Helloooooo Awesome episode. I cant wait for this one, but I can’t wait for all the others either.
My other favorite Allison! Ms. Scagliotti was a terrific addition to Warehouse 13. Good to see her again.
In the description, when you say “…lands Clark in hot water…” is that a joke b/c of Zan’s ability? I hope it’s as campy as an old Superfriends episode.
they dont say it right in the preview :(
When the glasses came out… geek wood.
Glasses!! That moment made me so happy! And the ending! Darn this show for always making me want more.
Didn’t everyone just feel like standing up and applaud?
Loved this episode!
Man this was a great episode. The Twins were done good, the red and yellow shield. Then that awesome ending with the glasses and the flashforward kiss. Awesome. Can’t wait for the next podcast.
This was such an amazing episode. Loved it. The WT were awesome, the Gleek references, the glasses, Clark was Superman and Lois was just so Lois.
And we got a Star Wars reference ~ “Lois I tried. There is no try Skywalker”
Can’t wait to hear this podcast guys!
I really thought this going to be a “filler” type episode but “My Lanta” was I incorrect. Great work by The Wonder Twins and loved the Blackberry cell phone case with the monkey on the back. (Great Wonder Twins Gleek reference I bet Prof. Bailey loved that.) Loved the “Lois & Clark” call backs with the song “I Need A Hero” same song used in The Pilot episode of “Lois and Clark” when Clark is trying to find the right disguise/costume. I loved the call backs to the tail end of the second season of “Lois & Clark” when Lois sees the therapist about her problems involving men who happened to be Superheroes. Same kind of idea, but taken a little bit more seriously in “Idol”. I freaked when the glasses came out. Tom Welling you did George Reeves, Christopher Reeve, and Dean Cain proud sir by wearing those glasses. Looks like Chloe really is enjoying her role as “Watchtower” maybe a little too much. It’s true Chloe didn’t have much to do at the beginning of the ninth season but “My Lanta” has that changed. She really sees herself as “Den-Mother” and unofficially “figure head” of the Justice League. Loved her scenes with The Wonder Twins” The “Clois” kiss at the end looks like it came right out of a DC Comic especially when Lois lifting her leg up. But those dream sequences… especially that last one at the end of the episode. Did not see that coming. Reminds me of the end of “Abyss” last season when Brainiac took over The Fortress of Solitude. I was stunned then and I said “Holy S***” like two times when “Idol” ended. Strong 4.5 out of 5. My favorite scene is when Kal-El and Chloe are talking on the street about what The “S” shield means and what it stands for as a symbol that has never really been mention on Smallville before now. Fellow Apple iPod and Microsoft Zune SHoEligans I do not know about you, but I can’t wait to hear what the guys think of the episode on the next podcast and I can not wait for next week. This episode made me believe strongly… We will see a Season Ten! Mole.
I have been following Smallville since the Pilot aired. I have never missed an episode and have resorted to nearly destroying my weekend social life to catch this show live. And I must say…THANK GOD. This season of Smallville has NOT ONLY BEEN THE BEST SEASON EVER, it stands among one of the most MUST WATCH shows on TV this year.
Clark Kent put on his glasses. Not only was the scene well-written, it was appropriate in the episode’s story. Hands down the best written scene all year.
The Wonder Twins were well-executed. I had assumed they would appear cheesy or pointless but they really helped push the story forward.
And that is what I love about this season: It is PUSHING the STORY forward.
A while back, someone asked me if there was any fan-edits of Smallville which took out all filler and exorcised incoherent plots. All I can say is that if that edit is ever made, not one second of Season Nine can be removed.
5/5
Season TEN is on the horizon.
Wow, I thought this was gonna be a dumb episode, but wow was I mistaken!
Agree with everyone. 4.9/5.
You know….last week and this week just sum up exactly what I love about this show. Last week, we got this amazing, action packed, mythos episode where we explored Clark’s alien heritage and his connections with Zod and his birth father. And it was amazing.
This week, we got an amazing real CHARACTER study for Clark Kent, the man, trying to deal with this duel personas and we also got an INCREDIBLE character study in who Lois Lane is. And I have to just say it….Erica and Tom are hitting it out of the park with these two characters. They are so real. You feel like you know them and understand them. Watching them together, I feel like I understand WHY they will end up married. I can see why she is the right woman for him and why he’s the right man for her. And that is so rare on TV and particularly on Smallville! I think it’s official: this is my favorite version of Clark and Lois ever. And that’s a hard thing to say because I have a soft spot in my heart for every duo who have played these characters. As Steve has reminded us many times, they are written to have a certain chemistry. They are written to belong together. And Smallville has found a way to take that chemistry and make it so palpable and so touching that they have officially become my favorite version of the pair. Just fantastic.
Everything from that touching moment at the press conference, to Clark’s speech about his father’s shield to the hilarious moments with Lois in therapy to Clark climbing out on that ledge. How about the moment when he calls her as the Blur and she’s yelling at him and he’s SMILING as she yells? How funny was that?
