SHoE: Episode 143 – “Persuasion”

This week Derek and Media Junkyard co-host Robin (aka the boy wonder) bring you a look at what Kandorians do on their day off, in ‘Persuasion’. There is a LOT to talk about in this one and judging by the clock, only a few hours in which to do so before ‘Conspiracy’ airs, so get listening! We talk about the episode in detail as well as our hopes and fears for season 10 of Smallville.

First of all, funniest episode of Starkville House of El, ever in my opinion. I wrote this on Robin’s Twitter, I’m glad I listened to this episode on iTunes on my iMac because and Steve you already know this, but for those who don’t know.

I have Cerebral Palsy and need to use an electric wheelchair and I almost always listen to SHoE when I’m in my wheelchair whether it was back in the day on my 80 GB Black Microsoft Zune/my 120 GB Red Microsoft Zune or currently on my Apple iPod Classic or my Apple iPhone I always listen to SHoE. The jokes in this episode and the comments that were made. If I was in my wheelchair, I would’ve lost control of my wheelchair and rammed into a wall from laughing so hard! Lol. Robin and Derek you guys have great chemistry. Derek, you haven’t lost the knack for podcasting sir, this is the funniest you’ve ever been.

Until you guys mentioned The Towers possibly being a WTC thing, I never made that connection. I just thought it was a classic Superman moment because doesn’t he do that to The Fortress in one of the cuts in Superman II? I’m not sure if it is The Donner Cut or The Lester Cut?

I’ve posted this on Facebook and even threw this idea Prof. Bailey’s way. It’s going off on Derek’s who murdered Tess Mercer… What if in 9-22 we see someone holding Green Arrow’s crossbow or some kind of bow and it shoots Tess. And we are never answered who did it. We just assume it’s Ollie who shot Tess with an arrow… but then in Season Ten we find out Lex has leaked it to The Daily Planet that Oliver Queen is either The Green Arrow or payed Green Arrow off as an assassin to murder Tess. This way Lex kills “two birds with one stone or with one arrow” Frame the guy that “murdered” you and shoot the person with an arrow that betrayed you; somewhere along the way in Season Ten of course we find that Lex shot Tess with an arrow and murdered her, similar to Derek’s way for Lex to return. What do my fellow SHoEligans think of my scenario?

“Who is this guy? this is not Big Honkin?”
    Very funny guys! LOL
it’s a long time where I had tears in my eyes from laughing just listening to your guys introduction. Come on, Derek everybody loves ya!

Wonders over wonders, I never imagined I would listen to a debate about the differences between a “podcast whore” and a “podcast slut”. How do you guys come up with this stuff? :D

  4. Sarita says:

Right before the Blur took down the towers, i expected a super-speed blur punchin’ holes in the building, swiss cheese style, until collapse. Heat vision would imply arson and insurance doesnt’ cover acts of arson so R.A.O. had to take that loss in the shorts.

  7. Ray says:

OMG LMAO this was the funniset episode ever , i literally was in the subway listening to he podcast on my Ipod when the part about, “i wonder what he was thinking about when he brought down the towers , I heard tess stood infront of zod in the bathtub” came up i had to hold in my laugh so hard so people didn’t think i was a jackass lol

  8. phill says:

great job derek, nice to hear your voice once in a while.

also just wanted to let everyone know season 8 bluray is 27.99 on amazon right now

  9. Natasha says:

Great job Derek. It’s nice to know I wasn’t the only one that didn’t immediately think “twin towers” when Clark brought them down. All I was thinking was “Clark is such a BAD ASS!” while my mouth was hanging wide open. (That’s what she said.)

  10. Dave-o says:

Sorry, Derek, I’m going to have to disagree re: the towers. At first, i was like, “Wow, this is a really badass sequence.” Then after cutting back to Clark, the shot cut back to the towers as one began falling, and I said, “Oh… wow. Ugh.” It was a bit of a gut-punch. I wasn’t deeply emotionally scarred, but I immediately thought, “Ooof. Bad form, Smallville.”

I showed the clip, with minimal set-up, to a non-viewer/fan. She had a similar reaction.

Enjoyed the rest of the SHoE episode, loved hearing your take on the Lois and Clark stuff. But I stand by my gut-feeling on this issue. I wish it had been done differently. Were I an SV writer, I would have made the Ian Malcolm argument (”could we” vs. “SHOULD we”).

Thanks, and keep up the good work–fo rizzle.
