As far as the diamond bracelet, I wouldn't let that one bother you so much. Just think about Oliver's mindset as opposed to the average person's. If we take someone out on a date - the first date we've had with them in years, no less - we'd likely give them flowers. To Oliver, a diamond bracelet is the equivalent.
