Society + Legends = Smallville Movie!
Fans have been clammoring for another extended episode of Smallville since May 2004, and in a few short months, that time will come. Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello reported this morning that the January episodes of “Society” and “Legends” will now be combined as a two hour long TV-Movie event that will air on January 29, 2010.
Both episodes are written by DC Comics favorite Geoff Johns (directed by Glenn Winter and Tom Welling) but it’s unclear at this time if the episodes will just air as two separate installments (9×11 & 9×12) back to back, or if they will be edited together with “Part 1″ and “Part 2″ credits rolling in the opening minutes. More news as it becomes available!
What do you all think? Sound off in the comments below!

I AM STOKED!!
Every time I think they can’t make this two parter more awesome, something like this happens. This is going to be AMAZING.
As you’ll hear in the latest episode of SHoE, per iTunes, Season Nine was slated for 23 episodes after the second part (”Legends”) was added. We don’t know if this will back it down to 22 episodes running, or if this is actually two episodes airing on one night, keeping it at 23. All speculative right now, we’ll know more when we know more.
GREAT news! I can’t wait! It’s going to make even more EPIC, if that’s possible! Smallville has really stepped it up this season, they are great!
awesome news, looking forward to the Smallville movie event :-)
Tears of absolute joy. I can’t even sit still right now. This is the best news I could ever wake up to! I’ll be back to comment more when I catch my breath and thoughts…
This sounds amazing, and will hopefully draw good ratings. While I’m hoping it will be a big two-hour episode, I’m guessing it’ll be two separate ones. Didn’t know about the 23 total episodes, though I think they’ll count this as two given that there will be two different directors.
The first half of the season has been great, and the back half seems like it will continue that, and maybe even up the ante
Well, like the article said what we Smallville/Superman fans and ShoEligans have been waiting for this since the fourth season finale “Commencement”. I know Mister Russell and Big Honkin’ have spoken about wanting a two hour TV Movie event on Smallville since my first episode of SHoE I ever listened to on my 80 GB Black Microsoft Zune. Quite honestly, this is what I really wanted to happen in “Legion” in the eighth season and from hearing Geoff Johns’ commentary on the home video for “Legion” this is what he wanted too. Can’t wait to hear what Big Honkin’ and the other members of the SHoe community think about this news. I’m very glad that this is what they’re doing and gives me the sense that this is Smallville’s test from The CW. Like, “We have seen a ratings rise and we are interested in a renewing this series for one more season, let’s see an event like this can bring even more viewers.” To me, this gives us hope for a possible tenth season. What do you guys’ think?
This would be great! Especially that Smallville is on Fridays now, it won’t be cutting on any other show! It will be interesting to see if this works out. Longer Smallville episodes are awesome in my book.
I’m all for a Smallville movie event. I am more than impressed with the way this season is going and this just makes it even better. Usually shows that run this long are struggling to make it but Smallville seems to have hit it’s stride and I now would welcome and 10th season with open arms.
Ok, either way I’m stoked!!! 23 eppies for the season, I had no clue!!!! If we get 22 with this 2 hour event, AWESOME! if we get 23 and this eppy is one with a “24th” tacked on, AWESOME! so freaken great. January 29th will be the best day of the year and only 29 days into the year!
AWESOME!!! This two-parter is getting more and more EPIC!
I think it’s only fitting that they call it a SMALLVILLE-MOVIE!
And I don’t have wait a week to find out how it continues, Smallville season 9 is just wonderful!
Sorry for the capslock Steve, I know you don’t like it but I’m so excited and I’m not really shouting, just squeeing very loud!
SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEE lol
I think it’s awesome!
Hey Derek when will see the latest episode of SHoE in our Apple iTunes/Microsoft Zune Marketplace podcast inbox?
Woo,
It will be there when he’s done with it. Stop pressuring him about it. It’s out when it’s out.
But if you check the SHoE Twitter (http://twitter.com/SHoEpodcast), you could see that the episode should be up sometime this afternoon.
Now I just want to hear “limited interruptions or commercial free”. How great would that be?
No, I’m not pressuring him Mark. Please don’t take that way. I just really want to know the guys’ thoughts on “Kandor.” If anyone felt I was pestering him or anyone else, I am not. I apologize if it sounded that way.
I’ve got the popcorn, the big HDTV – the only thing missing is all of you to watch it with! Oh well, we’ll all be together in spirit – but can you imagine all of the SHoE members getting together to watch – now that would be epic!
This is such a great season – I’ve never been so impatient for a TV show to air each week. I’m like a 4 year old at Christmas!
Woo, I don’t think it sounded that way, you were just curious. :)
Woo,
That’s fine. Totally understand. But you should keep your eyes peeled on the Twitter. That’s normally where stuff like that gets announced. Just a tip for future reference!
I can’t even…I don’t even remember being this excited for a new Buffy or Angel “back in the day” but Smallville has definitely upped the ante this season. A two hour movie. *is ded*
I AM FLIPPING EXCITED!! Two hours of Smallville and each episode is going to be huge. This is so great, coming back from the Hellatus to this? I can bear the wait now. This must mean we’ll end with Pandora in Nov. move to Disciple in Dec. and hit January 29th with Society/Legends – WOW, I love the entire progression of this from the start. We started with Geoff Johns writing this. Then it was confirmed with the heroes in it. Then we got 2 episodes dedicated to this. Then we got Martian Manhunter back. Then we got 2 hour movie event. OMG, alone in the living room on the 42 inch LCD screen, pitch black and popcorn with a blanket and pillows – I can not wait, can you say epic?
It was about time! Smallville deserved since long time ago 2-hour premiere or finale, every other show with less time on air was getting one and it was strange to me that Smallville didn’t get one, given the iconic character of Superman and the high ratings, but now I couldn’t get more excited!!!
Andrew, you missed beofore the two movie event that Amanda Waller will also Guest!! Oh my God, epic is short for this thing!
I only wonder if Disciple will air a week before this event or they will move it to december as someone said here? Give offcial dates please!!
This is great news. I was just happy with it just being a two part episode but to basically to make into a two hour movie is even better. With all the support that the show has had since its first episode and how well it’s be to the network, whether it be WB or CW, I think it’s well deserved. Begin the countdown.
Hey! I’m new here, but I’ve been following the site for 2 months now.
I love the show. This is really exciting news. But having seen 2-part episodes, and how they’re broadcasted on tv versus being on DVD’s, I think Society & Legends will air as 90/120 minutes, clipped together. Meaning you’ll get the entire credits after the first teaser. And you’ll see something like “part 1/part 2″ or “Society & Legends written by Geoff Johns. Then something like “Part One or Society directed by Glen Winters, Part Two or Legends directed by Tom Welling” Then when we get the DVD’s, I’ll assume they’ll be separated as 2 individual eppys, where you’ll get individual credits. Probably on the same disc.
I’m hoping that “Disciple” airs January 22nd, that way it’ll get everyone aware that Smallville is back from hiatus and then “Society”/”Legends” won’t have to worry about everyone not knowing that Smallville is back and we might get some great ratings!
“i think im going to need a bigger tv”
That would be amazing! Hawkman, Dr.Fate, Stargirl, Martian Manhunter, Amanda Waller, Speedy, Green Arrow, Watchtower, Superman! That would be a lot of heroes and villians for a movie, but who cares. YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
