Here it is, next week’s promo for 9×07 “Kandor”. Wow….. If this doesn’t look epic, I don’t know what does.

how come Clark is so desperate to find Jor-el but not his cousin when Kara dissapeared hmm bad writeing i guess. looks ok still don”t get how Jor-el went from dark hair to blond though.
“Oh My Lanta…” I freaked when I saw The kryptonian meeting room with the spinning rings and the members of the counsel. I love episodes about Kal-El and his family. To Shane’s comment. Like I have said about Tess and even Cassidy said on the “Identity” commentary on the eighth season. She has really become the new Lionel. I guess she really has, this was her last step.
Bad writing? He had um…lets see, only beating lex to finding out his secret, being doomed with a falling fortress, um what else….lets see — oh hows clark gonna get into the phantom zone (before episode 20 – Beast, actually before he rebuilt the Fortress in 8 – Bloodline. And the hair is white – called older age – just wanted to clarify Rich’s comment it was very open to being answered …. “Kandor” ……. Wow! So excited for next week its crazy, this is going to be an epic episode.
Wow! To say that I’m thoroughly excited about Kandor next week would be an understatement. That first scene in the trailer made my jaw drop. Most epic trailer EVER!!!
I can’t take the negativity when it comes to this one, the episode I’m looking forward to most so far this season.
Rich, bad writing? Have to disagree. The Kara storyline has run its course, they wrote her out, and there’s no reason for Clark to be looking for her at this juncture. She fulfilled what she was supposed to do in season seven, the writer’s strike threw a wrench in her ending, they rectified it in season eight, and she’s gone. Vandervoort has moved on to another show now, and while Kara was a great character and make for some awesome television in 2007, they didn’t really ever intend for her to be more than that. Todd, Darren, Kelly, and Brian didn’t have intention to keep the character for season eight after Al and Miles left. Why on Earth would Clark NOT be looking for Jor-El once he finds out of his arrival? Kara left, they had their closure, she’s gone now. Jor-El, his FATHER, who for all Clark knows has been dead all these years, showed up on Earth and Zod is trying to find him….yeah, I think Clark is totally justified in the search for his father. Not his cousin, who left…flew off…something Clark isn’t ready to do yet. Bad writing, doesn’t really fit in this category. I’m fine with everyone having their own opinion, it’s what makes the world go-round, and I mean this is the nicest way possible, but almost every comment on this site having some negativity with the lack of Kara, is getting a tad old. Find something you like on the show to talk about here or please just keep the negativity to yourself, saves room for people who actually want to discuss what they enjoy. If Vandervoort returns for an episode, or even a 3-arc (doubtful) feel free to flood the comments but until there’s even the slightest mention of Kara on the show again…I really see no reason to keep bringing her up. No more than Whitney, Pete, or Jason Teague.
This season has had one of the best starts to any season of smallville, six episodes in and everyone has been amazing. The whole crew has done a great job creating one of my favorite shows of all time.
Derek i respect you love your show however i have to dissagree with ya about Kara she is a great charater and if i remember AL and Miles said or something i read i wish i could remember and show it to you however i remember reading that they planned to have Kara till the end of the show. however when Brian Kelly and the other two guys came on Swimmer and Slavin dissliked Kara for some reason. there excuse was we can”t think of storys for her yet they thought of the stupid Lana arc. the only reason iam still watching sv is for the end of Clarks journey Clois Lois and Tess. iam likeing season 9 better then season 8 though. i will refrain from venting my Kara dissapointment if you would like me to. just for the record yes Laura has moved on however she would return to sv in a heartbeat she wants to shes just waiting for them to call her. Derek how do we even know this Jor-el is really Clarks father what has me confussed is the blond hair Jor-el if hes young should have dark like Clark not blond. we better get a Kara mention in Kandor least Kelly has said she would love to bring Laura back.
