“Requiem” Airs Tonight
An explosion at LuthorCorp kills all the Board members and injures Oliver, who was there to announce the merger of his company with LutherCorp. Oliver believes that Lex is responsible for the blast, but Clark and Lana learn that the bomber is Winslow Schott, a toymaker and former Queen Industries employee with a grudge against Oliver.

Personally I LOVED the episode, and I’m super-surprised with how much hate its getting. It seems only me and one of my friends liked it and EVERYONE else hated it. Kryptonsite is in a collective agreement that its the worst episode ‘ever’, with 150 people (and counting) having given it a score of 1/10 and pretty much everyone on that site saying they won’t continue watching the show anymore and all this bullcrap.

I really don’t care what anyone else thinks, I LOVED this episode and its easily one of my favorites. I’m hoping Derek and Steve end up agreeing when they make the podcast, cause I’ll be happier when I know that its not just me and my friend that loved the episode. I actually signed up on Kryptonsite boards tonight to say how much I loved it, and I got bashed left, right, center, upwards, downwards, from behind, and any other way you can be bashed. Now I know why I stayed away from those forums (and forums in general) for as long as I did.

It’s not just you, Slushie Man. KryptonSite has become a haven for naysayers and Smallville bashing of late. I won’t even post over there anymore out of protest. The problem with people is that, since Smallville is a prequel, they want it to progress the way *they* think it ought to progress and tell the story the way *they* think it needs to be told considering what’s coming in the future. If this weren’t a show headed for a familiar future, I don’t think peoples’ problems with the series would be so numerous. I’m personally sick of the constant pessimism about how Smallville has jumped the shark and how much Lana sucks, etc. I trust the creative team at this point and I am ADORING Season 8. Even if I’m in the minority based on the K-Site polls.
Let’s keep in mind folks that K-Site should not be judged by users on their forums. They still have a great community there, just as we do on our forums. It’s wrong to judge a site by a few bad apples. That being said, head on over to http://forums.smallvillepodcast.com :p
I also thought the episode was awesome. People I think have a problem with Lana and now she’s gone I’m sure the next episode will be great in everybody’s mind. I like Lana and why not give her a great storyline for maybe the last time we see her and a solid reason why they can’t be together. I can’t wait for the next podcast later this week.

As I’ve mentioned recently, i’m starting to appreciate the character of Lana a bit more these days, and while I thought the whole “flying” k-absorption thing was a little over the top, i thought the final barn scene, and Clark’s painful walk-up and kiss, was pretty powerful.
That said, I have a *major* problem with the Oliver storyline, and Chloe being essentially an accomplice to Lex’s murder. That rang false in so many ways. Maybe it’s that i don’t like the direction they’ve taken Oliver in (he’s lost any moral high ground over the person he’s been fighting, essentially).
As for the complaints about naysayers: not to poke the beehive, but it sounds like a lot of these complaints are that people are getting too bent out of shape over a storyline not going the way they like–yet those complaining are getting upset because it’s going the way *they* like but not everyone’s on board. Doesn’t that seem a little…hypocritical?
We all agree, there’s no room for rudeness or insults in the online SV community. But just as some of us are calling for the naysayers to quit hatin’ and just accept the show, there should be some grace shown by those who are getting the show they want at this point. The show won’t please everyone all the time, but can we at least acknowledge that the naysayers are saying nay because they want the show to be better (by their standards)?
I don’t know. This is the internet; stupid arguments are the nature of things here. I just think there should be room enough for those who love everything that’s gone on this season as well as for those who say, “still a fan, but i’m not down with the choices here.” Because if these forums and blogs simply become monolithic fan-worship sites, where fair criticism of a commonly-loved show is disallowed, then I’m out.
