they please let Clark fly? At the very least I’m going to ask the producers at SDCC to STOP letting other people fly if Clark isn’t going to.
The people that have flow like Kara, Zod and Brainiac are full Kryptonian they are aliens unlike Clark who growing up on Earth has those limitations. They don’t have they earthly humanity built into them from years growing up here and until he can find a balance between the two he can not fly.
HELL TO THE YEAH
@MJ and Natasha – once again in total agreement ;).
As for what I want to see in Season 10 – FLIGHT!!!!! Of course that’s a given – a more “colorful” costume for Clark, glasses, more of Dr. Emil Hamilton and Martian Manhunter.
Clark as the Reporter where we see his first front page article published. The other half of Lane & Kent that Perry will boast about needs to get his butt in gear. Can’t let Lane get too far ahead :P.
If they keep up these great episodes Season 10 will be totally alsome. The 200th will have to be something exceptional.
I wonder where the 200th episode will land someone do the math please?
This may or may not be something people want to see, but what do my fellow SHoEligans think for maybe an episode. Clark and Chloe return to Smallville High? I mean it would only be an episode and I know Buffy’s last season had the high school return, but it wouldn’t be like a season long story arc, it would just be a nice call back seeing that this is the last season.
@Woo the 200th episode I believe will be 10.4.
As for returning to Smallville High, while I would not be so incredibly thrilled about that premise, I could see it as the vehicle to do a true throwback to the early days of SV – honoring the freak of the week episode. I believe Clark and if Chloe is still around will have been out of high school for 5 years so the excuse to have them walk the halls of the high school (hearing Steve singing in my head right now) again would be a 5 year class-like reunion. Yes, I can see a person from Clark and Chloe’s class infected by kryptonite wanting to exact revenge on all the classmates that did him/her wrong and sets up this little mini reunion to bring them all together and take of the offenders in one fell swoop.
10×04
I felt like a heavy load I did not even know I had was lifted off my shoulders when I heard the news about S10! I was always quietly confident, but it was so nice to see confirmation!
Now I can plan my year:
March… Hiatus, April-May new eps..May-September long hiatus
: (..September S9 on dvd PLUS premiere of S10! Sept-Nov/Dec new eps!
Awesome. This is the best news I have heard all week. I was starting to get a little worried that this wasn’t going to happen. I do hope this is the last season though. Ten years is enough training. It’s time to suit up and get this Superman off the ground.
As for what I want in the season…
I would like for the Zod / Kandor thing to be wrapped up this season so we can start fresh with the 10th. I would love for Lex to return to wrap up the series but if that doesn’t happen then I’m up for anything new.
The thought of returning to Smallville is a good one for an episode but not for a whole season. Taking a step back isn’t a smart thing to do in what could be the last season of the series.
I’m a pretty big Chloe fan but I’m ok with her leaving the show after season 9 if they are going to keep writing her as they have been this year. I’m also fine with Green Arrow leaving as well. He needs his own spin off anyway. Something to fill the void of Smallville when it leaves after season 10…
No Lana. We don’t need her to pop up and we don’t want her to. We need more Lois. Again… why would we want to take a step back?
Mostly I just want to see some of the folks from the past show up again is some form or another. Perry, Martha, JLA, JSA, Metallo, Lex, Kara, etc. A dream sequence or time travel thing with Jonathan Kent would be awesome as well.
All in all… I’m just looking for a good fun season like the last two we’ve had. I’m surprised that there has been so much life pumped into a ten year old show so late in the game but I am digging it.
Hmmm. Episode 10×04 seeing that is kind of early in the season I would only assume it wouldn’t be a big episode, but that would be a good place to go back to Smallville High like Kimmie said have like an old school freak of the week type episode or maybe have Pete Ross show up as Smallville High’s new football coach. Anyway, I think we need an episode is to say “look how far we’ve come.” Come to think of it, if Allison will return for a tenth season… How cool would it be to see The Torch again?
As much as that would be nice, I don’t think Sammy Jones III will be able to return anytime soon… Does anyone know whatever happened with that?