First, let me just say that I have been LOVING Season 9. Every episode has had some epic moments. I have found something to love in every episode this season. I thought “Crossfire” was fantasic and the ending of that episode in the Daily PLanet with Clark and Lois almost made me cry. It was so epic and beautiful and it showed true respect for what so many of us feel about the love story between Clark Kent and Lois Lane. NExt week, I expect to see that same respect given to Jor-El. He is Clark’s FATHER. Of COURSE, he would be looking for him. How would you feel if you all of a sudden learned that your birth father….the man who saved your life as a baby….might be alive and well and walking around? Wouldn’t you try to find him? Wouldn’t you feel desperation to meet him and see him? This episode looks EPIC and I can’t wait to see it. I have been very happy with the direction of smallville Season 9. As for KAra, I loved her but I agree with Derek. Her story was great. She had a beautiful ending last year in “Bloodline” and for now her story is done. I imagine that she’ll be in Clark’s future. But for now, this is about Clark’s journey and I’m fine with Kara being gone for now.
smallville is not about Clark Kent much anymore it is a DC cameo show now ik you don”t agree which is fine. Kelly Brian Swimmer and Slavin missed a great oppertunity with the Kara charater and in my opion she should still be on sv not Green Arrow again ik you will dissagree. sv only respects the charaters they like. Kara is an iconic charater they did not respect her now did they. we had more Green Arrow episodes this season then about Clark. i liked Crossfire though that was good. iam glad Clark is starteing to realize his love for Lois. i was hopeing after Swimmer and Slavin left they would have Laura come back but they waited to long which sucks oh well. i hope sv can make it to s10 then if V dose not work out they could bring LV back sinse Allison Mack is done after s9.
Rich, who is your favorite character to ever come to Smallville? Wait, wait…don’t tell me…I bet it’s the kid with gills behind his ears that got killed off in that one episode in season three.
Here’s the thing, At this point, it doesn’t matter what Al and Miles said or had planned for the character of Kara. They don’t run the show anymore. As far as the current showrunners NOT knowing what to do with the character, what’s wrong with that? You make some points about too much Oliver, but if Oliver’s screen time was gone and replaced by Kara having just as much screen time, you wouldn’t have a problem with that?
Doesn’t having Kara around make Smallville that much more of a DC cameo show?
And to that point, if Run hadn’t gone over well with fans way back in Season four, they would have never done Aqua in Season 5. If Aqua hadn’t gone over well, they would have never done Cyborg. If Cyborg hadn’t gone over well…well…you see my point. Ultimately, if the DC appearances work. (they aren’t cameos. Cameos would denote that the characters appear for like 2 minutes in an episode.) Had none of the appearances worked, you wouldn’t have gotten Kara in Smallville. Something to think about.
Further, you called the exclusion of Kara in Kandor “bad writing.” I don’t think that’s the case. Kara told Clark she had heard rumors that Kandor survived while she was in the Phantom Zone. She left to go look for Kandor. She could very well be off world. Also, the first thing Clark is gonna do if he finds out that Jor-El could be on Earth is NOT go looking for Kara. He let her go find her own path, and he’s ok with that. Even if you’re not. So, the creative team of Smallville took what has come before and use it to drive the decisions and plot points in present continuity. In fact, they are attempting to do that more this season than many prior seasons.
You miss Kara? That’s fine. I liked the character. It could have been interesting to see how things would have played out last season and this had she still been around. However, if you look at the trailer for “Kandor” and all you can think is “no Kara in this episode…bad writing.” Then dude, I declare you “Guilteh….guilteh…guilteh.”
Finally, on the topic of bad writing, sentences start with a capital…or big…letter. (Yes, that was an overly rude personal dig.)
i guess your right Steve and Derek iam sorry i guess i just feel that Kara is important in Clarks groth thats all. maybe you guys can answer something for me why dose Jor-el have blond hair.
I think this episode looks amazing. But honestly, I have enjoyed every episode this season. I am incredibly impressed with the direction that this show has taken. Right now I feel something towards Kelly and Brian (and Tom Welling) that I haven’t felt with this show in a long time: trust. I trust them. I really believe that they are going to end this series in a way that is powerful and respectful to the legend of Superman. This season has been handled beautifully. It hasn’t been perfect. But few things in this world are so I choose to not focus on the negatives and enjoy all the good we’ve gotten. I thought “Crossfire” ‘was a fantastic, fun episode. It had everything going for it. The kiss at the end between Clark and Lois was truly epic. I mean, what a beautiful scene. Holy crap. Now, THAT’S how to tell an epic and legendary love story. There’s a reason why the love story between Clark Kent and Lois Lane is so famous and why so many of us love it so much. Because those characters were written to be each other’s soul mates. They are the yin to each other’s yang. These two characters aren’t just together because they “have to be” or because the show “has to follow the mythos at the expense of canon.” They are together because those two characters belong together in EVERY medium and Smallville is no exception. She makes him stand up and act like a man and he helps her let down her walls and become more vulernable. Smallville didn’t let me down last night. They delivered and showed us how special that relationship is and will be for the future.
