Another Great episode! I love the interview with Allison Scagliotti and I agree with a lot of points Prof. Bailey had.

As always, keep up the good work guys :D

I have a feeling the new super power will be soul vision. It’d be in line with the slightly religious under tone they’ve kinda taken with Clark. Of course I could be completely wrong.

Great podcast guys. Allison seems like a really cool young woman. It was great to hear her perspective and her experiences on the Smallville set. I would love to see her back on the show in the future. She’s lovely.

Steve, you may have already heard this but Derek was actually correct regarding who saved Lois. It was Clark. I actually always thought it was Clark just because I never thought Clark would leave Lois’ life in anyone else’s hands but his own. He was ready to jump after her and reveal himself if he had to and it would be out of character for him to leave her life to chance. The Wonder twins hadn’t exactly proven themselves to be reliable by that point in time and I can’t imagine Clark putting Lois in their hands without 100% assurance that she’d be safe. (Hell, he’s shown resistance leaving her in Oliver’s hands in the past even though Oliver HAS proven himself capable in the past.) Hence, I always thought he caught her. Glen Winter posted on Ksite that Zan provided the fog to help cover Clark but that it was Clark who caught her. His line about “taking the elevator” was very convincing but I chalked that up to Clark just really being serious about his dual identity at this point and that he’s getting better at covering himself.

I agreed with a lot of points that Professor Bailey made on the podcast. I understand what you are saying regarding Lois’ radar being up now about Clark and that you think it can make for some interesting drama. A few points about that….I don’t disagree with you per se. However, I actually don’t think it’s accurate to suggest that this was the first time Lois has hinted that she knows Clark has some kind of secret. Over the last 5 years, there have been several times where Lois has admitted that she thinks Clark is a bit weird. As recently as “Rabid” she told Clark to keep his mystery for the time being….indicating that she knows he has one. That being said, I think that so far in their relationship Lois has just kind of let Clark’s mysterious ways go. She’s one of the few people in his life that never really pushes him for answers or badgers him about his secrets. It’s just not her MO. She had the convo with Chloe in “Pariah” back in Season 4 where she said that if someone she knew had a secret she would probably step back and let them tell her when they were ready. However, here’s where I agree with you….I think that now we might start to see Lois’ approach to Clark’s secrets change slightly. She has been sort of ignoring his mysterious ways for the last 5 years. Her interest has been piqued now and I think we might see her delve deeper into what he is hiding. We shall see.

I agree with Professor Bailey on the relationship stuff. First off, I think it’s exactly the right time for these two characters. Frankly, I think it’s become this lazy stigma on TV that in order for drama to be interesting, people have to be kept apart. I think that’s taking the easy way out. It’s more DIFFICULT and takes more skill to write about an interesting relationship and the ups and downs that two people in love experience when they are together. (Which the way, I had to chuckle when I heard you say that Lois sort of “digs” Clark. I assume you were kidding. I think it’s been pretty clear for over a year now that she loves him and that it’s way more than just a crush.) The comics have done a nice job with it many times over the years. LnC, for as cheesy as that show was, did a nice job with it during a lot of Season 3. And let’s face it, the problems that that show had were NOT that the relationship was boring it was that the villians/plotlines were corny. The relationship was the saving grace of that show. I would really like to see Smallville NOT go the way of ever other TV show on the air and be brave enough to write about the relationship in a mature and interesting way. I don’t just tune into this show for the “will they, won’t they” and frankly I would feel cheated if I never got to see these two actually come together. I agree with Professor Bailey—these two belong together. I’ve said before that I hate people referring to this couple as a “ship.” It’s not a ship. This is one of the most famous love stories ever written in pop culture. This show is growing up and I’d like to see all aspects of it continue to grow up with it. To me, it’s a very teen concept that people need to be kept apart for the sake of drama. I think there are plenty of adults in committed relationships that recognize that love and togetherness has PLENTY Of drama to explore in an interesting way (particularly if the person you are dating has super powers) if you are brave enough to do it and I hope that this show is.

Totally agree with your comments about Tom Welling. He has literally transformed in front of our eyes. He’s always had a humble demeanor about him but he has developed this regal presence now onscreen where I can’t take my eyes off of him. (And it’s not just because he’s so “blisteringly handsome” in the words of Allison S.) He has slowly but surely grown with this character and become Superman in front of our eyes and it’s a real pleasure to watch.

Thanks again for the great podcast.

P.S. I was cracking up at your old man impression. That’s pretty convincing.

Great interview Steve! Allison is a very intelligent young woman – and speaks well beyond her 19 years. I’m a fan, and will be sure to check out Warehouse 13.

  7. Linda W (aka Archer) says:

I forgot to mention one other thing – when you bring up the Donner/Singer movies, I agree 100% about the bumbling Clark, and even need to bring up the character of Lex. I never liked Lex as the buffoon, who surrounds himself with bigger buffoons. The way that Rosenbaum made the character shine was by playing the role as super sophisticated and intelligent. I miss him so much. Those conversations that he had with Clark and even with Lionel. They were priceless!

  8. Woo says:

Thanks for the shout-out in this episode Steve (and no I wasn’t offended, I was honored to be mentioned on Starkville House of El.) By the way, I never thought about until you mentioned it that Lois’ therapist could be one of Zod’s soldiers so you are not alone in not thinking that. I just want to say in closing last Saturday I completed my first recording of a podcast for my University and I was inspired to do it because of you and Derek and the great work you do at SHoE so thanks for the inspiration and who knows maybe some day we can be friends?