I also loved the moment when Lois was in therapy talking about how now that she knows that clark is the blur….she just wants to support him. That’s all. She will stick up for Superman with her dying breath if she has to. That’s Lois Lane my friends.
The beginning scene in Lois’ dreams was so heart breaking and so sad. You could feel their longing and passion and yet there was so much sadness. It was a nice shout out to the “For Tomorrow” comic. Then at the end that scene in the copy room was so playful and yet so touching at the same time. I love how happy Clark seems around Lois. It’s like he’s finally at peace. When he turned around in those glasses I wanted to scream, YES!!!!! And don’t even get me started on Lois kicking that box over to him and then walking over and planting one on him. God, that was classic Clark and Lois right there. She was totally sexy and he was shocked at first and then got into it. God, I love them.
I love this show!!!!!! I love that we get a little bit of everything….action, comic book references, humor, DC characters, last week amazing Zod/Jor-El action and this week incredible Clark and Lois character study. FANTASTIC!!!
Agree with everything that has been said. Another amazing episode from start to finish. This season has been incredible.
Next week looks like it’s going to be a really intense cliffhanger. That moment at the beginning of the episode with Clark and Lois in front of the red sun was so heartbreaking and beautifully shot. I fear I may cry next week.
I thought the first few episodes of this season were awesome. I kept waiting for it to be a fluke. There’s no way the episodes could keep being so amazing week after week. Kept waiting. Then I watched “Crossfire” and I thought it was awesome again. Somehow they were keeping the quality up week after week. Then I watched “Kandor” which was nothing short of EPIC all on it’s own. Then I watched “Idol” and was again blown away. My reply to all of the haters of this fantastic season:
KNEEL BEFORE SMALLVILLE.
I think Dave said it best. Kneel haters.
I haven’t seen the episode but I’m making a comment about something that was said in the spoiler section of the last episode of SHoE…
Steve said that the Wonder Twins had not been in the comic book continuity before and were only in the Superfriends… this is incorrect.
Jann and Zana popped up in Extreme Justice and were fully brought into the DCU proper at that point. They also showed up at a Teen Titans membership drive a couple times but never managed to get on the team.
An absolutely perfect episode in every way. Epic epic epic epic epic!! I laughed I cried I got chills. I hope this show gets the recognition it deserves. It is absolutely amazing.
I am so glad that people are finally starting to come to this website to not only listen to the podcast but to comment in bulk as well. Steve and Derek deserve it.
Anyways, my thoughts on a season ten would definitely have to involve Clark BEING Superman. If his speech at the end of Idol proved anything, it’s that we are closer than ever to seeing that.
Smallville is no longer a tease. It is 100% Superman.
I’m going out on a limb right now and predicting that Season 10 WILL happen. This season is just unspeakably great. Idol was incredible.
Season 10! Then metropolis will finally stop calling him the blur and call him by the name we all love and know. Master B
J/K SUPERMAN!!!
I’ve been loving Smallville more and more. This filler episode that I originally wasn’t excited for, had be hooting and cheering outloud! This season FLYS above all other shows at story telling and character development, so what more can we ask for? Oh yeah, bring on Season 10! Anyway to help that happen?
It’s been such an amazing season and as someone who doesn’t watch much TV anymore, Smallville is one of the very few shows holding my interest this year.
master b was slick, awesome stuff
This was another amazing episode in an amazing season. This episode had so much character growth for Clark and Lois. Lois was so sincere trying to process her feelings for both Clark and the Blur. That moment on the rooftop was so heartbreaking. She was ready to sacrifice herself to protect his identity for the city. The reason Clark didn’t want her to know the secret was EXACTLY because of things like this. Because Lois WOULD give her own life to protect him and that scares the crap out of him. It puts her in a lot of danger. Lois is so fiercely loyal. This is one of her traits on Smallville and it’s one of her iconic traits in every medium of the character. She is fiercely loyal to the people she loves and to the “idea” of Superman—probably more than any other character. She was willing to die so that Clark wouldn’t have to give up his identity. She would give her life in a second for him. The crazy part is that had she fallen—and had the Wonder Twins not provided that fog….Clark would have jumped after her and revealed himself. There’s no question in my mind that he would never LET her give her life for him like that. So if the twins hadn’t been there, he was going to jump off after her anyway consequences be damned. Eventually, Clark will learn that Lois’ life is actually SAFER if she knows the truth because then he has more chances to be there to protect her. The bottom line is that they can’t live without each other so they both have to manage the secret together so that they can be together.
That moment with Lois in her last therapy session where she revealed that her “thoughts” kept coming back to Clark climbing out on the ledge for her was just so….modern age Lois Lane. Her heart always comes back to Clark. Yes, she is fascinated by heroes and the idea of Superman. And her relationship with Superman is confusing sometimes. But her heart belongs to Clark. It was nice to see that play out. Eventually, she’ll learn that she can have the real man and the fantasy hero all in one. :)
The scene in the end where she kicked the newspaper stack over and ran over to kiss him was one of the cutest, sexiest things I’ve ever seen. It was like something out of a comic book.