I expect I will be just as blown away next week when we see Jor-El and explore Clark’s alien heritage. I am really intrigued by WHY Jor-El is on Earth. Is he another clone? Is he time traveling? Has Clark even been conceived yet in his time period? It’s going to be really interesting. I’m also interested in seeing what his relationship was with Zod. I continue to have high hopes for the rest of Season 9. So far, I have not been dissapointed.
Thanks for the awesome podcasts and for providing another great place to share in conversation about the show!
I think we have to see how Julian Sands plays the character, I’m sure it will be great and no we don’t need a dual Tom Welling role, as good as it is, I like seeing new incarnations of the character, zod rather than the lex/zod, jor-el rather than the lionel/el itll be good to see the “real” jor-el be around, and have Tom interact with him.
Why does Jor-El have white hair? Um… cause Marlon Brando had white hair in the movie. The answer is that simple. As for why the character may have white hair when we have been shown a dark haired Jor-El in the past… does it really matter? He’s older and has had some life experiences that could have caused great stress. It doesn’t bother me.
Why doesn’t he look like Tom? Come on… I bet you when they had Tom play Jor-El in that episode they never imagined that they would be bringing the character onto the show at this age. Things change. It is the way of things.
And on Kara not being on the show… she wasn’t all that great when she was on the show anyway. I didn’t find her or the stories she was in all that interesting. Plus, she is not integral to Clark’s growth. When Clark meets her in the comics he is a grown man who has been Earth’s greatest hero for a decade at least. In every incarnation of the character she has been on her own with only a little guidance from Superman at all. The current Supergirl in the comics sees Batman as more of a teacher than Superman.
Kara left Earth to search out more Kryptonians. Clark has no way of finding her even if he wanted.
I also enjoy the characters from the DCU coming around the show. Metropolis is the center of the DCU and it makes sense that a lot of the heroes would slip through here and there.
I think we should focus on what the show has instead of complaining about what it doesn’t.
I could easily go on a rant about how I think Oliver Queen should be Bruce Wayne but the only thing that would do is waste my time. It would never make the people who make the show change things.
All I can really say is OMG!!! They had me at the spinning rings. I love this season, I love Clark, Lois, Chlois, Watchtower, Major Zod, Tess (*shiver*).
pure genius…pure fandom…and yes, I follow the comics and I know what I’m talking about.
All I have to say is for a TV show about a budding Superman, really, it’s nearly perfect!
Jaime, just so you are aware, when you are talking about the relationship between Clark Kent and Lois Lane, it’s CLOIS not what you wrote. What you wrote is actually a reference to a rather insane fan theory against Lois and against Erica Durance that I know Steve and Derek don’t support. It was probably a typo on your part. But just be aware of it.
But yes, I agree with you that this season has been FANTASTIC and yes it is pure genuis.
This episode is going to be great!! But somebody tell Clark…that he has to stop choking people…lol.
how come Clark is so desperate to find Jor-el but not his cousin when Kara dissapeared hmm bad writeing i guess. looks ok still don”t get how Jor-el went from dark hair to blond though.

this ep looks like it will be major competition for my fav of the season!

thats kind of what i’ve been saying in that the negativity is getting reallly annoying, sorry i didnt go about as nice as derek did

steve and his zzzZZZzzzingers!! wait….Steve, and his zingers! :)
hes got blond hair cause hes aged!!!!!
I think that Julian Sands was a great choice for a middle-aged Jor-El!
Are we really going to argue whether or not Jor-El would be using a Kryptonian version of “Just for Men” to keep himself sporting the dark hair?
i said all this in my comment above…ugh people dont listen :P
