Pam Grier To Visit Smallville

Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello reported today about some brand new casting news out of the Smallville universe. Pam Grier will join Smallville for “multiple episodes” according to Ausiello. But who exactly is the Golden Globe Nominated actress playing? The casting and a bit of analysis after the break…
Pam Grier will join the cast starting in the episode “Legends” as the one and only Amanda Waller. For those unfamiliar with the character, Waller is a known villain in the DC universe, who often time works with Checkmate (a covert operation group) and the Suicide Squad (a group of supervillians that do top secret missions in exchange for pardons from their crimes). Waller is a tough woman, who is a formidable opponent, and a woman that should be feared. I haven’t personally seen any of Grier’s acting, but the fact that she was nominated for a Golden Globe speaks volumes. Pam Grier also looks the part, and that’s half the battle right there. Needless to say, I’m excited for Waller to appear in the Smallville universe, and the fact that she’ll be staying around could be quite interesting as the second half of the season moves forward.
What do you all think? Sound off in the comments below!

Great casting choice. CCH Pounder was terrific as Waller in the animated universe and also would have been a terrific choice. Grier provides a different edge though with her acting, she has a “softer” more personable side that would be an asset on a show where your villains are often portrayed in more three dimensional terms. Plus, who can say no to Jackie Brown? Apparently, not Smallville either ;)
William, you’ve never seen Jackie Brown? What?
Anyway, I think she will be completely BA as Waller. Now I’m super excited. We have Johns writing Legends, Welling directing Legends, and Pam Grier guest starring in Legends. My excitement has been upped to a new high.
CRAZY. I love that chick. Glad she is coming to SV
Fox Brown is in Smallville!!! I am so excited to hear this news. Smallville casting has always been spot on at bringing in actors that work for the character. Pam Grier has had a career spanning four decades. She made her fame in blaxploitation films like Foxy Brown and Coffy but the movie that made this once B-actor shine on an A-list is Jackie Brown written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. This is the film she was nominated for a Golden Globe an in my opinion should have won. She is very versatile and I can’t wait to see what she brings to the table.
Smallville has gone crazy this season with bringing in the DCU folks. Waller is going to be an awesome addition to the growing universe. Plus… It’s Pam fricken Grier!
I haven’t seen Jackie Brown! But it’s on my Netflix queue, and I plan on getting it really soon to watch it, and now I have even more of an incentive to get it!
OMG! Jackie Brown coming to Smallville! I wasn’t expecting to find out such awesome news in my work lunch break. And Amanda Waller… cool! Wow! This is great news, and so unexpected!
AWESOME CASTING!!!
Mr Spencer, or Prof. Bailey I have a question, wasn’t Amanda Waller an ally to The Justice League in Justice League Unlimited? By the way Pam Grier, the last person I would expect that would want to do Smallville. This woman is a legend for crying out loud. Cool, that she would it, but I’m just stunned.
Awesome Casting news! Love Pam Grier!
One question, is it just me or is the two-parter getting better and better with every new thing we learn about it? Is it January yet?
Amanda Waller was only an ally to the Justice League in the episode “Epilogue” of the second (fourth) season of JLU. She was also an “ally” in Superman/Batman: Public Enemies (the movie), but in the comics she is still a “villain”.
Amanda Waller is morally gray. She always has her own agenda and if working with heroes gets the agenda done then that’s what she will do. She is not someone to be messed with or trusted.
In the DCU, when humans (non super powered folk) need something shady done… Amanda Waller is usually the one who is called.
I’m very excited to see Pam Grier take on this shadowy character…
Yeah, I got the sense from Justice League Unlimited that Amanda Waller didn’t really like The Justice League and we see in the episode “Epilogue” where they explain who Terry McGinnis true father is, you see she is a bit of a shady character like Lionel or Tess of that series. Am I incorrect in my thinking?
Amanda Waller has been in the comics since the 80s. She was in charge of the suicide squad which was made up of some former villans to work off thier debt to society. This is also where the character Oracle got her main kickoff. Amanda isn’t a villian, she’s a government official.