I really hope that the podcast talks about all this important character development this week.
I can’t wait “Kandor”! Those visions at the end of the episode just made me want to know what happened NOW! I can’t wait until Friday!
Whoops, I mean “Pandora”!***
Loved Idol now bring in PANDORA
I liked this episode. At first I do not like the idea of the Wonder Twins but they proved me wrong. I hope we get a season 10.
I don’t know why but this episode was boring… maybe because there wasn’t enough of the Wonder Twins they only had like 4min of screentime. I wanted to see more of them.
I didn’t think it was boring at all. In fact, it felt like there was so much going on at once. I loved all the character development and I liked getting inside of both Clark and Lois’ heads. I actually thought that the Wonder Twins were used just enough to be effective. Any more and it would have been overkill for me. They were corny and the way they were used showed their adoration of Clark without becoming too annoying. But I guess we all have different opinions on these things.
I loved the episode! I totally dug how they did the Wonder Twins and am glad they weren’t spoiled brats that Clark had to talk some sense into. The fact that they realized they needed to use their heads and take this thing seriously made them a very likable duo. I want to see them again in an episode.
Everything else in the episode was excellent as well and so far this is my favorite episode of the season.
Now… I wonder if Clark is going to wear the glasses all the time or more often from here on out. I would like it.
Great Episode !!I am 40, so I grew up w/ the wonder twins loved it !! I recorded it and didn’t get the preview is there going to b an ep. next week ?
yes sir, gonna be excellent, id suggest not goin on utube to find it either, itll be a great suprise! :D
This was one of my favourite episodes. As a Superman fan, it had so much that I loved. Lois in peril, Clark’s attitude towards the Twins near the end (so very Superman). I just loved so much about it. I nearly died of fannish Glee.
I’ll admit that I wasn’t sure about this episode. I didn’t know much about the whole Wonder Twins and honestly, I thought this episode was just a way to cool things down somewhat from the previous episode “Kandor” and maybe set up for “Pandora”. Good to see I was at least wrong about it not being a good episode.
The Clark and Lois moments were nicely done, as usual. Especially like the scene at the start of the episode that was clearly from the future. That and what happen at the end was a good way for next week’s episode.
Again we saw Chloe doing a questionable tactic for a right thing. I liked how the show is making it so that the viewers could agree and disagree with the arguement that Chloe and Clark had at Watchtower.
Altogether, it was a good episode and I would give it a 3.5 out of 5. Interested to see how the whole Pandora episode goes.
This episode was classic Superman and I loved it. Clark was wise, heroic, calm and had this incredible aura around him when dealing with the twins. The rooftop scene was straight out of Superman the movie or a comic book. Glad to see confirmation from Glen Winter that it was CLARK and not the twins who saved Lois. He was always planning to jump if she fell but the twins helped him out by providing some cover from the cameras. Lois showed what we all knew all along: that she loves Clark no matter what and that she’d gladly die so that he could remain a beacon of hope for the city. She understands Clark in such a beautiful way. It was such a role reversal from all those years of Lana’s “secrets and lies.” Lois wasn’t angry that he had been lying to her. She felt compassion for him that he was forced to lead a double life and she just wanted to show him that it didn’t matter and that she would support him no matter what. She has no personal agenda. She is not power hungry nor she does ever try to “out-hero” Clark. She doesn’t need super powers to feel like his equal nor does she feel the need to be in control of his life or as the 90’s show LnC described it, “be part of the act.” She recognizes that CLARK is the superhero and she’s secure enough as a person that she doesn’t feel the need to compete with that or interfere. She’ll make waves and be a hero in her own way with her career as the years go on and she’ll get in plenty of trouble due to her insatiable curious nature but her first priority with Clark is just to support him. To me, this is one of the subtle and yet very important reasons why Lois is the one who becomes his wife. She just wants to love him. One thing was clear from Lois’ confessions in therapy…yes there is a “triangle for two.” Lois is drawn to heroes. They bring out a more vulernable side to her and she admires their sacrifice and bravery. But in the end Lois’ heart belongs to Clark. He’s the man that she loves above all else no matter what suit he’s wearing.
Fully expected this to be a crap episode. But holy moses, this may be my favorite of the season. As Audrey said, this was about as classic Superman as you can get on Smallville. Made me VERY happy.
Anybody know where i can watch this online?
Lois kicking that stack of newspapers and then strutting over (with the tango music in the background) to attack Clark may go down as the cutest/sexiest thing ever seen on Smallville. It’s just such a classic Lois thing to do. It’s difficult for her to express how she feels in words so she had to resort to other tactics to get her point across. Clark had that hilarious and innocent look on his face like, “What the hell is she doing?” when she kicked the papers and then as per usual the farmboy got into it because at this point he’s like putty in her hands. Just such a classic Clark and Lois interaction. There’s a reason why they are my favorite fictional couple in any medium (comics, movies and tv) and that scene perfectly sums up why. They make true love and marriage fun. :) (Which it is if you are with the right person.)
Any chance that we will get the podcast for “Idol” at some point today??? Can’t wait to hear it!!
