I freaked when I saw Lois in the “Mrs. Clever” dress. It has been well established in DC/Superman Canon in the Animated Series’, Films, Comics, and live action TV Series’ that one of Lois’ worst nightmares is becoming the “stay at home” housewife. This is going to be a fun episode. Side note: I don’t know if Lois was cutting that Roast Beef like she was, because it was overdone or if she was really over-joyed about making Kal-El dinner. Either way, if it was over-done I love the idea no matter what “state” Lois is in, she can’t cook if her Def Leppard Anthology depended on it.

WOW… If Clark goes along with this Lois will seriously kick his ass. If it’s like “Crimson” and she doesn’t remember her personality change, he could even date-rape her using blue kryptonite! I hope Lois moves in with him, but If Clark takes advantage of her with all this I’ll be pissed.

  3. MJ says:

Tim, the word “rape” and Clark Kent don’t belong in the same sentence. He would NEVER take advantage of her like that. That was firmly in place even in “Crismon” because you might remember that when she showed up at the farmhouse with the CD and hit on him…there was a moment where Clark seemed to be enjoying it (which didn’t surprise me because it seemed clear after the kiss in “Hydro” that Clark was hiding/supressing some attraction to Lois and this episode just confirmed it)….and then he caught himself and sped out of there because he knew something was wrong with her.

I don’t think we have to worry about Clark taking advantage of her. He loves her. BUT—I wouldn’t be surprised if there are moments where we see that Clark likes Lois being so attentive and allowing him to be more traditional.

My guess is that by the end of this episode the two of them are going to meet in the middle. Clark is probably going to realize that he loves Lois just the way she is (which as Woo confirmed is the complete opposite of the housewife) and that “traditional” for the might mean something different but it won’t matter because they love each other. Lois might realize that it’s OK to let Clark help her every once and a while (remember we’ve already had Clark complaining in “Disciple” that she wouldn’t let him help her with her coat or touch him in public) and she might realize there is a happy medium where she can let a man in and still remain strong and independent.

The episode looks hilarious and it’s an interesting idea to have it air 3 years after Crimson with another V-day themed episode.

It’s been confirmed in the comics that Clark does most of the cooking and cleaning. But don’t forget that Lois can one make one thing well. She knows how to make beef bourguignon. I seem to remember an older silver age comic where Clark forgot he was Superman and so he felt free to go after Lois as Clark. She cooked for him and then they spent the night together.

I know OUR Clark would never do that, but remember how we got Jason in Superman Returns? This looks to be another great episode though. Wat did everyone think of the Chlollie Moment at the end of Warrior, do you think we will see that relationship start to form. I like how they show Ollie as what he is, a playboy, but he never acts that way around Chloe ( Speaking of Ollie’s love life, Also, why didn’t the Dark Archer abduct Tess or Dinah instead of Lois? He says Lois was the last girl he really cared for, but we saw him with Tess last season and there have been some subtle nods to him and canary. To my first point however, We know Dax-Ur had a son while on blue K, so IS it possible Clark could use it to mess around with Lois? hmm… Maybe we will see some of Lois visions come true, even after Clark defeats Zod.)

  5. MJ says:

Tim, Jason in Superman Returns was NOT conceived through rape. Jason was a product of a consensual sexual experience between Lois Lane and Superman. Superman Returns was based in part upon what happened after Superman II. Now, don’t get me started on all the problems with the continuity of this because it was a mess. At the end of Superman II, Clark removes Lois’ memories of their night together becuase he’s trying to ease her pain and grief. She’s so grief stricken that they can’t be together and that’s why he does it—to make it easier for her. But make no mistake, the sex that occurred between them was consensual. He did not rape her. The idea that he removed her memories IS controversial just as it’s kind of controversial that Smallville’s Clark Kent is now walking around with the memory and knowledge of having sex with Lois in “Pandora” and yet Lois’ memory of it was wiped. ::sigh::

Second, Clark does not need Blue K to have sex with Lois Lane. He is able to be with her fully powered without Blue K. That is canon. Smallville hasn’t gotten there yet but I’m POSITIVE that they will before the show is over if for no other reason than they can’t leave things the way they have been where Clark is convinced that he’ll kill someone if they make love. In the modern comics Clark is fully able to have sex with his wife without any problem. This was confirmed on “Lois and Clark” as well.

  6. Tim says:

While Superman never raped her technically, he tried to break up Lois’ new relationship that had a child involved and stalked her by spying on her familu with his x-ray vision. Superman Returns did not build on the Christopher Reeve movies, it took a giant crap on them. we all are entitled to our opinions, to each his own

I’ve had this final scene in my head for years. Now seems like the appropriate time to throw it out here. The details leading up to this scene are as follows:

(The Red Blue Blur makes his return and begins saving people throughout Metropolis. The Daily Planet naturally goes nuts. Unfortunately Lois has broken it off with Clark because of the distance his secret has caused between them. This scene is basically the introduction of the Suit and Clark’s apology to Lois. I do not have an explanation for where the Suit comes from…yet)

    Enjoy!

