steve is so funny he can be over the top in a good way though. i love the little nods in the tv movie. i love the Hawkgirl or is it Hawkwoman anyway i loved that and i loved how we saw MM true form that was cool DR Faith was the best. i do agree Clark should put more color in his blur suit. iam hopeing they bring back Kara someday she is missed on the show in my opion at least. and from interviews it seems Laura would be so up to return to smallville she loves the show and the charater. so hopefully her and the producers can work something out iam keeping my fingers crossed.

Great Show guys it was great. Geoff Johns is a comic book genius. That was just probably one of the best if not the best episode of Smallville ever. I loved the live show guys. It would of been great though if Steve could of been with you instead of that smug snuggie guy from the phantom zone. Steve was there for a second at the beginning and the middle but that snuggie guy just kept coming back.LOL. Also you were talking about the internet cafe under watchtower. That was a different building. Fingers crossed that news of season 10 are true. Wish they would bring Johns back for more eps this season or next. He is just a fantastic writer.

“Jack frost nipping at your toes” – Steve Glosson (Absolute Justice Live Show)

  12. Superville8 says:

The episode also noted Black Canary trained by a former heavyweight boxing champion and Aquaman being atlantean. Both in Pemberton’s book.

  13. martian says:

    @ Superville8 It did? When?

  14. Superville8 says:

when they flip to the pages on black canary and aquaman in the car they say it in the bottom left corner of canary page and upper left side of aquaman page.

  15. MJ says:

    Hey guys,

Great podcast. Wish I could have seen it LIVE but I’m so glad that you guys got such a great turnout. That’s awesome.

I cracked up at Steve in the Snuggie. I love that Steve embraces his inner geekiness. I can think of a few geeks that I know that would love that Superman snuggie. haha. Steve, as soon as I saw the picture of Erica Durance dressed as the stormtrooper I thought of you. Lois is made of win. Who wouldn’t love that girl?

I agree with a lot of what you said so I’m just gonna post a few responses to some of the things that I disagree with a bit.

Per your discussion about “filler” episodes….maybe it’s the English background in me but as long as an episode has character development and moves the internal feelings and emotions of our core characters forward then I don’t really consider any episode to be “filler.” Some of the BEST character development in this series has taken place during episodes that are not heavy on action or special effects. So I sort of take issue with the phrase “filler” because without those filler episodes our characters wouldn’t be nearly as strong.

It’s the same way I feel about relationships on this show and it’s why I HATE HATE with a passion the idea that anyone who really likes relationships on this show must be a “shipper.” Yes, there are some fans whose sole reason for watching the show is because of the relationships . But then there are fans like myself who LOVE the relationships because I’m a huge Superman fan and to me, it’s the relationships that Clark has with the people around him that make his journey worth it. They give him something to live for and something to fight for. And I think that was a real THEME of ABsolute Justice. Clark’s convo with Hawkman at the end and all of the talk about family and wives and knowing what really matters and who you are fighting for. So, for me, I appreciate when we really get attention paid to what makes Clark the man he is and why he loves the people he loves.

Just for the record…I don’t think there will be wedding to end this show. I wouldn’t mind seeing a proposal though. For me it’s less about a wedding and more about the audience knowing that Clark will not be alone. That has been a major theme of this show since day #1 and clark’s biggest fear. As long as the show tells me as the viewer that Clark KNOWS he won’t be alone and that he’ll have her with him and they will be together for the rest of their lives….then I’ll consider that satisfactory. I don’t need to see a wedding. I just need to know that Clark is going to be happy and that Lois will be with him forever because this show has been hinting at that since the first episode….that he doesn’t want to be alone.

  16. Marc says:

Steve, where did you get that Snuggie. I’ve got to get one!

In regards to the Apocalypse reference, I follow Geoff Johns on Twitter. Someone had asked him if the word Apocalypse was spelled Apokolips in the script. His response was “With a capital A”. So interpret that as you will.

Do you think Smallville will address the mother/daughter Black Canary story in a future episode or will it get swept under the rug?

What did you guys think of having an actor with dark hair portraying Alan Scott when he’s always been blonde in the comics?

When Clark and Chloe were looking at the JSA footage, I had to look up who Abigail Hunkel was on Wikipedia. Did you guys know she was the Golden Age Red Tornado?

