I listened to The Kevin J. Anderson Interview on my Microsoft Zune today and he really seems to be a guy who needs to write for Smallville just because he understands the logic of writing Clark Kent stories and Superman stories. He understand what Steve and Derek have spoken about forever on SHoE about writing for Smallville, the fact that if you are going to bring in a DC Comics/Superman villain or set up a story-line where this character is going to interact with Kal-El in one episode or a season long arc like they did with Davis/Doomsday in Season Eight or Lex Luthor in Seasons One through Seven; they need to set up this characters backstory in a believable way and I believe Kevin J. Anderson gets that. I'm sorry to say, after hearing this episode, I do think Season Nine will be it... But I would like to see that Metropolis TV Movie though in Christmas 2010.