    At the Daily Planet…

Clark tells Lois to meet him on the roof.

Lois arrives on the roof. Clark stands on the ledge, in the suit we all know and love.

Clark: “I’ve wanted to tell you for so long.”

    Lois is stunned.

    Lois: “Something…inside of me…has known…all this time.”

    Clark: “Lois…”

Lois approaches him. Clark stares into her eyes as she examines his new suit.

    Clark: “I love you.”

Lois: “I love you Clark Kent.”

They kiss. It echoes the first true kiss they had.

Clark: “I wanted you to have the first interview.”

Lois smiles. Her professionalism takes over.

Lois: “Well…It’s good to see the blur back in his red and blue…although… I think maybe it’s time for a new alias. Any thoughts?”

Clark: “You could always call me Clark.”

Lois snarls at the idea. She examines his chest.

Lois: “I’ve always wondered…what does the “S” stand for?”

Clark: “This? Actually, it’s a family crest from Krypton which I’ve been meaning to get to, you see I’m—”

    Lois: “SUPERMAN.”

    They smile.

Clark: “I think I like your old name for me better…”

    Lois: “Clark?”

    Clark: “Not Clark…”

He grabs Lois closer and looks up into the sky.

    Clark: “Smallville.”

Superman flies off high into the sky with Lois Lane in his arms.

    END

  8. Tim says:

I always thought looking up or a shirt-rip showing the crest, but…perfect.

  9. AbOs says:

Oh my God!!! That would be a so much AMAZING ending to the series!!! It gave me chills!!! Aside from the one Steve once told in one podcast, this one would be AWESOME too.

  10. Superville8 says:

Mike that scene sounds amazing and I love how you worked in the title of the show so easy into the conversation it didn’t seem forced at all it just fit perfectly.

  11. Mike says:

Thanks guys, I just really feel like Smallville should have a large part to do with the series finale. There’s so much action taking place in Metropolis these days that it would be refreshing to look back on the strange town that started it all.

  12. Woo says:

It’s interesting to me as I re-watch this trailer… (and I was thinking about this earlier) that at the beginning of Season Seven, what Lois is doing in the trailer being “the perfect live in lover” was the life that Kal-El wanted with Lana. If one were to go back and watch the first few episodes of the seventh season, that is exactly what Lana was doing. Making Sunday Brunch, helping Kal-El with farm chores, and just being a semi-normal couple. Now, don’t get me wrong, Kristen Kruek’s my girl and I love Lana and Clana. But Kal-El’s look of discomfort really shows that he loved Lana for being the sweet attentive woman. Lois on the other hand, it is not a good color on her. Like Lois said in “Instinct.” If I may use a Häagen-Dazs analogy Lana: Sweet Vanilla. Lois: Wild Cherry. Two great flavors. Just completely different.

  13. Superville8 says:

I think it is going to be like Hex was last season. Where Clark thinks he wants something like being a normal reporter(HEX) but once he gets to see what its like he will want what he had back. He thinks he wants Lois to be the perfect homemaker but he will see he loves her because of who she already is. Also Tim first think is that in “Crimson” he couldn’t of really been held accountable for his actions if he had taken advantage of her because they were both on Red K. Non Red K Clark would never do that and I get what you are saying about taking advantage of her in this episode, I really do not think anything is going to happen, but anything that did if it happened before he figured it out I think would be fine because he did not know but after yes Clark would not do that he would leave like he did in Crimson when she gave him the CD. Although he would probably figure it out right away with her cooking in that homemaker dress.

  14. Ian Aderholt says:

Going back to Mike’s great final scene. How would they fit Clark’s secret identity into that? Everybody knows what clark’s face looks like without glasses so they would figure out that clark was indeed superman.

  15. AbOs says:

Also, I think that they don’t have to show the complete suit in that scene, if they’re still sticking to the “no tights” or Mr. Welling refusing to use the suit, they could only show the cape in a shot showing Lois entering to the roof and Superman’s back cape, then they could use close up’s of Welling’s face so they never show the suit.

  16. Mike says:

I’m 100% sure they will pay Welling enough to wear the suit for one shoot day.

  17. Natasha says:

@ Superville8: I think you’ll be surprised by what Clark actually means by “traditional” couple. I don’t think he means “stay-at-home wife” at all, but rather that he wishes that he and Lois did the types of things regular couples do, i.e. hold hands (re: Disciple), go on dates in the same car (re: Echo, Disciple), PDA without counting them, etc. Pretty much, Clark probably wants to close the literal and emotional distance between them so they can actually act like they’re in a relationship. However, Lois interprets it as “June Cleaver” because this is Lois and because of the “fairy dust”.

Anyway, after seeing that webclip of Lois, I’m extra excited for Friday to come, which is par for the course this season.
