BACK TO THE FUTURE — Tess kidnaps Lois to find out where Lois went after she disappeared for weeks. Lois’ memory of the future depicts a Metropolis under Zod’s rule and Clark powerless under the red sun, while Chloe forms a resistance group with Oliver. After learning of these future events, Clark makes an important decision about Zod.

  2. Derek says:

Not sure I am as high on this episode as some. I never been a fan of AU/time reversal type episodes which this seems to be(ie what could happen in the future but won’t)

  3. Audrey says:

Derek, I understand what you mean but that’s not exactly true. This isn’t what could happen in the future….it’s what DID happen in the future the first time around. The present timeline (the events from “Savior through “Idol”) are actually the changed timeline. The timeline changed when Lois came back and Clark found her on the train. So calling this an “AU” isn’t really correct because these are events that DID occur for these characters the first time around. I know that time travel can give people headaches. (LOST, I love you but I’m talking to you.) BUT—I think it’s kind of an important distinction to make when you view the episode tonight. It loses some of it’s emotional impact if you consider it an AU and forget that this was what these characters DID experience the first go round until Lois was sent back and everything started to shift. I would imagine that the episode will provide a lot of clues for Clark so that he can continue to change the timeline and prevent the horrible future where Zod takes over from happening. Anyway, not sure ifI made sense. I just think it’s a mistake to call this an AU.

Trust me, Derek, the way they do this one is really cool.

I can’t wait for this episode! I just think it’s going to be great to see what a world under the reign of Zod would look like and all the mayhem that will ensue.

Even though this isn’t a AU episode fully, I’ve always been a fan of those type of episodes too. I loved Apocalypse and Labyrinth!

  6. Andrew says:

Waiting, waiting, omg is it here yet?

  7. scott says:

There isn’t a post for it yet, but I thought I’d mention how freaking cool it is to have Brian Austin Green come back to Smallville.

  8. dlomax says:

Uh…I….There was…Society….Justice…. Oh my goodness smallville was great! I feel dizzy. I think I’m about to enter a geek coma.

  9. Superville8 says:

This is the best episode of the season from the Zod scenes to that last scene where the Kneel Before Kal-El except for Zod. He also mentions he is a general. And then that trailer. Dr.Fate the Jsa table, green lantern alan scott ring, the sandman and that picture. Can not wait until January 22nd when Diciple airs.

  10. Mike says:

Wow what an awesome episode! This season has been fantastic!

    Kneel before KAL EL

BUT…How did Alia have powers in “Savior” under a yellow sun?
    -Plot Hole
    -Didn’t come in Orb
    -Residual Power?

  11. dlomax says:

I dunno but they make it clear that show still has power under the yellow sun. Hmm…. interesting. Shes still alive in the past maybe its something we should expect to see. Best twist! Zod: “Kneel before Kalel”

  12. The Martian says:

What mike said! The iconic photo of the JSA! And they all appeared to be canon right down to terrific!! Wow I wont be able to sleep tonight. This is not smallville! smallville has been over. This is a superman show. This is superman!

  13. Anthony says:

This was a nice episode that happen tonight. It was an episode that many fans were waiting to see this season and I think it wasn’t a disappointment.

We got see why those brief flashes that Lois happened, Oliver digging the ground for example, and I wasn’t disappointed by it. The possible future was nicely done without giving absolute explanations how things happened.

How the episode ended was a surprising twist but I wasn’t completely against. Obviously General Zod has some alternative motive to having his followers kneel before Clark/Kal-El but it’ll likely be a while until we find out what it is.

No doubt this episode wasn’t a disappointment and I’ll give it a 4.5 out of 5 or even a perfect 5 out of 5.

  14. Matt says:

Yeah, that whole Alia having powers but Zod seconds before not is a HUGE plot hole. I thought this writing team had done much better job the past few seasons by not creating any major plot holes but that just can’t be ignored. Also, Zod not picking up the kryponite dagger/knife but all of sudden having it in his hand. I can’t tolerate lazy writing.

Otherwise, I really enjoyed this episode and can’t wait for what looks like future JLA-centric episodes.

  15. AbOs says:

I don’t think the Alia thing will be a plot hole. My theory is that she is somehow infiltrated in zod’s army, and somehow she is attached to Clark, I think she has powers under the yellow sun like clark, and she fakes not by having blue kryptonite. Remember in Savior whe she had a piece of blue kryptonite?

My only question is her motives, but I think it will play out later.

What I’m hoping won’t be a plot hole or leaved plot is the artifact jor-el left in Clark’s home, I thought it will play out in Pandora but no, even Chloe not mentioning to Clark seems strange…

Please writers! don’t forget about that! PLEASEEE

  16. Phill says:

am i going insane or was that a power ring during the preview?

  17. Mary says:

I really liked this episode. I thought the entire cast did an outstanding job. Tom Welling was amazing in this episode. (Although he’s been amazing the entire season so that’s nothing new.) There was such a stark contrast to Clark in the future vs. Clark in the present. In the future, Tom convinced me that Clark was a broken man. When he gave Jonthan’s watch I wanted to cry. Tom’s delivery of “I did it for you” and “I died when you left” was really well done. His eyes looked so full of hurt and pain. He also made me believe that this was a guy who basically realized what he had too late with Lois and had been beating himself up all year for never realizing when she was alive how he truly felt about her. It’s very Superman and it’s in line with several other similar stories in both the comics and the animated series where Superman gets a wake up call when he loses Lois. The love scene was beautiful and passionate and sexy. It was amazing to compare Clark from the future vs. Clark at the end with the hand hold in the elevator. The present version of Clark has hope. (And on a purely shallow note, Tom Welling’s body looks amazing. It should be illegal to be that good looking.)

Erica Durance was also amazing in this episode. But again, that’s nothing new. She has become my definitive Lois Lane. I watch her onscreen and I completely understand why of all the women in the world this is the woman that Superman chooses to spend his life with. Chloe was really interesting in the future. I’m interested in seeing where her path will lead her this year. Is there still a possibility that she’ll become that cold and lifeless in the future? I guess we need to stay tuned. I’ve been enjoying Chloe’s more cold attitude this year. It makes her interesting. I’d like to see her have a nice little redemption before the end of the season because I DO Feel that she has made some mistakes and that she needs to come to terms with her mistakes and make good again.

Loved the Kneel Before Kal-El. That was so darn cool. Loved that Zod didn’t kneel. I tend to think that Clark’s “plan” is more of a “keep your friends close and your enemies closer” type thing. At least I hope it is. That being said, what Clark did was a very Superman thing to do. It would be completely out of character for Superman to just barge in (like Oliver and Chloe wanted) and take Zod down in a pre-emptive strike with violence. That’s just not Superman’s way. So it should be interesting to see how this all plays out and if Clark’s plan is going to work.

All in all another great episode to cap off a great first half of the season.
