Johns Brings ‘Absolute Justice’
That’s right everyone, Geoff Johns’ epic project that started with ‘Society’, then became a two part episode with ‘Legends’, and most recently, a full blown 2 hour movie event has an official name. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that the movie will be titled ‘Absolute Justice’ and will air on February 5 instead of January 29. EW is also reporting that the movie will only feature one set of credits, as not to interrupt the flow of the event. The main reason for the name change appears to be for marketing reasons, but I think it might be a good idea as it helps to solidify the fact that these episodes have been combined into a movie.
What do you think of the name change? Sound off in the comments below!

Acceptable…
I’m just excited it’s actually a movie and it’s not just back-to-back episodes, which would still be cool but this is awesome!
This is AWESOME! Maybe they can make up for the Commencement 90 minute episode fake out (they counted a long preview scene from Batman Begins).
It feels like an event now. It’s not just a couple of good episodes but a full on Smallville event nine years in the making. The only thing that could make this any better would be an appearance by Lex Luthor to cliffhanger the end of it…
Soo….are we gonna get 21 episodes and have this called that name or we gonna get 22 and have “Society” and “Legends”? as much as I like this I may have to do some vid editing when I get it for my archos and put the credits in and make it a normal episode :P Im just anal like that. Do we know if like i said before if its considered one eppy making the season total 21 or if we get 22 episodes with this
This sounds amazing this will bring other viewers in because it’s a tv movie on a Friday night
OH MY GOD!!! This is amazing! Seriously, I can’t wait. While I’m a tad bit sad on the name change (it being two words instead of just one), I can explain that as it being two hours long (one word per hour). This is wicked cool! I can’t wait for Feb. 5th and I’m gonna be sure to get it off of work.
This is good news. Sounds like the CW might actually promote the show for once! Still, I don’t know if I can handle a multiple-word title… ;)
This is gonna be awesome!
I thinks the title sounds awesome. Only problem is the 2 words thing. i thought the same thing with the two words two hours. Can Not Wait.
What they’re doing is a smart move. While it sucks that we now have to wait until February instead of January but that just means that it’ll give them more time to finish up any loose ends.
With both episodes now being considered as one big time episode/movie, I doubt that they’ll be an additional episode to the season. I’m fine with that since the season as a whole has been excellently done.
Another thing I wanted to say is that while the fans would usually consider the episode “Commencement” as the longest episode that Smallville had but that isn’t necessary the truth. I believe that on its original showing, the very first two episodes of the series, “Pilot” and “Metamorphous”, was shown as one episode. If I’m mistaken then someone go ahead and correct me.
Still can’t wait to see Absolute Justice as more likely than not, it’ll be incredible. Hopefully when the DVD set for this season comes out they’ll be a long special feature on the making of it. Something like how the 100th episode, “Reckoning”.
This is going to air two days before my birthday! I can’t wait. I really like the title. “Absolute Justice” just sounds epic. Thought it does suck that its taken 9 seasons for the WB/CW to do something like this with Smallville. They better give it the promotion it deserves.
I’m stoked…all I want to know now is wether or not this “movie” will be included in the iTunes season pass…hmm…
Aww! They broke the one word title rule….. Ill get over it. Sounds awesome!
If it’s better than Justice; then count me in!!!!!!!!!!!
holy poo-nuggets! this is going to be epic
As of last week, there would be this night, + 20 other episodes in the season, making it twenty-two episodes for season nine. Not sure if that’s still the case or not with this new news but I will imagine it’s still the same since episode shooting works out for this being two episodes, with two different directors (Winter & Welling) – so it’s probably 20 episodes, plus the Feb. 5th “movie” event.
Agree with everyone who’s a little sad that they changed the one word rule.. but at this point I don’t really mind. I’m just really excited for this event!
That’s a good point about the iTunes season pass….hmm, indeed.
In any case, I’m beyond excited for this event. I’m pretty zen about the two word title, probably because I’m still calling them Society and Legends in my head. Besides seeing certain guest stars interact with the main cast, I’m especially excited to see how Welling directs his “half” of the movie, especially with Pam Grier guest starring in the second hour.
I really wish Ausiello would stop calling it a movie, he’s the only one that said it and now everyone’s calling it that. It’s not a Smallville tv-movie, it’s just a sweeps related two hour episode, essentially. The budget wasn’t any greater, there probably won’t be new episode-centric credits or anything like that. It’s just a big event!
You’re wrong. You seriously thought they wouldn’t get a big raise in budget for this? SHH confirmed that.
Ausiello broke the news in the 1st place, he’s in the liberty to call it what he wants.
I’m not wrong, they’ve had bigger budgets, it just happens to be two episodes with two different budgets, now combined for one night. So if I had broken the news, I could have called it a sandwich? That makes a lot of sense. I’m breaking the news now, season nine finale is a glass of water.
I no doubt agree that the budget is larger, but it’s a two-fer deal. The budget increase has nothing to do with a “movie” title is what I’m saying.
i am not happy. smallville has never had a two name title! please tell me this is only the movies name and the episode name will remain as society
what do you mean it will be a glass of water? is that good or bad?
Lol, all the comments after what you said Derek…I’m laughing, ur like “it’s not a movie” then someones like “only the movies name” im like ugh….lol, Derek, do you know when this will place Disciple now ?
Derek is right. The budget is 2x the size of 1 episode, because it is 2 episodes. MATH PEOPLE!
Wow… people just got defensive.
Movie… not a movie… who cares. It’s semantics at this point. The point of the whole thing is that Smallville is getting the spotlight it deserves. The CW is giving the night to a great show that we all love and it’s going to be awesome. There shouldn’t be a fight over if it is called a movie or if the title is more than one word.
oh dont get me wrong i dont really care about the title im stoked for this episode! im just nitpicking really, i dont mean to start a fight :) i just hope this is only the marketing title like the way the called run flash in the previews because i really love the one word titles and i like that theyve never changed that, like friends (my favorite show ever) always started with “The One” (with the exception of the series finale “The Last One”). but i am unclear of what derek meant when he said this was going to be a glass of water? can someone clear that up for me? thanks
I think Derek meant that people keep calling it a movie but only because Ausiello broke the story and called it what he wanted. Derek said if he broke the story on the finale he could call it a glass of water, just like ausiello came out and called the event a movie.
He means that just because Ausiello was the first to break the news and call it a movie that it doesn’t make it a “movie”. If the we were going to go with the rule that if someone calls something a movie and it makes that thing a movie then he was saying that the next season is a “glass of water” and now it’s a “glass of water”.
So in closing… just cause someone calls it a movie that doesn’t make it a movie.
But it does make it an event to look forward to.
i get it now. thank you very much
I HATE THIS! Why would the peeps at Smallville think that two hours on a Friday night in February is a good idea to do something like this? Do they think this will actually help the show. The ratings are terrible. I mean, look at CBS’s Ghost Whisperer…now THOSE are ratings. Just stick to the formula CW….wait…that’s not working either.
I’m just kidding…I’m stoked.
ahaha, I truly laughed at Steves comment :P I was like what! omg…
Love the movie idea, think it’ll be awesome… hate the title. I’ll just keep calling it them Society/Legends in my head.
Cannot wait for January.