In regards to what DC characters I would like to see Geoff tackle next, I would love to see Teen Titans or Young Justice as far as teams go. Individual characters, I wouldn’t mind seeing some other JSA members like Power Girl (I know, Earth 2), Huntress, Red Tornado, or Captain Marvel (Shazam) even it was just as Billy Batson.

Can someone post the link to the pic of Erica Durance dressed as a Stormtrooper?

  17. Natasha says:

Ma Hunkle? Yes, knew she was Red Tornado. That’s part of the beauty of reading The Next Age.

I think I geeked out the most at the Michael Holt
    reference by Lois.

  18. Marc says:

Agreed Natasha, that was cool. So many geek out moments!

  19. Superville8 says:

Alan Scott was blond in the episode. At the most it was a dirty blond that did not show up good on black and white film but when the show him in the jail cell when they replay the montage in color you can see his hair is blond. Also the police file on him states his hair is blond.

I really enjoyed the podcast. Steve in the snuggie might be one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen. I really love Steve’s jovial personality. You guys really crack me up. I really enjoyed the 2 hour event. I didn’t think it was overhyped. It wasn’t perfect but it was really really enjoyable and I thought the entire cast was used very well during those 2 hours.

One thing I have to say though as one of your long time listeners and I really hope you take this to heart…

Steve, I know it’s really difficult but you need to stop taking it so personally when some of this small group of so called “fans” (and I put that in quotes because I don’t believe that these people are actually true fans of the show or Allison Mack at all) attack you about Chloe. ANYONE who actually listens to your show knows that you guys support this entire cast and that you love Chloe. You do not need to defend yourself against that. You have been very clear about the fact that you love Chloe and no one that actually listens to your podcasts could think otherwise. You need to understand something….these people are angry and consider you to be against them BECAUSE you also like Lois and Erica Durance. That’s it. It doesn’t matter that you love Chloe. It won’t matter how many times you remind them that you love Chloe. You like Lois which means that you are the enemy and you must be against them. They can’t comprehend that there are those of us that really love and support this entire ensemble. It doesn’t matter how many times you make logical arguments or talk about why you feel a certain way. These “fans” are so deluded that they can’t even look at the show objectively anymore. They hate Erica…and they hate Tom now too. All they’ve done is criticize him this entire year saying how terrible he is and how all he cares about is money. These crazies (And yes, I do believe that anyone who acts that nasty about a fictional character is crazy) don’t like ANYONE who likes Erica and they take pleasure in treating Erica like shit. (Erica recently did a really nice interview with TVguide and within 5 minutes there were tons of posts calling her as an actress personal and nasty names. It got so bad that the website mods had to clear some of it. Do you understand?)

I know it’s really hard not to respond to this kind of thing time and again because you guys work so hard and so I imagine it’s really insulting when people try and twist your words and attack you. I totally understand and I absolutely understand why you feel the need to clarify your feelings and defend yourself. But I think you need to try and let it go and just ignore it from now on. I love this entire cast and that includes Chloe. I consider myself a fan of everyone on this show. But I do NOT associate with those people. Because the bottom line is that anyone who is capable of being so nasty is NOT a true fan of this show and is absolutely NOT a fan of Allison Mack. And I defy anyone who calls themselves a fan of Allison Mack to justify their disgusting behavior. A true fan would NEVER act like that.

Anyway…sorry for the sidebar but I couldn’t help but comment after listening to you address this again on your live podcast after the event. I know you are just trying to clear the air but you dont have to. Your true fans KNOW where your feelings lie about this. We know that you love and support this entire cast and that you support Allison. And personally, I really appreciate it that you have gone to bat for Erica so many times. She deserves it after how she’s been treated. My advice would be to ignore the rest of it from now on. You’re better than them and they don’t deserve your attention.

  21. Natasha says:

    @ Kathleen…WORD.

  22. Tyson says:

Totally agree with Kathleen! Those “Chloe fans” on Twitter, the crazy ones who spam the writers and bash Erica, are just nuts. I’m a huge Chloe fans but never would I insult any of the actors/actresses or anything they do. They’re definitely giving Chloe fans a bad name but I wish people would realize those ‘fans’ are just nuts.

  23. Kathleen says:

Thanks guys. I just felt like it needed to be said after I listened to the live show. The only reason I brought it up was because I think Steve is a really nice guy and he’s always trying to be a peacemaker. And I really really respect that. I totally understand why it would be upsetting to him that people keep trying to twist his words and come at him. He’s trying to set the record straight. I just wanted him to know that he doesn’t need to set the record straight because anyone who takes the time to listen to him KNOWS where he stands on all this stuff and knows that he supports this entire cast. Sadly, I think he’s wasting his breath trying to make peace with some of these people. We’re talking abouta very small (but very vocal :sigh:) group of “fans” who base their entire enjoyment and hatred of the show on their obsession with one character and their extreme hatred for another. There’s just no other way to put it at this point. This show stopped being about Clark’s journey to being Superman a long long time ago for them. Look….we all have moments where we have our favorite characaters. That’s normal. I know plenty of people who love the whole cast but consider Lois, Chloe, Oliver, Lex or whoever their “favorite.” BUT–(and this is a big BUT) when you reach a point where you view EVERYTHING on the show through that lens to the point where it becomes a personal obsession….then you simply can no longer view the show objectively anymore and therefore, in my opinion, you are no longer a credible source. All you need to do is read some of the things these people say to understand that they simply cannot objectively comment on this show anymore nor can they have reasonable discussions about it. EVERYTHING Lois says or does results in spiteful hatred at this point. She could selflessly hand food out to the homeless on street corners from now until eternity and they would say that she was doing it to look good. At this point, they consider Clark a “bastard” “douche” “jackass” (and I’m being kind with these names) because he’s in love with Lois. He doesn’t love the character that they want him to therefore he is evil and Tom Welling must only care about money at this point and is “phoning in his lines.” (I think Tom Welling has been more Supermanly than ever this season but to each their own I guess.)

Anyway..I didn’t bring it up to start a war so please please I hope that no one takes that away from this. I brought it up because I can tell that it still bothers Steve a bit that these people are calling him names and I just want him to know that he has PLENTY of true fans of this show who support him 100% and that we KNOW how much he loves this show and its characters. We KNOW taht he loves Chloe. He doesn’t need to defend himself anymore and I think from now on his best bet is just to ignore it.

  24. GabbY says:

I’m really glad to know there are poly-character loving people out there. I sometimes feel I’m surrounded by different “communities” when it comes to Smallville fandoms and it makes me sad because we all have one thing in common: we love Smallville. Couldn’t it just stop at that?
That’s one thing I’ve ALWAYS said about SHoE: Derek&Steve and the guys before them have a passion for the show in an objective way so that they really do represent the average Smallville lover. I love that about this podcast, because I feel that there are no preferences, no “ships” if you may, that tarnish the quality of the reviews, criticism, and information we get about the episodes.
So all in all, Kathleen, I 100% agree with you.

  25. Kathleen says:

Thanks Gabby. And the thing is….you can still have your favorite characters and yet still be objective. It’s not a bad thing to have a favorite character. I have said a million times that I think Smallville has one of the BEST ensemble casts on TV right now. I can seriously look at every person on that show and I can totally understand why that particular person might be someone’s favorite. Oliver, Chloe, Lois, Tess….I think they are all so awesome as individual characters that I COMPLETELY understand why fans love them so much. This show just has such an amazing cast. It’s also not a bad thing to love a “relationship” on this show. That’s why I’ve been critical of the term “shipper” in the past (and I know I’m not the only one) because it almost implies that enjoying a relationship on the show means that you can’t be objective or that your opinion is somehow less valid about the overall scope of the show. And that is just not true at all. There are PLENTY of fans who love a relationship (Clark and Lois being an example of this) but who are still able to view the show as a whole and support the whole ensemble cast. Having a favorite character or relationship on the show is not a bad thing. It’s when your view of the show becomes so entirely wrapped in that one character or aspect to the point where you can no longer look at the plot or characters and see them for what they are that it becomes a problem.

For me, it all comes back to Clark. Is what is happening on my screen enhancing Clark’s journey? If the answer to that question is “Yes” then I am happy. I think a lot of the relationships on the show (both romantic and platonic) provide incredible character growth and so I’m in favor of them and I think they are worth discussing. I think Clark’s relationship with Lois has provided a lot of character growth for him both last season and this season so again, I like it. And I think that’s realistic because I’ve known tons of people throughout my life who have grown and matured as people when they found their future spouse. So I like that. I’m a Superman fan first and foremost so I’m always interested in what is moving Clark forward.

The key is that it’s fine to have a favorite person that you support on the show. But at the end of the day this is a Superman story and if your obsession with one character is influencing your entire opinion of the show and the plot….then you can’t be credible anymore with your criticism because you’ve lost sight of what the show is supposed to be about. That’s just my opinion though! Thanks for the support.
